Youtube, makeup, and groin chafing--you be the judge.

So: One of the things I like Youtube for is instructional videos. (Geek!) Bellydance, exercise, swimming . . . and makeup.

There's one lady whose makeup tutorials I like, Marlene the Makeup Geek. She has a blog, too, with various articles, including one on face primers.

So: One of the primers recommend is Monistat Soothing Care Chafing Relief Powder Gel. (and boy, isn't that a mouthful). Turns out this stuff is similar to a very popular and expensive makeup primer (Smashbox) for 1/5th the price. Plus, it seems like it does a good job at its original purpose. I sometimes get bad skin irritations in creases and folds. Emu oil works, but . . .

If you read the reviews, all these guys are raving about this product. "Should repackage and put in the shaving aisle, because not many guys will shop in the feminine hygiene section." LOL!

I've never heard of a make-up primer before (am I a manly girl?) but I am very interested in its anti-chafing purpose.

I'll have to have a look for it - I just use Baby Powder and it really doesn't do a great job. In the summer I have horrible raw red marks under my breasts for months.

Oh - if we do Secret Santa this year, remember this thread ;)

Sounds like a minor fungal thing. I sometimes get that under my pits if I don't use deodorant. diaper cream (zinc oxide ointment) works and so does
clotrimazole powder or cream. You just gotta give the good bacteria a leg up and keep charlie down.

Without wanting to react too strongly because of the ICK factor, I honestly don't think it's fungal. The undersides of my breasts sweat, and no bra in the world would be strong enough to hoist them completely off my body - there will always be some part overlapping. So the sweaty skin stays sweaty, and in addition is rubbed by my bra. Sweaty skin being rubbed is going to create rawness.

no, not really. and powder's not really a good idea on raw patches -there's nothing healing in it ans lots of irritants. try it. it works. then when it's healed, maybe go back to the powder if it helps prevent the chafing.

although I have to say, I find my eczema cream (betnovate equiv) works even better than the sudocrem

When the kids were babbies we were introduced to Sudocrem. We used to call it the magic cream. It's that good.

When I say raw, I don't mean... open. It's not broken skin, just rough, been loved in a tough way skin.

But I accept this is probably the case in nappy rash, so I will bow to the voice of experience and give it a try.
