True Blood

Anybody see this on HBO? It's based on one of my favorite series, the Southern Vampire stories by Charlaine Harris.

So far, it's sticking pretty close to the books. Dunno about the casting of Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, though. She's a good actress, but doesn't quite match my physical impression of Sookie. She's not . . . stacked enough, for one thing :) (and she looks awful as a blonde)

We'll see!

I enjoyed it. It didn't really grab me, though. I have some trust for Alan Ball, so I remain optimistic.

I'm hoping for the best.

The books are better.

I heard Alan Ball on NPR today. Sounded interesting.

the spot on NPR makes it sound like it's his idea to feature anti-discrimination against vampires. It isn't. At least in this instance, it's Ms. Harris's. Not really a new idea either way.

In that regard, Stan Lee famously used "mutants" as an excellent anti-discrimination parable.

indeed.

I liked the 1st episode but I don't have HBO so I'll have to wait for the next free weekend to see it again.

okay, now it's pissing me off. The stuff with Sookie (the main character) is good, but they've gone way off base with the other characters' story lines.

I'm gonna have to pull out my books to wash the taste out of my mouth. Er . . .mind.
