I am Not a Nerd

Trilby • Sep 9, 2008 8:30 am
I finished reading The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao and I, Brianna Hannah Montana Rosanna Danna, who once suspected myself of some slight leanings towards nerdiness, am now certain that I am not, and never have been, a nerd of any stripe, polka-dot, or classic Burberry. Hear that, SteveDallas? I am NOT one of you!

So. How did all you nerds rope me in for so long? It's been---years!

I'm going to go to Uni now and smoke with the cool kids. Man, you people are nerds. Esp. you girls.
Juniper • Sep 9, 2008 9:23 am
Cool kids don't smoke. That's SO 90's. :D
Sundae • Sep 9, 2008 9:27 am
You are a nerd Bri.
This is a phase.

I think you need to step slowly away from that book and let someone with your best interests at heart take it away and burn it.
footfootfoot • Sep 9, 2008 9:36 am
You may not be a nerd, but you are certainly a nurd.
monster • Sep 9, 2008 9:55 am
you're a nerd groupie, that's whut :p
Undertoad • Sep 9, 2008 10:24 am
What happens when the cool kids hurt you again? You'll be right back here.
glatt • Sep 9, 2008 10:30 am
And we'll still accept her with open arms.

Go on Bri, spread your wings. We'll leave a light on.

And if you're gonna fly, wear a skirt.

Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

(If you know where that quote came from... wellll....

"Rope you in"? I thought that was Ducks. But hey, if you have any bondage pix lying about, head on over to the NSFW thread.

Only nerds like Star Wars???

Hmmm....

No, but "like Star Wars" and "can immediately dredge up a quote from a movie released 28 years ago" are not the same thing.
Pico and ME • Sep 9, 2008 11:46 am
Well, I knew immediately where that quote came from...but it is probably the more dramatic of that movies scenes, so remembering it isnt that unusual.
Pico and ME • Sep 9, 2008 11:47 am
Not that Im not a nerd or anything.
lookout123 • Sep 9, 2008 12:46 pm
No. It's not true. That's impossible.

Only a nerd would answer another nerd question like that. (and, BTW, yes, only nerds like Star Wars)

I'm putting black eyeliner on and I'm going OUT!

UT, my new cool friends will never leave me, NEVER! They said as long as I can pitch in for gas money and kiss this one guy...

Clodfobble • Sep 9, 2008 1:58 pm
You wanna know something?

I most certainly am a nerd... and I think Star Wars is retarded. All of them.
Trilby • Sep 9, 2008 2:00 pm

Actually, if you're referring to a singular item, namely, a particular movie, then the fact that this movie happens to have a plural noun in the title doesn't mean you suddenly have more than one movie.

So it would still be "is."
lumberjim • Sep 9, 2008 3:11 pm
in your face, grammar nazi!

Clodfobble is the cool person (ignoring her star wars ignorance) who pointed the cellar to these comics in some other thread.

See? This sort of nerd-fuggery is why you're continually signaled out, SteveDallas. You just can't help yourself.

Grammar corrections are NEVER a laughing matter in Brianna's threads.

Anyways I thought that might be what you were going for so I thought I'd one-up your grammar nerdiness by adding extra cluelessness and pedanticism

Not a nerd, not a nerd-lover, not a nerd-groupie? ... right until the next time your computer needs fixing or upgrading, then you'll come crawling back!
Aliantha • Sep 9, 2008 8:53 pm
So what constitutes a nerd, and then what constitutes the opposite?

Can't you be a bit of both depending on the circumstances?

My son Aden has the reputation of being a 'cool nerd' at school because he's good looking, is the most popular boy (apparently) but also gets straight A's. He thinks it's pretty cool to be known as a cool nerd. Looks and brains and sensitive. That boy is blessed. (I hope they get that male contraceptive pill sorted out soon)

DucksNuts • Sep 10, 2008 7:09 am
Seriously, no one likes Star Trek do they? thats just an urban myth.

Star Wars... good stuff. Battlestar Galatica...fucking awesome.
Trilby • Sep 10, 2008 9:34 am
I do not get the sci-fi worship thing.

I thought the Life of Brian was awesome. I thought Rocky Horror was awesome....there are those who would argue that RH was kinda sci-fi, but that's only if you can overlook Tim Curry and nobody can do that.

The whole point of this thread was that I never had to look up so many references in my life. (I mean, what the hell is "Zardoz" about?) YOU GUYS (smirk) would LOVE it. (the book---oscar wao)

I am a nerd. I'm just a specific genre of nerd.

I couldn't live without my computer and wifi. In fact, I bought a miniature one so I could take it with me everywhere I go (the Eee PC, I wuv it so much).

I am fond of nerdy comics like http://xkcd.com/

But

I do not like Star Wars. It makes me sleepy.

I do however enjoy Star TREK.

I like poli-sci. Don't like sci-fi/fantasy, but do like spec fiction.

Not all nerds are cast from the same mold! :D
