August 12, 2008: Contacts

Contacts... contact lenses... Japanese Anime Contact Lenses.

Anyone who's seen Japanese comics, cartoon videos or anime art is instantly struck by the common look of the girls - big eyes that, by making the rest of the face look small, add the cuteness and sex appeal prized by many Japanese men. Since no amount of cosmetic surgery will make actual human eyes larger, some girls are trying another way to up their cute quotient: extra-wide contact lenses!

Kind of gives her that "PokeMeMan" look. :D

I think its creepy, and shopped.

AAAHHHHH!!! KILL IT!!!

Either shopped, or they've used a model with extraordinarily big eyes anyway.
Further down the linked page is a picture of the lenses in a caucasian eye and they have nothing like the same effect.

On the website selling them, the three girls wearing them all have remarkable shaped eyes. It's a cynical marketing ploy to make the average Japanese girl think that it will somehow alter the shape of her eye. Same as women's razors always show incredibly long, smooth, tanned legs to make you think 5 minutes in the bath could have the same effect on you...

Now, that's the way to do it!

what happened to the good old days of using belladonna in the eyes?
Elspode • Aug 12, 2008 1:56 pm
From the country that brought you foot binding...
Sundae • Aug 12, 2008 2:00 pm
China?
Clodfobble • Aug 12, 2008 2:01 pm
No no, China practiced footbinding, Japan has the creepy eye fetish. You would be wise not to confuse either one for the other in their presence. :)

Whoops.

Its probably the itching keeping you from getting them straight Els.

My eyes are the perfect size, shape, and color I'll keep them the way they are, crazy-fanatics-who-are-always-trying-to-get-us-to-adapt-to-crazy-fanatic-standards, thank you very much.

I was thinking more along the lines of the NSFW WTF thread video of the two women, the funnel, and the fish. (If you haven't seen this and you go looking for it, don't blame me. I warned you.)

LINK!!!!! I can't find the video anywhere (after a quick search). I'll admit that the words "women" "funnel" & "fish" have me hook, line, and sinker. (so to speak):3eye:

Is that first pic real, she does not look like a real person. How small is her mouth and chin? She looks like an 8 year old.
SteveDallas • Aug 16, 2008 12:20 pm
You've got a point.... it looks like a self-portrait flash shot with the camera held at arms length... or is inteded to look like such. The chin especially seems abnormally pointy. Though the effect could be enhanced by having her pull her chin in to her chest so it's farther from the camera than forehead & eyes, depending on what kind of lens it is.
