The real man's Bloody Mary
The real man's Bloody Mary:
Ingredients: vodka, tomato juice, Tobasco, Worcestershire
sauce, A-1 steak sauce, ice, salt, pepper, celery.
Fill a large tumbler with vodka.
Throw all the other ingredients away.
I'll have to remember that next time I'm working Sunday lunch in the pub!
It's a fairly common hangover drink here. Either that or Guinness - the age-old advertising slogan Guinness is Good for You definitely had legs.
I'm doing the evening shift today (Board Meeting at my other job at 14.00) and am off to my parents next week. Still, at least it means I miss the uber-tempting complimentary cheese and biscuits. And the free Sunday Roast at the end of the shift. Except we have a buffet lunch for the Board of course...
Stop trying to feed me! Everyone's an enabler, sheesh.
a girl's gotta eat mate. ;)
I bartended for a few years when computer consulting gigs were in short supply. I make a really good bloody Mary with the ingredients included. :)
I guess by your definition, it's not too manly, but it's a lot more tasty.
I thought a Bloody Mary was just another vehicle, like cocktail sauce, for good horseradish.

Celery
Collins glass filled halfway with ice, pour Vodka, add all ingredients with Clamato last. Fill the glass with a half inch of space at the top and stir it up. Add olives & celery. Wipe the rim of the glass with a lime wedge and put on the rim of the glass.
I have never heard of horseradish in a Bloody Mary!
I'll have to ask Grandad if it's an American thing. He was a cocktail waiter during and after the war, and towards the end of the war he mostly served Americans because they were the ones with the money for cocktails!
"real men drink vodka neat." = complete macho bullshit.
Real men, don't drink vodka.:p

I know it sounds strange, but just a tiny bit of it is incredibly good. I had never heard of using Clamato until a few years ago. Then I tried it and found out it's fantastic. It originally started at the Bull & Finch Pub in Boston
(aka The real "Cheers" bar). They won contests year after year for making the best Bloody Mary then someone finally revealed that they added clam juice.
If I'm ever doing a morning party or something, I mix up a couple of gallons of Bloody Mary mix from scratch. Then all I've got to do is add Vodka.
I loves me a good spicy bloody mary.
And then of course there is this!:

I never forgave my late friend for giving me a glass of Clamato straight.
Blegh!
I prefer to not chew my drinks, and I don't think drinks should come in courses. ;) Grendel's "throw the rest away" advice sounds about right.
A Bloody Mary is breakfast. It is a meal replacement. This is why you add celery and olives. :)
Some people use V8 rather than clamato or regular tomato juice.
To me a Bloody Mary is something you drink in the morning on a cruise ship, or in a bingo parlor in a casino in the morning, or at brunch. It's sort of a non-guilty morning drink like a mimosa. It's a drink and a meal so you don't feel like you're drinking hard first thing in the morning. It's also sort of like a hair of the dog to take the edge off after a night when you've been drinking a lot.
The morning drinker's discreet morning drink, aye.

I was wondering how long it would take for this to come up ...
Now lets just put it back to bed again and let it sleep, shall we?
...Unless we decide to turn this into a "vampire's teabag" thread.
I'm sipping on a Bloody Mary right now. I use the Tabasco extra Spicy mix with horseradish. It tastes a lot like cocktail sauce.
I hate bloody marys, but the girly loves them, when made right. No A1 sauce, that's just disgusting. Yes on the horse radish. No on Clamato (That's technically a Bloody Ceasar, I think), use V8 or tomato juice.
I'd rather drink straight vodka. Or better yet, give me rum and coke. Or a mojito (made proper). Or a screwdriver. Or damn near anything other than a bloody mary.
