xoxoxoBruce • Jul 24, 2008 1:56 am
From Boston.com, this heat beating tip from Korea.

People swim to avoid the heat in a swimming pool in the Everland amusement park in Yongin, about 50 km (31 miles) south of Seoul

The fecal coliform pool replaces the fecal coliform ball pit at McDonalds

"The presence of fecal coliform bacteria in aquatic environments may indicate that the water has been contaminated with the fecal material of man or other animals." (Wiki)

"Does the water really turn purple, if you pee?":D

I remember a pic of a pool in Tokyo...
It is actually a wave pool:

Man... Bring on the polio.
Clodfobble • Jul 24, 2008 8:03 am
Man, with that many people, I'd require lifevests on everyone too. But I don't get the hats...
Chocolatl • Jul 24, 2008 8:11 am
Maybe the hats are to prevent other people's flailing arms from grabbing fistfuls of hair?

There's never a Snickers bar around when you really, really need one.

Does that one guy in the bottom of the first picture have a mouthful of water?

Or maybe he's about to :repuke:.
classicman • Jul 24, 2008 8:56 am
That does NOT look like fun.
Sheldonrs • Jul 24, 2008 9:12 am
Bring to a boil and add vegetables. Reduce heat and let simmer for 20 minutes. Season to taste.
ZenGum • Jul 24, 2008 9:47 am
That's not a water park! That's a street in Seoul, suddenly flooded by rising sea levels! Quick, everyone, PANIC! The end is NIGH!

[Doffs cap to Sheldon. Wonders why it took someone so long.]

It's probably just a wad of dip.

A dip wad?
glatt • Jul 24, 2008 10:25 am
That first picture is cropped to show only the people in the wave pool in that narrow band of space where they are able to touch the bottom but still experience the wave's full force. I bet it's much less crowded off to the right where it gets deeper and a little less crowded off to the left, where it gets shallower. But I bet lots of kids are off to the left playing in the shallow end.

bbro • Jul 24, 2008 12:25 pm
That just makes me shudder. I HATE crowds. especially where strangers are touching me. I am tensing up just thinking about it! :headshake I would rather sweat.

It's common for swimming pools in the Orient to require swimming caps. The reason is that they want to keep filters from getting clogged with hair.
Sure, a couple of hairs here and there won't damage the pump/filtration system, but when you're dealing with billions of people, those hairs can add up quickly!

It's dress down Friday - usually they come in suits and ties.

Off-topic question:
Who selects the image o' day and how does one go about nominating one? I'm usually content to see what image The Man comes up with, but this terrorist wedding cake caught my eye:

Any member can post an IOtD.
1- Follow the format for the date and title.
2- Don't use a copyrighted image from a major news group.
3- Post, rather than link, the image.
4- Have fun.
Clodfobble • Jul 25, 2008 8:58 am
Also, I'm pretty sure you'll need to look at it in Forum View instead of blog view, if you haven't already been doing that. (And hey, while you're already in handy Forum-view mode, you could branch out into the rest of the board, too.)

Not a problem. I got soup for years now! And if I add a coagulent...er I mean a THICKENER, I can make stew!
