June 28, 2008: Divers

I alway picture Olympic class swimmers, as slim, with big shoulders. Streamlined, for speed through the water, and big shoulders from miles, and more miles, of powerful strokes.

Evidently divers don't fit that mold, as these two competitors at the U.S Olympic diving trials in Indianapolis, look more like body builders. :eek:

Last time I dove I landed with one shoulder on the side of the pool. I don't dive anymore. :headshake

Do you think the guys wear some sort of protective apparatus in case they hit the water wrong? I think that would hurt much more than a belly-flop.

It makes sense that they would have different body compositions than swimmers. I think they use their muscles differently than the swimmers. They need muscle strength to launch themselves into the gravity well (;)) whereas swimmers don't fight gravity. And they need flexibility and strength to contort and throw themselves into the diving positions.

I'm gonna have to pay close attention to their expressions this time when I watch the Olympics. I wonder if they're screwed up (faces) in anticipation of hitting the water, or just intense concentration, or what.

Hmmm. Besides the expression, they both have one hand near an ear. And the other hand is cupped, as if it's suspicially hiding something small...like a Q-tip!!

Spot on, despite our joking around, I have to utmost respect for these athletes, and what they have put themselves through to get to this level. :us:

Those are some insane lats. These swimmers are the people that have to use straps on back day, because the human hand can't hold the amount of weight their lats can pull.

Good photoshop, spudcon. All it needs to be perfect is a burning pillow.

OK, so I did it with paint. Ain't got the big bucks for Adobe. But if I did, I aint got the big brains to figure it all out, either. It's much too huge and complicated.

spudcon, I thought it was great. I wasn't ripping on you.

By the way, you can get GIMP for free. I think it's as good as PhotoShop. There is some learning involved.

Photoshop Elements is available free from a number of sources, and does all the things I need... and more.

Yeah I saw that too, I thought it was supposed to be some kind of birth metaphor. Then I got a brain cramp trying to figure out what the deeper meanings of it all were and whether it had to do with pulling curtains of something or other and extinction and then I just stumbled on out of there.

I was wondering how she got her swim cap caught in a giant clitoris, too.

I wonder why they always pick butterfly photos of swimmers? is it becasue it gives the muscliest bory position?
