Grill Tools

bbro • Jun 3, 2008 11:48 am
Taking my mother's suggestion, I am on the hunt for some grill tools for my dad for father's day.

Since I am a novice at grilling, I need some help. Where to find them, what brand maybe to look for, the absolute essentials that MUST be in a set, and any suggestions of things that aren't in sets but should be.

I am looking for mid-priced stuff. I don't want to be spending hundreds of dollars, but don't want to be scoping out the dollar store either.

Thanks!! :weird:

I've enjoyed these but they were a wedding present; don't know how much $$$.

Matching stained wooden handles and a plastic case that they all go in (keeps them all together, not getting lost). If I had set of steak knives with a matching wood stain on the handles, that would really be something.

What's NOT in the set is a device to lift the grill grates out, a wire brush for cleaning, a whisk broom and something to scoop the ashes out with.

Here you go. He'll need these too... and this.

Brother! the number one by far best grill tool I purchased is this:

http://www.cooking.com/products/shprodde.asp?SKU=184666

and I grill 2 - 5 times per week. I will make a cool and unique tool he will use for a long time. Get the box with the short and long one.

Oh I love the brand!
Strikes me as a bit too... tempting though?
Or is that just my weird mind?

(I've always wanted a brand - just a little one)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Flint - that is the style I was going for. I have kept a brush in mind, but don't need the other stuff because their grill is gas.

Jinx - I looked at all that, but that is just WAY too expensive. Although I do want to get the initials eventually, but maybe as a joint goft (one for mom and one for him) for their anniversary. That way they know whose is whose. :D

Merc - that is a good idea. I was hoping to find something a little different to throw in with the tools themselves.

Just realized I have about a week and a half left. Thought it was shorter than that!

One thing I've seen I want to get is kebab holder cages. I've done kebabs before and I like them, but sticking to the grill & stuff falling off can sometimes be a problem. I've seen them in the grill accessories section at Bed Bath & Beyond.

You can also find those at any large multi-specialty hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. That is where I bought mine.

How do you like them?

At first I was not to keen on them. It just didn't seem pure not having that metal rod stuck through the meat and veggies, but after I used it a few time the food came out so much better cooked. It has always been a challenge to keep tomatos on the rod as they cooked and the other veggies like onions tend to fall apart as they cook. So it really is a great little device.

Merc does the pig tail thing actually work well, without piercing the meat all up?
TheMercenary • Jun 4, 2008 11:41 am
Jinx, I have to tell you that thing rocks.

It is so much better than tongs. You never drop a piece of food. The long one lets you move stuff around without burning your hand trying to turn stuff over on the hot fire. Piercing the meat is a non-issue. Really. It would make a great gift for anyone that likes to cook out.

Oh, I was thinking you'd stick the skewer in anyway, and just use the cage to make it easier to turn & stuff.

I'd have to put the skewer in.
I'm not just gonna throw a basket of chopped up stuff on the grill!

You don't need the skewer. The cage holds everything in place.

Okay, so I didn't go with the most posh tools, but I got the ones he would like the best. Ones made by Craftsman and a Meat Thermometer fork. Sent it today, hopefully will get there soon. At least that is over for now.
