Too much of a good thing

I have to admit the cloned threads are getting annoying. And yes, I know I've made them myself. But every thread doesn't have to be cloned, people! Save it for when the cloned title is worth it.

:2cents:

Oh for god's sake people...lighten up.

btw, every complaint doesn't need a new thread.
HungLikeJesus • May 22, 2008 11:36 am
How long before this thread gets cloned?
SteveDallas • May 22, 2008 11:56 am
I find it moderately amusing that my clone thread set this off, since I myself was kind of annoyed by them at first. I guess the habit grew on me. (Yes, I know at least some of the people who've commented were not aiming specifically at me but at the practice as a whole.) I would summarize my thinking as follows:

Here on The Cellar there are an infinite number of ways for us to annoy each other. If it's not the clone threads, it would be something else. Furthermore, topic drift and threadjacking are usually the order of the day.

I expect Flint to step in and remind us that the traditional clone thread was not intended to receive any replies. But of course here people will comment on anything. Hell, we've commented on obvious spam postings before they can be removed by the moderators. For my money, a large number of these postings are crap, but that number isn't anywhere near 90% (see Sturgeon's Law), so I feel we're ahead of the game.

In any event, I've grown to appreciate the wittiness of many of the clone thread titles, and sometimes one will spawn an interesting or amusing discussion. However, I'd have no problem at all if it were determined by common consensus that clone thread titles ought to just be posted in a single thread.

But I would also suggest that Nothingland is, by its nature, well, nothing. There's only so much we can do by way of organizing or proceduralizing it before it became Somethingland.

Hey, I'm light! I enjoy the cloned threads. I just think there are too many of them. It's a one-point joke that's been hit too many times.

And -- there's a complaint thread?

(grumble) okay, okay, fine. (grumble)

I'll fade away.

Well I've taken a number...
How long do I have to wait?

Bloody hell - I give it five more seconds before I really blow my top...
Shawnee123 • May 22, 2008 12:22 pm
I'd only take a number and get in line for one thing: Sundae Girl! :)

It's that fucking AG invasion I tell ya.

I already had that idea, and already made that thread. Notice how it isn't around anymore?

I didn't say I thought it was a good idea, I said I wouldn't have a problem with it.

When the revolution comes, people like you will be shot first, as an example to the others.
SteveDallas • May 22, 2008 12:56 pm
"Like me" in what way? Overeducated? Pretentious? Pedantic? Smartasses?
Flint • May 22, 2008 12:58 pm
Don't have a problem with things you think aren't a good idea.
glatt • May 22, 2008 1:43 pm
I'm just going to take moment to remind you all of the awesome "Huckabee Quilts!!" clone thread, complete with Photoshop.
Shawnee123 • May 22, 2008 1:51 pm
It rarely gets much better than that one, glatt. It was classic!
HungLikeJesus • May 22, 2008 1:55 pm
I remember there was one other CT that got very high praise, but I can't think what it was. It certainly wasn't one of mine.
Flint • May 22, 2008 2:08 pm
Awesome, glatt. Somehow I missed that one.

So you'll be left with people who can't coexist with things they don't think are good ideas? What the hell kind of revolution are you planning anyway?
Flint • May 22, 2008 2:22 pm
The revolution to end all revolutions. In short, the big one.
glatt • May 22, 2008 3:11 pm
Thanks Flint, S123, and HLJ, it's always nice to get compliments when you are fishing for them.

I just realized that in my clone thread, I failed to follow the tradition of linking to the original thread. I'll have to do better next time.
Cloud • May 22, 2008 3:33 pm
I do enjoy 'em. (sigh). like a fine wine. er, whine (aka whinge).

er . . . light beer.

Holy crap! I had completely not noticed that it was a photoshop job the first time. I assumed it was just another 'look how down-to-earth and involved-with-the-people I am' politician stunt. How sad is that?
glatt • May 22, 2008 5:01 pm
Sad that a politician really would do something like that.

The Onion had a funny fake quote from Edwards: "Because, gosh-darnit, the American people just plain-old deserve better."

I'm glad Flint stayed. It gives me an opportunity to educate him on how particular animals feel and think. I know he pretends to be annoyed, but deep down, he's learning something.

And it gives him more chances to bond with Lumberman.
