Get a Life, People.

When the owners of Quickie Burger and Dogs chose their logo, they thought it would make patrons crave an order of chili cheese fries. But the logo, a busty woman in a tight shirt straddling a hamburger, has drawn criticism from campus groups.
Maria Arman, whose family owns the restaurant, said the logo was meant to invoke a cowboy theme.

"We were thinking beef, rodeo, so instead of putting a cowboy, we just picked a cowgirl," she said. "It's a rodeo-style cowgirl riding a bull, but instead, it's a burger. It was put together to be funny and different. No offense was meant to anyone."
The Stonewall Democrats, a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender caucus of the University's College Democrats chapter, has taken offense with the restaurant's logo and recently began circulating a petition to sway the owners to change the logo.

LSA senior Kolby Roberts, a member of the Stonewall Democrats who has led the effort, said he finds the logo's message inappropriate and offensive.
Roberts said he believed the image was distasteful, regardless of the person.

"Basically, what it has is a provocatively dressed woman straddling a hamburger, and she's very busty and its kind of really horrible," he said.

I'll have to go down there and grab a burger before they're forced to change the logo.

hey, those democrats always have to have something to bitch about. I suppose there arent enough important issues in the world to fight against
DanaC • May 5, 2008 6:25 am
Oh dear God that's just pathetic.

We recently had a little problem in council when a conservative male councillor was discussing what may or may not be appropriate language to use when discussing LBGT people. In the discussion he used the word 'poof'. One of the councillors (a Liberal Democrat) who happens to be a lesbian (and, btw Sundae, yes she does represent Hebden Bridge :P) took him to the standards board. The standards board found no fault to answer and she took it further and we ended up with an appeal that cost the tax-payer £5000.....an appeal that found no fault to answer.

How pathetic is that?

With all the real battles to fight doesn't it just make you sick when people play games like this? What a long and rocky road it's been to get to the stage when it's not acceptable for a boss to slap his secretary's arse and pay her less than an equivalent male colleague, yet we are now going to battle it out over a cowgirl on a burger, in a logo?

Could be worse. She might have been straddling a fish taco. :D

I love how he butchered the English language here but used the work "provocatively". It's probably a word he learned yesterday and is showing it off like 4 year old showing off his new Spiderman pajamas.
Elspode • May 5, 2008 9:24 am
Didn't this same thing happen when the new bra and panties clad Betty Crocker logo was introduced?
TheMercenary • May 5, 2008 11:08 am
I don't know but I loves me some racey ads. Europeans don't have all these puritanical hangups. Damm crazy assed Americans.

Make the woman ride a crucifix and see who'd be bitching then.

Oh for the love of....

I think the problem is the LGBT crew have nothing else to complain about here because the Ann Arbor community is so accepting and accomodating of people with varying gender preferences and persuasions (did that cover everything in a non-offensive way?;))

Equivilant of the Hitler clause.
Only used by Daily Mail readers.

Personally I think it is a dated idea to use a stick thin cartoon woman with big boobies to sell anything, but people should be allowed to vote with their wallets.

And Dana, you are right to criticise someone using tax payers' money to bring that case. I don't like the language used, but all it takes is telling the person that what they have said is offensive from your point of view. If they continue to use those terms there are other methods of recourse. Just send a couple of burly fudge-packers round after dark ;)

I really can't see what is so horrible about a busty chick straddling a burger. I don't know much about the English, but I think I heard about what these guys need: a proper fuck.

Psssst. The burger place is in the US - Dana was referring to another issue.

But you're right in my case. I do need a proper fuck. Sigh.

*grins* my statement to the local paper after I was re-elected was that it showed that the people of the ward wanted labour councillors, but they wanted 'proper labour councillors, with proper labour values' :P

It's all about being proper.

The irony being you don't even pronounce it properly ;)
DanaC • May 6, 2008 5:13 pm
*blinks* and how would you suggest we pronounce it?
Radar • May 6, 2008 6:09 pm
If I had a lot of money and time on my hands, I'd have a cushion that looks like a burger put on top of a mechanical bull, and hire a hot looking chick who looks similar but sluttier than the girl on the logo (except she'd be wearing cutoff shorts), to ride it all day in front of the restaurant to bring in customers. :)

Okay, one of two. The other one is to get their stuff takeout and pointedly consume it around the headquarters of the complainers' group. Signal to them what idiot penes they're being -- including the women.
