Can ya tell wut it iz yut?

Many years ago on a board far, far, away one the posters was a keen photographer and started doing a quiz of everyday objects seen in close up, or from odd angles like BigV has done here.
As he ran out of steam I was inspired to use my powers only for good and do much the same thing with an electron microscope.

Since BigV's thread I have tried to dig out the files to post up here for your amusement, but so far have drawn a blank, which is odd because we never delete anything, but they have cryptic names to reduce cheating.

I just noticed that the original image is sitting here on this computer, so here it is. At this moment in time I don't have the succeedeing pictures getting lower in magniification, showing more of the object so I might give clues with sufficient inducement.:p

A penny. How come you have so many EM pics?

An aspirin tablet.

And what was that other thing you posted a week or two before? It was all fuzzy in the middle.

It's you or DanaC I don't think he was big in OZ.

So, Merc is in the county, Labrat is in the Ball Park, but it's not a penny.

Elspode, our Breadbox is also metal, but it's got nothing to do with this quiz.

Lot of shrinkage in that snowy state?

I'm with LabRat on the coin guess.
TheMercenary • Mar 30, 2008 3:30 pm
A milled piece of jewlery.
Beest • Mar 31, 2008 12:46 am
It's a coin, but can you tell which one, it's going to be a lot easier for US dwellars ;)

What is the picture of specifically
xoxoxoBruce • Mar 31, 2008 1:40 am
The top of Washington's head on a quarter.
LabRat • Mar 31, 2008 11:50 am
Sweet, Beest. I'd love to chat more about microscopy sometime. My specialty is confocal, with just a dash of two-photon for good measure.

BTW, the exact origin of that pic is the top of the eagles head, and bottom of the N in "UNUM" on the back of an old school US quarter. The divot is the eagles eye.

More more!!!

Anyone who doesn't see why I'd be gay for labrat is blind.
:)

The only thing I'm sure of is that it is rusting. However my best guess is that this is an old steam engine used to power lumber milling equipment.

He has a lot of nice pictures of the Portland area, but what in hell is the Ta Wa Tree?
