We're moving

Aliantha • Mar 16, 2008 8:22 pm
It's been coming for a while now, but we've finally decided the time is right for a move.

We're going to get out of the middle of the city and go somewhere a bit more relaxed.

We've been looking around Jacobs Well, which is about half way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Actually, closer to the coast, but that's ok. Better even.

There are a couple of houses I'm going to check out. This one, which is probably the front runner at this stage, and this one although I think the allure is mainly in the hot tub out the back. Anyway, I'm going to go have a look at half a dozen or so properties tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes.

In the mean time, we have to sell our property here which shouldn't be too much trouble at all if we're lucky.

Wow, I love Jacob Wells, Ali.

We used to holiday there every year in my youth....well...until they made our destination a industrial area.

I just remember miles and miles of sugarcane.....ahhh, memories.
DucksNuts • Mar 16, 2008 9:12 pm
Hmmm, the first one is weird isnt it? Looks totally different from the outside to what is inside. I like the bathroom and I like the house, which I didnt think I would from the first pic :p

I have nothing to say about the 2nd one.
Aliantha • Mar 16, 2008 9:14 pm
Yeah it's a nice area, and reasonably priced considering the location. We were surprised, and certainly didn't think we'd be able to afford that area, but I guess it's still largely undiscovered as far as a place to live goes. There's a couple of big marinas going in just north and just south of the township though, so in a few years time it'll probably explode.

The best part is, the local pub has a pick up and drop off service every weekend. What more could you want?

We'll miss you, Ali.

Like an extra hole in the head I'm sure HLJ.

Besides, I'm pretty sure they have internet available there anyway. ;)

We're doing ok Els, but it's mostly because the value of our house has almost doubled in value in less than two years. It was an astute investment, and we're hoping to strike another one in the new place we select. :) With any luck we will. If not, we'll have a nice place to live in either way.

like the hot tub/spa thing.
shina • Mar 17, 2008 12:53 pm
Oh, definitely hot tub! Best place for nakedness and fun with your s.o.
Radar • Mar 17, 2008 3:20 pm
I like the first one better than the 2nd one. You must be doing well for yourself if you can afford those. Good on ya!

An extra hole in the head helps to relieve pressure.

When trying to decide on a place to live, I always ask myself "where am I likely to get laid whenever I want" and then I pick that place. :-)

Congrats on the move. :-)
Trilby • Mar 17, 2008 3:52 pm
Oh, Shel. You could get laid anywhere.

Stop being so coy.

I know, I just want to have to work for it if I don't have to. lol!!!
Aliantha • Mar 17, 2008 10:15 pm
Well, it's one or the other of those two. The first one means we'd have a much lower mortgage, but the second one would be pretty much a straight swap. The first one would need a deck, and there's also signs of wear and tear on the carpets etc which didn't show up in the photos. It's also on one of the main roads, so more traffic, and it's further from the water.

The second one is only about two blocks from the water, and there's nothing needs doing what so ever. I'd probably want to put a pool in for the kids, and there's a double car shed out the back which I'd probably line and set up as a rumpus area for the kids, but that'd be something to keep me occupied while everyone else is out at school and work.

We'll have a think about it for a few days though. Dazza reckons he's happy to take my word for it on which one, but I still think he should come and have a look for himself.

Plenty of stiffs there. ;-)

I took Dazza down to check out the properties in Jacobs Well over the easter break and we're signing a contract on the one with the spa. There's an additional agent involved now with better pics if you're interested. Hopefully the vendor will accept the price we've offered and in the mean time, our agent up here will sell the place we're currently living in.
DucksNuts • Mar 24, 2008 11:48 pm
Those pics are heaps nicer, Ali.

Good Luck!!
Aliantha • Mar 24, 2008 11:52 pm
Thanks mate. I've had a talk to the bank and our manager doesn't seem to think there'll be any problems even if we haven't sold this place, so that's nice to know. Obviously we'll be happier if we sell though. Much less interest to pay. ;)
DucksNuts • Mar 25, 2008 6:19 am
Yeah, bridging loans have ridiculous fucking interest rates.
TheMercenary • Mar 25, 2008 7:59 am
Looks like a real nice place to live.
Aliantha • Mar 25, 2008 4:48 pm
I think so too Merc. The township itself only has a population of 650, so it's very much a village lifestyle which to me is something to look forward to. I'm tired of the ratrace here in Brisbane, but we're still only about 30 mins drive from either the center of Brisbane or the center of the Gold Coast, so we're away from it all, but not if that makes any sense.

I liked the first house so much better. What made you choose this one? The High ceilings made it look more homey.
Aliantha • Mar 26, 2008 12:40 am
There's a lot of things wrong with the first one. It'll basically need a complete renovation within 10yrs, and as my husband is not handy at all, that means a lot of the work would be pretty expensive. For us, we're better off getting somewhere that doesn't need any maintenance. Plus, the second one looks much nicer in person. ;)
TheMercenary • Mar 26, 2008 12:46 am
Got it. Pictures can be deceiving.
Aliantha • Mar 26, 2008 12:47 am
yeah...and also, the location of the second one is much better. 5 minute stroll to the water etc. The first one is on the road out of town and means we'd be using the car just as much as we do now.
Aliantha • Mar 26, 2008 7:37 pm
The vendor has accepted our offer, so we'll be moving in a month or two.

[effie]How excitement![/effie]
DucksNuts • Mar 27, 2008 5:39 am
Please disregard my question in the other thread.

Congrats!!

Ha ha, now you have to pack up all your shit.
Aliantha • Mar 27, 2008 5:43 pm
Well, the good news is that since we moved in here, I've been culling all the junk that we've collected over the years, so there's nowhere near the amount of stuff to move as there was a couple of years ago. It'll take less than a day for me to pack this house up if the kids do their own stuff, so I think that's pretty good going.

But thanks anyway mate. I can tell you're very happy for me. ;)
