Valentine's Day dread or delight?
Is it a day you look forward to? Are you a giver or reciever?
I'd say I am both. I give to my mother and my older lady friend and give to my compainion too. When I am in a relationship I make sure to say I don't like stuffed animals however.
The day itself isn't really a big deal to me. I do recieve gifts like flowers or coffee out quite often enough so there really isn't anything I want on that particular day.'cept chocolate :drool: and if I don't get some I just go buy some :)
So how is your Valentine's celebrated?

When I was a kid, Valentine's day was cool. I've hated it since then.
Reason number 1,476,092 I love my wife is that she suggested that this year not only should we not exchange gifts or flowers or go out to dinner, but we also should not exchange cards on Valentine's day.
We'll just stay home and snuggle on the couch watching season 2 of The Wire on DVD from Netflix. Oh, wait. It'll be Thursday. We'll probably watch Lost.
My husband and I give each other small gifts, and we relax. Order pizza or chinese. Watch a movie. Play with little one. It doesn't sound romantic or special, but even the simple things are romantic and special. There's nothing like hearing little one laugh, there's nothing like being in my hubbys arms, nothing like spending time with the ones I love.

Last year we went out to dinner and I bought my husband a new fishing rod (which he loved because he's very specific about what kind of rod he likes and I had been collecting clues for months beforehand).
This year I think it'll be fairly quiet. The book launch is the next day, so we might just get takeaway or something and take a night off. D will probably still send me flowers though.

We have a hard time getting into the bigger holidays, so Valentine's usually isn't even on the radar.
The awkward thing is, just yesterday I got a call from my MIL telling me that she is going to come visit us the weekend after, and that furthermore she is going to watch the kids Saturday night so that we can go out to dinner for a belated Valentine's Day. She's done this several times before, both inviting herself over and then kicking us out. I know she means well, and though her methods are pushy there's nothing inherently wrong with a grandmother wanting to spend time with her grandkids--but it's really weird having it dictated, especially because then we feel obligated to actually dress up and go somewhere nice, to somehow validate her gesture.
Point out that it's actually not so much fun going out 7 months pregnant, and could you store the babysitting for a night you really need it? ;)
You're lucky Clod. I only wish my Mum could still do that for me. MIL is in a wheelchair, so no hope there either. Fortunately, my boys are now big enough to say, "can you organize a sleep over at so and so's this weekend?", but no one's better than family for your kids.

For quite a while Valentine's Day bugged me because I was single, looking for a girlfriend, and not having any luck. While I am still without a girlfriend, and wouldn't mind finding one, Valentine's Day is now just another day for me. It doesn't bug me like it used to.
That was me for a while. Years of not having anyone and spending the day bummed. Than just ignoring it for a few years. Then I found my hubby. I know I am lucky. He is the most wonderful man on earth. :) We don't really get into Valentine's Day.
We have not been out alone since baby. Occasionally we talk about it, but honestly, I am perfectly happy going to Macaroni Grill with Little One. Better than worrying if he's ok. And I am away from him so much with work, I don't want to leave him at night.
All you happy flappy people? Shut up.

I had 4 boyfriends who ended up getting married a year or two after dumping me. That really bothered me.
When I was in my early 20s, some of my friends got married, most got divorced... I tried to cheer myself up with "better then getting divorced... they weren't ready, you're not ready..." By my late 20s, early 30s, all my friends married, popping out kids... The few single friends I had we way too into the party scene. Lots of Friday nights watching tv. Lots. Did I say lots? But I got my masters done.
Met my husband running. Actually, he saw me ahead of him and he just had to catch me. And catch me he did! Wasn't expecting to meet mister right on a running trail. I know, its a cliche, happens when you least expect it.
Someday you'll find the right one. And you'll be a gushy sentimental happy person that annoys others. lol
Yeah, I haven't really been looking...still stinging from the last 30 men. :lol:
But, at times, it sounds really really nice! I do like these stories about happy couples. I can even put my envy aside and think how cool it is. ;)

I think this is just hysterical.... one of my friends who is about to tie the knot just had a sex toy party, and the hostess was telling us that a group of women have hired her to throw them a "F*@k Valentine's Day" party... so if they don't have a date, at least they can go home with a vibrator! I love it.
I think Valentine's Day, however, is nice in the way that Labor Day is nice. Maybe it makes you think a little. Hooray, now it's over! (Additionally, it pretty much just makes it impossible to get dinner at a restaurant in under 2 hours.)

Meh. I've kind of gotten over V-Day. I have been single for almost every one and the one time that I wasn't my BF was too poor to do anything nice. We ended up going somewhere with his mom on the weekend of. At least he bought me a cheap teddy bear on the day.
Last year I wrote my wife a poem (posted around here somewhere).
I was going to write another one, but I haven't come up with anything yet.
My husband and I almost always write each other poems, too.

I would rather not recieve a card but I do love poems or songs. I dread stuffed animals but oddly enough have recieved enough teddy bears ( not on valentines day) that I now have a very nice collection which is stuffed in my closet. oh I gotta admit the harley teddy is very cool.

The virtue and vice squad is a police force of several thousand charged with, among other things, enforcing dress codes and segregating the sexes. Saudi Arabia, which follows a strict interpretation of Islam called Wahhabism, punishes unrelated women and men who mingle in public.

I am treating myself to a Valentine dinner.
I am having steak with onions and mushrooms, a jacket potato with a little bit of low fat creme fraiche and a herb and rocket side salad. For dessert I am having a Weight Watchers mini lemon cheesecake.
I have a "linen feel" paper tablecloth and will bring my rose fairy lights down from the bedroom to further decorate the table. I will of course be bringing many candles down too.
Oh and after I finish I am going upstairs for a long bath in a Lush scented bath - bought a bath bomb specially for the occasion.
I hate Valentines Day, but just because I am unhappily single. So this year I am celebrating it rather than moaning, moaning, moaning like in previous years!

This after last years' fiasco with the gold plated rose that didn't get delivered until June. I have terrible luck with gift-giving. It's genetic I think.

He got money towards buying a new pistol tucked in a gun and ammo magazine. And chocolates. He's the best.
We watched the Assisination of Jesse James. My original plan was either ordering out or cooking a nice dinner. He's sick, so it was a chicken soup and grilled cheese night. But we had plenty of cuddle time. I love him so much.
