Cicero • Feb 1, 2008 5:15 pm
Yea. This is awesome. You guys rock. What, did everyone get a life all of a sudden? Oh I guess all of you are so busy tonight....Sure....
:)
Clodfobble • Feb 1, 2008 5:22 pm
I just found out a couple of hours ago that there's a reunion for a bunch of ex-coworkers at 5:30 today. On the one hand, Mr. Clod won't be home from work until 7:00 at the earliest, so I could easily stop by and get back without disrupting dinner plans--but on the other hand, I don't know who's going and if I want to bother seeing them--but on the first hand, it would be cool to see people again and be all 'here's my kid I went and had, and oh yeah here's my huge freaking stomach that's gonna be another kid in a couple of months'--but on the other hand again, taking a toddler to a bar, even one which also claims to be a "grille," is not usually the best idea.
lookout123 • Feb 1, 2008 6:43 pm
Oh look, she has a baby. In a bar.
Cloud • Feb 1, 2008 7:26 pm
off with her head! or, for the true Britney experience, shave it.

:D

Hope you have fun tonight, Clod, whatever you decide.

I got off work early, yay!

Cicero • Feb 15, 2008 7:38 pm
You guys suck so bad sometimes...I suppose I'll be the only person here Saturday too...oh and chat? Pathetic....I mean me...talking to myself in chat. That's just sad. No empathy from you guys. Oh you have a life..you aren't around on Friday. I guess you are the "got out of work 2 hours early and smiling" crowd.
Don't people from Cali visti here? I mean, where is the west coast representation? I can talk about "To-Furkey" and such.....*sigh*

How's this...

We can tell bush that we have decided that the old Wednesday is the new Friday for the farmers and the economy! If any of the nerds here can work this out for me, and prove that it is good for the economy and farming I'll be glad to send it on.......

I'm not going to be picky about firm numbers, basic calculations, or factual representations...If you could possibly work in an extra Saturday on the calendar year and exclude that amount of Mondays for economic stimulus I'd be happy there too...you know...whatever you can do.

The major time divisions are based on astronomical events: the length of the year, month and day are based on movement of the Earth, moon and Sun in relation to each other. But the length of the week is based on nothing except for some old fairy tale.

Because the week is seven days long, it doesn't divide evenly into the length of any month (except three out of four Februaries) or into the length of the year, so we always have incomplete numbers of weeks. This causes much difficulty in calculations.

I would propose that we change the length of the week to six days, and that all months be adjusted to 30 days. At the end of the year we'll have five (or six) days left over, which we can treat at a bonus week - an extra holiday.

With this schedule, we'll have five weeks per month times 12 months per year, giving 60 working weeks and one bonus week. The work week will be four days (instead of five) and a two-day weekend. But we'll continue to work 40 hours per week (10 hours per day x 4), and earn the same weekly pay. So everyone will work 60 weeks per year, get paid for 60 weeks per year, and have 60 weekends per year. Pay will increase by 15% and people will be happier because there will be more weekends. Productivity will increase, income will increase, people will spend more money and the economy will rebound.

The best part is - we'll eliminate Monday!

I'm also working on revising the representation of the decimal system. But that's a subject that deserves its own thread... which I don't think anyone will want to read.

I am using company time and resources to prepare for the interview I hope to have here tomorrow afternoon. Boning up on the company, preparing answers for potential interview questions and taking a sneaky peek at the other applicants' applications.

Very wrong, but if I get the job they'll be getting a great employee, so I forgive myself for my underhandedness.

Anyway, I won't get a proper Friday Afternoon feeling tomorrow, so I'm going to have some tonight. I think there's some left under my bed somewhere.

You might want to change the wording where it says, "some old fairy tale." And somehow tie it in with fighting terrorism.
Cicero • Mar 13, 2008 1:42 pm
How's this?

The major time divisions are based on astronomical events: the length of the year, month, and day are based on movement of the Earth, moon, and Sun in relation to each other. But the length of the week is based on nothing, except for extremist muslim sectarian violence directed at all whites especially in America. The days of the week are in dire need of change to reflect the belief of Americans in our great nation, our devotion to god, our consistent denial of evil, (we will not be afraid) and promotes more spending by lengthening the vacation time to shop, and the spending bonus, as incentive. The greatest lie of the evil doers is the lie that days of the week should be numbered in 7 not 6. And we all know Mondays are evil, and our great nation will not be forced into that act against god, promoting more terrorist activity.

Well...needs work...I'm willing to work with other cellar editors. This has to be convincing and believable to the powers that be....

Finished work in the pub about 45 mins ago.
I'm soooooo sleepy, but wanted to hang out in the Cellar a while longer, when the cool kids are awake.

My bro is probably getting me my new laptop in 2 weeks time - woooohoooo!

Sundae • Apr 11, 2008 11:18 am
It's my Friday afternoon, the office is empty and my brother ordered my laptop last night. YAY!!!!

On the down side I'm currently suffering the after effects of a HUGE adrenaline dump into my blood stream caused when HM called gave me an URGENT message from the bailiff. However I was brave and called him (the bailiff), then called the solicitors representing the company I owe money too. So am feeling proud and adult. Well, I will when the shakes pass off - I feel like I'm on a shedload of heavy drugs right now!

Second downer is that Friday night does not equal relax and chill for me - working in the pub tonight. Still, gets me out of my room, keeps me sober, earns me money (to pay back my creditors and buy a laptop) so it's not too bad I spose.

Have a good Friday y'all!
Cicero • Apr 11, 2008 11:44 am
Hey. Go make some money!!! Wooo-hooo! Give them that pretty smile there Sundae.....Bound to get a bag of cash tip at some point.
:)
Sundae • Apr 18, 2008 10:48 am
Friday afternoon again, and what a difference a week makes.
No panic today, no hangover, no fear of being contacted by people after money.

I've come to an agreement with the solicitors who were chasing me last week and am looking forward to payday next week - even if hardly any will go into my pockets.

Still - it's a more stable way of living, and anyway one of the reasons May will be a hard month is because I'll be paying for my laptop and two tickets my bro booked me for a show in June that I am already really excited about, so it's all good.

Oh and I am decreasing the amount of anti-depressants I'm taking. So it's a calm and positive Friday afternoon hai from me. Hope yours is as good when it reaches you.
SteveDallas • Apr 18, 2008 11:02 am

Meanwhile, my best buddy here at work was in her office with her sister with the door shut. She knew I was speaking with this guy. After Flowers By Irene left I went back to her office with my hands behind my back, opened the door with my elbow (there's a little window so she saw all this) and said "They're taking me in. I'll try to call you later." She about freaked. I couldn't believe she was falling for it. She said later it even looked like I had tears in my eye. I'm thinking "wtf does she think of me that she so easily believes the feds are after me." Best pimp ever!

I'm not working today. Unfortunately, I got too much cold medicine in me to enjoy a brew.
Cloud • Apr 18, 2008 6:38 pm
well, hell. who needs beer with that stuff?
elSicomoro • Apr 18, 2008 6:44 pm
I wish it were that good. Fuck, NyQuil had the total opposite effect last night...kept me up for 2 extra hours.
zippyt • Apr 18, 2008 9:15 pm
Well Noon WAS going to be friday after noon , then the phone rang ,
I just got home ,
First of MANY beers !!
Sundae • Apr 19, 2008 6:22 pm
Oh dear - Friday night ended in many beers.
I don't clearly remember getting home. Sigh.

And I was so chuffed to realise I'd only spent approx £6 (and the pints I drink are £3.05!). Then I remembered James offering to set me up a tab as he knew it was pre-payday weekend and I was short on funds. Oh crikey. Get the full story when back there tomorrow!

Meh - can't be that much. I def paid for two, and can remember being bought three. If I managed to walk home I can only be missing a few at the most. This will stop though.
SteveDallas • Apr 19, 2008 10:50 pm
Unfortunately Friday afternoon was followed by Saturday. Went to two little league games, fixed one network at the office (no I wasn't supposed to work today, why do you ask?), mowed the grass, and played an orchestra concert.
xoxoxoBruce • Apr 20, 2008 12:57 am
Mowed the grass... what the hell do you have kids for?
Griff • Apr 20, 2008 7:06 am
That's what is called a euphemism Bruce.
SteveDallas • Apr 20, 2008 11:54 am
No, it wasn't a euphemism this time. Besides, I had a new lawnmower... even my laissez-faire attitude toward lawn maintenance won't keep me from trying out a new gadget.
xoxoxoBruce • Apr 20, 2008 12:14 pm
New toy? Ah, dat 'splain it. :D

I feel like I missed a few episodes. The last show I saw, Sundae Girl was going to AA, on the wagon, financially responsible, and on the road to better things. What happened while I was gone?
DanaC • Apr 21, 2008 9:55 am
Hmm...my Friday afternoon was spent stuffing envelopes and franking 1500 letters in a panicked rush to get them into the post in time to reach electors who've registered for a postal vote. Then I realised that, because the delays in printing had forced me to send them first class rather than second, the overall cost was too high (election spending limits!) so pulled out five hundred of them.....and spent Friday evening hand delivering them around the ward. Took me four hours, finished at ten past nine and got two buses home (calling via the KFC in between buses).

Next Friday it's the last friday before election week.....so I'll be busy then too.....and the following Friday is the day of the count.....so that Friday afternoon will tell me whether I've held my seat or lost it....

I think I maybe just back slowly out of this thread and not come back again until May :P
Sundae • Apr 21, 2008 9:58 am

I fell off.
But I am suffering for it and determined to be better all round.

I'm still on the road to better things, I just stopped off briefly in the Restrooms of Having the Weekend to Myself.
HungLikeJesus • Apr 21, 2008 10:42 am
So just normal stuff, SG. I was worried that someone had moved in to your body without the proper respect.

No kidding, SteveDallas. I've been micromanaged to within an inch of my life this week. Except Wednesday, which was a very good day.

Woohoooo...it's Friday and we get out at 4 and I am outta here!

Have a great weekend everyone!
DanaC • Apr 25, 2008 4:44 pm
Well, not Friday aft, but Friday night *smiles* I nipped down to L's house to pick up another box of leaflets for tomorrow, had a bottle of lager whilst there and am now back home, working my way through a glass of pear and strawberry cider. It's a little after half nine and I am done for the night. Yey. Chill time *luxuriates* Gonna watch the new Hero's episode on BBC-iplayer and eat a microwaved lasagna. Happy times.
Cicero • May 2, 2008 3:53 pm

My work day doesn't begin until 6pm. I'm glad I'm not working until midnight, though. I dunno...there's something about working the hours between 10pm and midnight.
SteveDallas • May 2, 2008 4:42 pm
blech.

Dinner and a show.

And no, I'm not looking forward to it.
Cloud • May 2, 2008 4:44 pm

Cloud • May 23, 2008 6:35 pm
I totally skipped out on work this afternoon to play hooky. My boss has been gone since yesterday--left me with nothing to do but filing. Plus, I was pissed at him for something he did.

Bored and pissed--not a good combination. And the office was dead, dead, dead (we have a 3-day weekend, for you non-US peeps).

So I dropped off my half day vacation request and said See ya!
Cicero • May 23, 2008 6:52 pm
Yea...everyone in our office left by 12 but me, and then I was gone by 2:00. No one cares. That's a good thing!
You can choose to use your alone time by singing on the intercom half-naked next time Clouder.
Or answer the phones politely stark naked. lol! Just lock the doors and be sure to close the blinds first. :)
Cloud • May 23, 2008 7:04 pm
I chose to use the time shopping! Malls were packed, as we're obviously not the only ones let loose on the world prematurely.

I actually found a really cute swimsuit that I like and looks good on me. (Well, as good as it could look, anyway).
Sundae • May 23, 2008 8:18 pm
We've got a three day weekend too.
Although I'm technically working as I'm going to take pics of a carnival where children we've been working with are making an appearnance. And then the pub in the evening. But after all it's an exciting work day.

I was going to say - beats working. But I actually enjoy both my job right now!

Happy Saturday morning to yous all.

No, it's Monday I'm working (and Sunday, but that's just 4 hours at the pub and par for the course).

Tomorrow I do as I please (except opening the office at 09.00!)
It's gonna be, gonna be, gonna be.... a lovely daaaaaay!

Thanks :)

Crummy Friday afternoon.

Reports to get in, which I couldn't compile til the Project Managers got me the info (whip cracking and chasing, bleurgh)
Then lots of excel & maths
Then couldn't send because the attachments were too big

Finally got it done (did get a well done from the boss - apparently I handled it very well and more calmly than they've done in previous years)

Then 1 pint at the pub - whet my whistle for more, but everyone was on a deadline for other things.

AND - after being approved for new cat adoption there has been a suspected sighting of Dylan which raises all my hopes and feelings.
It should be a wonderful thing - but the sighting was a week ago. And occurred after he'd been missing 3 weeks. And was on my own street.

It just sounds so unlikely. I'm sure it must have been Diz.
But my hopes are up anyway and I fear another 3 weeks hope and the inevitable crash.

Yes I know I put too much emotional investment in my cats. I'm lonely.
Cloud • Jun 6, 2008 3:22 pm
co-workers and I went to lunch at "the trough" aka Golden Corral.

Waddled back to work.

Now we have to suffer 4 more hours, when all we really want to do is nap.

You can probably set your cell phone as an alarm. I'm just sayin'.
Flint • Jun 6, 2008 3:33 pm
Yay I just got a new thing. I have a cell phone for 24/7, a pager for Service Center tickets, and NOW a portable phone thing for when I'm at work but you can't find me, and my cell phone isn't getting a signal, and I can't hear you paging me overhead.

I took a junky old trumpet my wife had in to a music store a friend works at, traded gossip with the friend, brought it back home & said it was too junky to be worth fixing. Then I ate lunch, mowed the grass, went out for a bottle of Tequila for our bucket of margarita's. My son's little league playoff game starts in an hour.
monster • Jun 6, 2008 5:00 pm
You can make really cool sculptures with junky old trumpets.

What's a funnel cake?
kerosene • Jul 25, 2008 6:59 pm
Yeah, they have 10th and washington closed off. I doubt I will find parking near there, so we might just walk to the park.

Srsly, you don't know what a funnel cake is?

sweet greasy goodness:

Image
Sundae • Jul 25, 2008 7:01 pm
I have to say... yes it does look greasy. I'll pass.
Thanks for the pic though, it's not at all what I expected.
DanaC • Jul 25, 2008 7:10 pm
Not what I expected either.....looks like washed out jelabi.
Sundae • Jul 25, 2008 7:21 pm
I expected fruit cake for some reason.
You know, proper dark dense fruit cake.
Must have been the context it was written about somewhere. Some sort of home baking scenario I imagine.
zippyt • Jul 25, 2008 8:18 pm
SG , A funnel cake is fried doe , topped with Powdered sugar , i have seen cinnamon or coco powder as well .
They are KILLLLLLER !!!
SteveDallas • Jul 25, 2008 8:45 pm
MMMM! Yummy (heart attack) carnival food goodness.

"Funnel" because you take the batter and pour it into a funnel, and then move it around as the batter runs out to make the cake.
SteveDallas • Jul 25, 2008 8:49 pm
Also, zippy.... you know I don't usually pick on people's spelling :stickpoke

But you mean dough. Not doe. (Though I'm sure there are places you can buy fried doe.)
zippyt • Jul 25, 2008 8:53 pm
there aint no minced up Deer in yer funnel cakes ????

Must be a Southern thang !!!! ;) ;)

Well, here we are again. Another Friday, seven days older and not much wiser than the last one. And, I really have to ask myself, what the fuck have I done this week? How.....no really, how can it be Friday again already?

See, now, that's the problem with going on an obsessive one. Whole weeks (and sometimes months) can just breeze on past your window unregarded.

Somewhere in amongst the haze of 1980s BBC sci-fi, I'm pretty sure I did some work. There was at least one Council meeting, a Group caucus and rally on the town-hall steps....I made a few phone calls, sent a few emails and read the odd report. Compress it all, I bet it wouldn't make a day and a half's worth of work. Last week's flurry of sorting and ruthless disposal of clutter was a good start to my summer mission but it has floundered somewhat this week, stranded on the badly-made, papier-mache rocks.

So, what do I have planned this weekend? Well....I was thinking of watching some early Doctor Who episodes....

It's Friday. This is a good thing. Friday is for indulgence.....Monday, now, next Monday I am going to get busy.....
Cloud • Aug 1, 2008 3:52 pm
what, nobody's posted about the bus decapitation yet?
