How often do you watch YouTube in Cellar posts?

Undertoad • Jan 23, 2008 8:30 pm
I have a hunch.
zippyt • Jan 23, 2008 8:34 pm
if it looks interesting I will give it a look ,
some get Gonged right off the bat
Undertoad • Jan 23, 2008 8:37 pm
There ya go zip, I have posted a poll... scroll up to vote in it. You found my post before I was done writing the poll
TheMercenary • Jan 23, 2008 8:54 pm
Since I my work blocks all of them I can't watch them till I get home. That is if I remember to go back to the thread of interest and take the time watch it.
Cloud • Jan 23, 2008 9:09 pm
only a few which seem particularly interesting, like house tours. Mostly, they are like undescribed links--not enough information is given for me to take a chance. I'd rather read than watch, anyway.
Drax • Jan 23, 2008 9:14 pm
I'm a 25 center, and apparently in the majority.
monster • Jan 23, 2008 9:28 pm
Depends who posted them. Srsly. I have no idea how many person X posts (those threads have become flyover country for me), but of the ones posted by other people, maybe 50% of the non music ones. I don't read every thread, though, so really I have no idea.

Enough to appreciate the feature when it is used sparingly and appropriately. Howzat? What do you mean, that isn't an option? :p

On further reflection, I tend to listen to more than I watch -if it becomes evident that listening will be enough, I often pop elsewhere and do something else while it runs.
jinx • Jan 23, 2008 9:32 pm
I've had the West St. Paul song stuck in my head all day....

I can't pick an answer from the choices above. Some? None of Drax's though.
:D
HungLikeJesus • Jan 23, 2008 9:38 pm
I don't watch any when I'm connecting from home (due to slow dial-up), and only occasionally when I have a fast connection.

Those are big reasons I don't watch them all either. Posts that include them as part of argument to make a point I ignore as well.
lumberjim • Jan 23, 2008 10:03 pm
oh la tee dah.....
'i ignore your post if you use a video to support it'

oohh lah...

yeahhorseshit.

whatever.

i watch most of the ones i see at least long enough to see what it is. i get interrupted a lot at work, too. i was just thinking today about how fucking cool youtube has become. if you can think of it, it's probably on there.
DucksNuts • Jan 23, 2008 10:07 pm
I used to watch them all, like the ones directly about dwellars or their lives....now I cant be arsed.

I havent watched any of LJ's or Drax's youtube threads, and I have skipped the ones in mid convo unless someone else watched them and commented enough to spark my interest :)
Clodfobble • Jan 23, 2008 11:50 pm
I skip 99% of the music, and watch at least the beginning of just about everything else.
lumberjim • Jan 24, 2008 12:45 am
you make me sad
kerosene • Jan 24, 2008 12:59 am
They are always really choppy on my computer, so I end up watching only those I already know I am really interested in.
Aliantha • Jan 24, 2008 1:17 am
I don't watch many. Mainly the house tours or ones of people from here. If I wanted to watch youtube clips, I'd probably go to youtube to do it.
NoBoxes • Jan 24, 2008 4:11 am
I like the dwellars' home made personal videos. The other videos haven't peaked my interest and from what I've been reading there may even be someone here who ought to have their YouTubes tied.

Aw, don't be sad. If my laptop makes noise, I'm automatically getting a toddler in my face trying to see what it is, and then he will inevitably decide that it's his turn to get to watch kid videos on there. Plus, if I only have 10 minutes to browse threads, it's not economical to spend three of it watching a music video of a song I've heard a hundred times before. Maybe if I had time to kill...
LabRat • Jan 24, 2008 10:24 am
I have watched the Dweller Dwellings ones, (LOVE those!!) then a few of the ones in other places. None of the music ones and maybe 4 total of the Video Clips Thread. My time is limited too. When I'm typing away or reading the Cellar at my desk, I can pass it off as real work as long as the sound is off, which makes most of the videos pointless to watch.
lumberjim • Jan 24, 2008 11:21 am
is your hunch supported, T? or refuted?
Undertoad • Jan 24, 2008 12:30 pm
My hunch was that they are less popular than they seem. It proves out. 40% of dwellars will almost surely not watch a given video, and for another 33% it's highly unlikely. Only one in four of us watch half or more.

you know what this means, dwellars?
Drax • Jan 24, 2008 12:41 pm

And now I know why UT doesn't ban Dwellars. He can't find that frakkin' ban key. :D

i love that.
bbro • Jan 24, 2008 12:56 pm
I don't watch any of them because I get online at work and we aren't allowed to use headphones. I am NOT risking playing a video at work with the sound on.
DanaC • Jan 24, 2008 4:42 pm
I go through phases with youtube. I'll skip them for a bit and then do a catch up round during slow periods when there's not much going on in here and i have free time. Also, for a long time I couldn't access them, then when I was able to, I discovered all those vids that UT had posted and watched all of them.

Sometimes when I've watched a vid I look on the menu and see what else is there too.

What about at home?
busterb • Jan 24, 2008 10:00 pm
I know, but how do ya stop the sob, if you don't like it? Besides click go back.

it keeps on loading and sucking up your download speed though until it either finishes, or you refresh the page....even quick reply does not interrupt it.
Sundae • Jan 25, 2008 8:43 am
I watch the personal videos whenever I can, and any which look interesting on the Olde Video Clippe thread.

For me it mostly depends on the poster - if I saw a clip posted by Clod I'd almost definitely watch it just because she would have to have a good reason to include it. I like the Gong Show too, but I don't watch every submission, and only a few of those that get through.

Am not watching any today as I haven't been allocated a PC with headphones. It's not a hardship! I'd only weep bitter tears if there was a new Dwellar video as the sound equals the visuals in terms of importance on those.
glatt • Jan 25, 2008 8:51 am
Not supposed to watch videos or stream music at work. I'm physically able to do it, but don't want to draw negative attention to myself. So that leaves watching at home, where I have much less time. I don't watch Drax's and only watch a few of the music ones. I love the personal Dwellar ones. If the clip is on the ye olde video clip thread and is described and sounds interesting, I'll watch that. I like the videos a lot but only watch about 10% of them.

Oh right, I thought buster meant if it's irritating the crap out of you while you were trying to read the rest of the posts. Didn't think about download speed etc.

Sorry, just saw this, I wasn't ignoring. I don't have an internet connection at home. Can't afford one right now. Even if I could, my computer would probably screech to a halt trying to play them.
If I could, I would, but I can't, so I don't

Excellent point there.

Who the hell is gonna click on a YouTube clip without having any idead about what it even is?

How long does it take to copy/paste the title at least? Come on people, give us a reason to be interested.

Actually, I just like the way it sounds and I can finally use it!! I know, big dork :D
Cicero • Jan 25, 2008 3:44 pm
In recent months only one, because now I am allowed to at work. (there was a policy and fine at the old place) I look forward to it now! The one I saw was a hot cellar member saying hi. Totally worth the second and a half out of my life. So between never and few. Once.

So yea...now that I can...I'm too busy to be here much. Sucks.
Drax • Jan 25, 2008 5:17 pm
Doesn't matter to me who posted the video or what the description is. If I'm curious enough, I'll watch it.
monster • Jan 25, 2008 8:32 pm
Interesting. Curiosity that is affected by neither the description nor the source. Random in other words. That confirms a lot.
Drax • Jan 25, 2008 9:50 pm
Yep. Sure does. Why should my decision be affected by who posted the video?
