January 21, 2008: Transparent Toaster

The inventors of this little device claim it will make burnt toast a thing of the past. The glass itself is the heating element, so the toasting is more even, as well as completely visible to the discerning toast connoisseur. A traditional timer is also included for those who are too busy to watch their toast brown. On the other hand, those people also might be too rushed to have to cook their toast one piece at a time...

One half of a bagel at a time, hmmmmm
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 21, 2008 11:45 am
I believe it's a concept, they haven't been able to make work yet. The glass doesn't get hot enough to toast the bread, but they are still working on it.
Sundae • Jan 21, 2008 11:46 am
Maybe it's shopped ;)
Gravdigr • Jan 21, 2008 2:38 pm
That looks like a cool invention, but I bet it's expensive...I don't have that kind of bread.:yelsick:
JDwithcoke&lime • Jan 21, 2008 2:42 pm
New meaning to 'Do Not Touch the Glass'
How do you get the toast out?
bbro • Jan 21, 2008 2:53 pm
One of these?

I would totally buy that toaster, though

Welcome to the cellar JD! I was thinking the same thing - How do you get the bread out and what happens when it gets a lil dirty in between the glass? Thats gotta be a PITA to clean.

lumberjim • Jan 21, 2008 4:26 pm

let's get to the main point....which is how long would it take before flint put his wang in that toaster if he had one.

i'll set the over-under at 14 hours.

I don't even have a toaster, since I never use it, but I want that one.

A company called Inventables. As Bruce said, the company website admits that this product does not actually exist yet, but they believe it is possible with more R&D.
BigV • Jan 22, 2008 12:59 pm
Hot glass looks exactly the same as cold glass. /voe
binky • Jan 22, 2008 3:38 pm
thanks Clod so sorry it doesn't work yet, I can't wait

What they need is an inner heating element glass, and an outer layer of glass sandwiching some aerogel.
lumberjim • Jan 22, 2008 5:50 pm
i think it's a bad idea. it'll look like shit after 2 pieces of toast. plus...all the heat will be escaping out the sides. why not just put a lexan window in a real toaster?

This of course also solves the repeated complaints about dirty glass and brings the product into that coveted "subscription" realm so sought after by businesses.

I don't have either. I'm allowed to use HM's toaster - I haven't asked about the wang.
