January 10, 2008: USB Hubbub

xoxoxoBruce • Jan 10, 2008 2:34 pm
What's with all the USB powered trash* for sale on the web? Everything from aquariums and cooling/heating drink coasters to Christmas trees and personal vibrators, all USB powered. I'm sure I haven't seen them all.

All this trash* is drawing power from, and creating heat inside, your computer. That's not good for the computer. Is it worth the geek oneupmanship, or amusement to shorten the computers life?

Oh, it's a company computer.... nevermind.

* trash is used as a personal opinion and not a condemnation of geeks, nor condemnation/inference of abuse, of the free market system.

Do you think anyone buys this crap for themselves? I always assumed it was novelty gift stuff.

I got a USB powered heated coffee mug for Christmas. (It also have a car adapter, which should work well for charging my ipod!

LOL! That's kinda like my invention. Powdered water, I just can't figure out what to add to it to make it water again...

Welcome to the cellar!

Thanks, I've been a quiet wather for years.
Most of the time I get more out of the smart ass remarks from you guys than the pictures themselves.

True.

That's not good for the computer.

False.

Is it worth the geek oneupmanship, or amusement to shorten the computers life?

Moo. (The question is based on a false assumption.)

Didn't the Coyote have some de-hydrated water on a Roadrunner cartoon?
Shawnee123 • Jan 16, 2008 11:41 am
Steven Wright has a bit "I bought some instant water, but I don't know what to add."
Clodfobble • Jan 17, 2008 1:12 pm
Maybe it's like ice-nine, it just needs a single drop of water to shift the whole powdered mass back into water.
BigV • Jan 17, 2008 1:24 pm
This was interesting. What is a hydrate?
toranokaze • Jan 17, 2008 3:23 pm
Futerama had instant water with the same effect
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 17, 2008 4:12 pm
Been done.
Shawnee123 • Jan 17, 2008 4:25 pm
There is nothing new under the sun.
xoxoxoBruce • Jan 17, 2008 4:34 pm
