January 9, 2008: iTaser

This remarkable little device was just unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It is a Taser... with a built-in mp3 player. 1 GB of memory and 100,000 volts of electricity, together at last like peanut butter and jelly.

And notice the fashionable leopard print! Arizona-based Taser International admits its new device is particularly aimed at women. A spokesman said the inclusion of a music player would encourge purchases by women who want a form of self defense while out jogging, but who would otherwise take an iPod instead of a weapon. In addition, because of the added mp3 player function, the gadget is being picked up for sale in non-weapon retail outlets, to be sold alongside cellphones and other electronics.

The company has already sold 160,000 units in the 43 states in which personal Taser use is legal.

That's pretty cool. Not as cool as the iVibe, but still cool.

It'd be interesting if a broken unit had the high voltage accidentally ground to, say, the headphone jack.

The link in jbolty's post goes to a site that carries (among other things :-) a product called the iBuzz. Check it out and see if you don't agree that a better name for this product would be the iPud. :p
