The Snow Eating Fog

Griff • Dec 23, 2007 9:01 am
This morning we have 6 to 8 inches of snow on the ground. Unfortunately it is disolving into the fog. Rain is on the horizon so Kwanza ain't looking too white.
glatt • Dec 23, 2007 9:06 am
I thought this thread title said "The Snow Eating Frog."
Griff • Dec 23, 2007 9:44 am
Lil' Pete decided it was worth doing.
monster • Dec 23, 2007 9:57 am
Violent rain storms earlier this morning ate most of our snow, so no white Kwanzaa in Detroit, either :(

(nice frog!)

I thought it said frog too, I was like....why isnt this an IotD
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 23, 2007 10:26 am
Check the snow for signs of little cat feet.
TheMercenary • Dec 23, 2007 10:35 am
It never snows in Coastal Georgia, but Kwanza is everywhere. Nothing like made up holidays to brighten the season.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 23, 2007 10:37 am
Aren't all holidays, "made up"?

Yea, but the only ones I care about are the ones that give me paid days off from work. :D

Snow report: The white stuff took a beating but we've still got some cover. Snow showers today... its gonna be okay.
Sundae • Dec 24, 2007 10:59 am
Great frog!
And I didn't think it said Snow Eating Frog, but if I ever join another forum (but why would I? Everything I want is here?) then that will be my username.
classicman • Dec 24, 2007 11:05 am
Go with it for a user title

Actually, they are all made up holidays. Some just came along later than others.

From wikipedia
The word Christmas probably didn't come around until the 11th century, although the celebration of Christ's birth is possibly from 200 AD. The modern Christmas, with Santa Claus, probably dates closer to mid-1800's. The popularity and significance of Hanukkah, which actually dates back to the post-battle celebration about 200 B.C.E., came shortly after.

Whether you are using the term "Black" or "African American", you are referring to a group of immigrants who are distinct from all others since they were brought here as slaves. As such, in most cases they were not allowed to keep their cultures. This means that now they must either try to reacquire a culture or invent one. reacquiring a culture is difficult, since one would need to know a lot about their ancestors. Kwanzaa is an attempt to build a new culture.

Essentially it's another solstice holiday wrapped up with cultural or historical trappings. Everyone deserves one and everyone gets one. The only people who had a problem with this were a few Texaco executives.

ROBERT ULRICH: (tape comments as shown on screen) I've heard this diversity thing. You know, how black jellybeans agree. RICHARD LUNDWALL: (tape comments as shown on screen) That's funny. All the black jellybeans seem to be glued to the bottom of the bag.
ROBERT ULRICH: (tape comments as shown on screen) You can't just have we and them. You can't just have black jellybeans and other jellybeans. It doesn't work.
RICHARD LUNDWALL: (tape comments as shown on screen) Yeah. But they're perpetuating the black jellybeans.
CHARLAYNE HUNTER-GAULT: There were also what appeared to be racist remarks about Texaco employees who celebrate Kwanza, an African-American holiday.
ROBERT ULRICH: (tape comments as shown on screen) I'm still having trouble with Hanukkah. Now we have Kwanza--F--ing niggers, they have s-----d all over us with this.
TheMercenary • Dec 26, 2007 12:22 pm
Yea, I know. That is why the other thread is called Another made up holiday.

glatt • Dec 31, 2007 9:27 am
Cool! We got cold drizzle with patches of black ice. Him frog, Hopkin, not so happy here.

I set up my tripod and took this last last week in the driveway.

I did GIMP it a bit around the bottoms of the tires, and got rid of the center stand.
xoxoxoBruce • Dec 31, 2007 5:44 pm
Better put some chains or ice racing spikes on that baby, or you'll never get back up the driveway.

@Griff, what's Eggnog looking at, that's more interesting than you?

Thanks Griff. It's hard to believe it's 18 years old (1990 Hawk GT). It still starts easily, even after sitting neglected for three months.

I have seen this thread everyday since it was started. Every day since it was started I read "Snow eating Frog". I didn't realize that wasn't what it said until the discussion earlier in the thread. Maybe I need glasses.
