December 6, 2007: Robot patient

The Japanese have come up with this one, a dental patient who is... a robot. With the use of this automatron, dental students can see what it's like to drill teeth on a real-life patient before they ever drill on a real-life patient. The robot is programmed to react accurately when the drill touches a nerve.

I'd drill that.

They should make a fat, ugly robot with bad teeth and bad breath. That would give the dental students a feel for what they're getting into.

I saw this story on a Japanese site a month or so ago, but without the picture, so I decided not to post it here.
IIRC the funniest bit is that "her" breasts are equipped with sensors and she reacts (negatively) to inappropriate touching. Who says engineers don't have a sense of humor?

That was my first thought, too.. she looks just like a real doll. Only, I don't think they normally have crossed eyes. Is that for the ocular surgery students??

It makes sense. If you go to someone to fill your cavities, you want to be sure they know how to use their tools.
