Man meat

Cloud • Nov 24, 2007 7:49 pm
no, not that kind. There's this guy in the apartment across from me out on his porch barbequing.

IN THE SNOW!

WTF is up with that? I mean, I get the sort of "mighty hunter" thing, but come on. Is snow, wind, and 33 degrees really bbq weather?
Aliantha • Nov 24, 2007 7:53 pm
maybe he just really loves BBQing?
Cloud • Nov 24, 2007 7:56 pm
maybe he should take up knitting.
Aliantha • Nov 24, 2007 8:01 pm
Maybe...but if it floats his boat, who is he harming?

I think we all do weird stuff that other people have trouble comprehending from time to time.
jinx • Nov 24, 2007 8:04 pm
You're watching your neighbor bbq, and suggesting that he's the one that needs new hobby??

Just kidding Cloud, but I've got steaks marinading now that'll I'll be bbq-ing tomorrow. Even if it snows.
It's better than stinking up the house with the broiler imo.
Cloud • Nov 24, 2007 8:06 pm
oh, I know. I'm not actually castigating him for it--I just think it's weird.

And I just glanced out my window!

And . . . okay, yeah. Probably not as weird as me.

. . . now I'm hungry!
LJ • Nov 24, 2007 8:08 pm
I'm fuckin starvin. I could bite the shit out of some barbequed grub right now
Cloud • Nov 24, 2007 8:10 pm
no man meat here. I'm eating noodles. Limp ones, at that.

:D
Aliantha • Nov 24, 2007 8:11 pm
I'm eating beef and vege soup that I made yesterday.

It's very yummy.

I BBQ in cold weather all the time. When we lived in Colorado we BBQ in driving snow and wind on a regular basis. Man's got to do what a man's got to do.
Jaydaan • Nov 24, 2007 11:27 pm
We BBQ'd our steaks tonight, while it was snowing. Right now it is -4C, so the coldest its been so far this year, but milder than this time last year.

Then again we BBQ at -30C, steak just doesn't taste right pan fried, or broiled.

crazymen!
Urbane Guerrilla • Nov 25, 2007 12:15 am
Hmm... it's cold... light a fire... not so very crazy, I think.
Cloud • Nov 25, 2007 12:31 am
not when you have a stove and oven inside, out of the snow, that cook perfectly well.
Sundae • Nov 25, 2007 7:37 am
Doesn't Buster bbq in winter?
And who's our Alaskan dwellar, Seakdivers, I think she does too.

Yep, but the temps here aren't too bad, seldom any snow.

Not the same, it is about overcoming the challenge. Cold out, make fire try to stay warm, try to cook a good meal, keep trying, make fire bigger if you need to, must overcome......:D

oooga oooga!
Aliantha • Nov 25, 2007 6:03 pm
Hey...there's no reason why you can't pan fry and steak and have it taste delicious.
monster • Nov 25, 2007 10:18 pm
pretty normal to BBQ in the snow here
bbro • Nov 26, 2007 4:37 pm
I love grilled food. If I had a grill, you better believe I would be out there in any weather to slap the meat on the heat.

(PS - I'm a girl)

Shh you are scaring the men
Aliantha • Nov 26, 2007 7:52 pm
Hey...there's nothing scarey about me. I'm a pussy cat. ;)
Cloud • Nov 26, 2007 8:13 pm
well, I suppose you got to get them to do something.

j/k guys!
Urbane Guerrilla • Nov 27, 2007 2:01 am
Seriously, though -- the essence of proper bbq flavor is the smoke.

That amount of smoke inside the kitchen can be, well, darn noisy until you open the smoke detector's casing. You'd want a very effective exhaust fan...
Aliantha • Nov 27, 2007 2:53 am
I never have the meat on the pan long enough to create too much smoke. ;)

We do have a good rangehood on the stove though, so that helps.
rkzenrage • Nov 27, 2007 2:56 am
ALL weather is BBQ weather.

This is my first post to the forum. Didn't see anywhere to do an intro but saw the "man meat" subject line and... well... figured that was as good a place as any to start.

Anyway, this reminded me of a funny scene I witnessed once and since it's bbq related I figured I'd go ahead and share.

So I used to live right across the way from a fire station. My living room window overlooked the back of the station where the firemen would often gather and bbq, etc... Well, one day the bbq got a little out of hand and hearty flames were flying. I wouldn't have known this except I heard these squeals and screams like a bunch of little girls. So I look out the window and lo and behold there are three firemen outside running around the bbq trying to calm the flames and screaming and flailing about like five year olds in pig tails. I about peed myself.

Writing it down doesn't do it justice but I'll tell ya, it was a priceless moment.

That is funny, Armin.

Welcome.
Armin • Nov 28, 2007 11:45 am
Made me laugh typing it up.

Thanks for the welcome. This is a great forum. Looking forward to spending a little time here now and again.

You got me! I was genuinely hoping for the real man meat. But I'll take BBQ. Any season, rain or shine, love a good barby.
Cicero • Nov 29, 2007 5:52 pm
You guys just reminded me of hot-wings again. Damn it!!!

That's freakin' hilarious.

I'd bbq in the snow. If we had any.
