Speak Banned!

C'mon it is inevitable. How long a run will she get?

Is it going to be available electronically? That's harder to ban...... otherwise I'm going for the pre-emptive

A collector's item, definitely.

The signs indicate that Speak will end, not with a bang, but a whimper.
I'm guessing that it will peter out after three issues, when Ibram realizes that he doesn't have enough time to write the entire thing and no-one else is up to writing for it.
The school newspaper I was involved in trying to start made it as far as one edition, with a second in the pipeline when it died of terminal apathy. Turns out there wasn't much news in our high school that was both fit to print and not already in the official newsletter.
So if you make it to two issues you've beaten me, Ibram. Good luck. IIRC the most interest was generated by funny articles, a horoscope, and a sports report. Serious stuff that made people think was mostly ignored.

I read somewhere that two is indeed typical, once everyone involved realises just how hard they have to work, and differences within the editorial board raise the hoary issue of censorship.

That saying, I ran my staff newspaper for 3 years, although I admit it was officially sanctioned and I worked mostly with the CEO who liked my writing and sense of humour. We were secretly pleased when we got the thing to ourselves!

No! Not Speak!
queequeger • Nov 18, 2007 2:20 am
... what is Speak??
Griff • Nov 18, 2007 8:34 am
Ibram is starting an alternative newspaper at school.
richlevy • Nov 18, 2007 8:38 am
Is this Ibram's school paper?

Ibram, if it is and you only end up with one collectors issue, send me a copy. I'll collect anything that's one of a kind.

I thought about collecting gay Republicans until I found out there were so many that I wouldn't have enough closet space.;)

Still looking for the elusive liberal Republican.

You can't get your hands on giuliani?
classicman • Aug 10, 2008 12:23 pm
bump. Update please - whats up with SPEAK?
Ibby • Aug 10, 2008 1:33 pm
Nobody would write for it. There's no revolutionary spirit at all at TAS. I might try again this year but i hardly see the point.

I'm still hoping for that collector's edition.

Terminal apathy, then. A pity, I think.

You might resurrect it as a games/singles introduction/porno with more success.

Ibram, I know this sounds really boring, but I think you'd be better throwing that energy at the course itself. Extra-curricula stuff is all very well, but if you're the one running the club/magazine/society, it's an amazing amount of work and energy to keep it going. Personally, I think you'd be better trying to find an existing enterprise to which you can add your talents.
