Should the following threads be moved?

'Beautiful Women' to "Quality Images"
'The Pictures of Hot Guys Thread' to "Quality Images"
'Ye Olde Videoe Clippe Threade' to "Home Base" or "Nothingland"

The "Beautiful Women" and "Hot Guys" threads are bullshit threads, that dont deserve to be in the Quality Images.

As to the IotD...why move it?
LabRat • Nov 6, 2007 9:49 am
No moving anything. :2cents:
Cloud • Nov 6, 2007 9:59 am
The Beautiful Woman thread, bullshit or not (thank you DuckNuts, you're so kind), was put into Entertainment because I was thinking of how movies have touched our lives and influenced the images and perception of beauty, not just to ogle women.
monster • Nov 6, 2007 10:22 am
No. People put the threads where they intended them to be, and if they wanted them moved they would have asked. Does this strike you as a nanny site?

Thats of course just my opinion.

Cloud • Nov 6, 2007 1:11 pm
sure. As has been pointed out, you can start a thread with an idea, but other people's ideas change it. My question was, who do you think are the most beautiful women.

I'd also like to point out that I didn't make it an image thread on purpose, because I am very wary of just downloading images of the net and posting them--they may be owned by other people; particularly images of celebrities. I personally find the profligate theft of images on this site rather distressing. Not that I won't do it, just that I don't do it often.

Big Red • Nov 6, 2007 2:32 pm
Everybody just breath and relax if your having a bad just sit back in your chair and read this it could be worse.
On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the
thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson &
Johnson.

Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors,
draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed.

Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair.
Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a
table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken.

Now the fun part begins Take out the literature from the box and read
it carefully. You will notice that in small print there is a
statement:

"Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally
tested and then sanitized ".

Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times,"I am so glad I do
not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson &
Johnson."
lumberjim • Nov 6, 2007 2:35 pm
a proctologist goes to the bank to deposit his paycheck. at the counter, he reaches into his shirtpocket for a pen with which to endorse his check, but retrieves his rectal thermometer instead. He looks at the thermometer, then at the teller...then back at the thermometer, and says, "Aw, would you look at that.....Some asshole has my pen!"

yes, you're different. It's different here, and you know it. Different sensibilities, different ways of treating threads and topics, from any other forum I've been on. Different doesn't mean bad, just--it's an adjustment.

yes, that is one example. Also much more tolerance here for abuse to posters, use of others' images; no avatar, not as much sex or flirting as some other places, a strange . . . er, unique attitude toward serious/non-serious posts, etc., etc., etc.

Not bad, per se, just different, like I said. I think because the Cellar has been around for such a long time, it has evolved its own unique customs.

If you are chatting with friends, and the subject wanders, do you chastize them for ruining your conversation?

That's the key to all the differences here, for those of you who still haven't realized it. Anonymity on the internet makes people into assholes. This place does everything it can to make you not anonymous. I'll readily admit, I don't much care or remember what a dwellar says until I have enough background information to connect it to a real person in my head. Doesn't have to be overly personal information, just interests, or mannerisms, or anything that makes someone unique.

Threads here are not messageboard threads, they are conversations. This is why people get irritated when others go off on meaningless chats--because it cannot possibly involve anyone else. It would be rude if it were in person. It is also why some teasing and meanness is more tolerated than in other places--because when you are close to someone, friend or enemy, you can say things you wouldn't say to a stranger on the street. Regular messageboards are for strangers on the street. Avatars are for posters who don't know each other well enough so they need a picture to help identify them. This place is a community.

Well, as you probably remember, I was against the "no avatar" policy at first, but I quickly got used to, and eventually grew to like it this way. No thinking about which avatar to use.

Before I got into the Cellar the only message boards I used to frequent were game related (Battle Vortex or guild forums). I was kind of used to avatars but didn't tend to use 'em myself. I got out of gaming shortly before I started posting on here and stopped going on the game forums. About four months ago I started going on a couple of 'Politics' forums and a history forum. They all use avatars and I find them deeply distracting. They make the boards messy, and the screen confusing. I much prefer the simple aesthetics of the Cellar.

I also found their overuse of rules and moderation a little off putting. Threads that started out a one thing weren't allowed to just drift. If they drift the moderator jumps in and moves the threaddrift to a different section of the message board. There are hard and fast rules about what kinds of things you can post. So...if someone makes a point and somebody else posts an "I hear you" or "lol" that is considered unacceptable.

To me that spoils the flow of conversation. It's the difference between sitting around a table in a pub with mates and discussing everything under the sun...and sitting in a meeting with colleagues and discussing what is set on the agenda.

I've been to a ton a forums like that. SomethingAwful was one of them that I got tied up in. Man, that intrigued the hell out of me. I spent two years on and off integrating myself into it and becoming an accepted member but I kinda stopping going when it stopped being a game and I wasn't getting anything out of it.

Actually the biggest reason for *that* sort of post nazi-ing on that board is because the users are the total opposite of the cellar as well. "It's sort of a special pizza, because it has so many toppings. Like if you were special, you know, like someone had said to mention their name and you get a special deal thing."

Well, I was fifteen!

So drax = datalyss?

If you're banned you can just change your name and come back?
monster • May 5, 2009 8:11 am
be careful what you wish for....

I don't think he's really banned (is he?) he's an attention whore and that's one of his "tricks". he wants to be banned because that means someone is actually bothered enough by him. Or maybe he finally got his wish. Who knows (or cares) he's the original "boy who cried wolf". But he'll probably be back

I just noticed in this thread his 'drax' posts user title said banned. None of my business anyway. I'm always wondering about something. Always.
Undertoad • May 5, 2009 8:43 am
He requested banning
