Should the following threads be moved?
'Beautiful Women' to "Quality Images"
'The Pictures of Hot Guys Thread' to "Quality Images"
'Ye Olde Videoe Clippe Threade' to "Home Base" or "Nothingland"
Also, should "Image Of The Day" be a sub-forum of "Quality Images"?
The "Beautiful Women" and "Hot Guys" threads are bullshit threads, that dont deserve to be in the Quality Images.
As to the IotD...why move it?
No moving anything. :2cents:
The Beautiful Woman thread, bullshit or not (thank you DuckNuts, you're so kind), was put into Entertainment because I was thinking of how movies have touched our lives and influenced the images and perception of beauty, not just to ogle women.
No. People put the threads where they intended them to be, and if they wanted them moved they would have asked. Does this strike you as a nanny site?
Nah. They are cool where they are.
The simple fact is that any thread started for posting images belongs in an forum that contains threads for posting images.
Thats of course just my opinion.
Sure. But "Beautiful Women" was not started as an image thread at all.
you just contradicted yourself re fact and opinion [/pedant]
entirely possible, but . . . what?
No.
WTF are you doin' here anyway. The Cellar is intended just for us grown ups
This is a forum for adults, and we assume the content here is likely to be obscene or possibly offensive. All messages express the views of the people who wrote them.
Judging by the short time I spent @ Forumopolis, I'd say you'd fit in better with those young whatchamacallits.
Don't get all pissy because you are in the minority.
You asked, we answered. Drop it, if you are the adult you claim to be.
We have a history of welcoming intelligent youngsters who have something to offer the community. Hell, sometimes they stick around long enough to become old timers.
Ibram is welcome.
WTF are you doin' here anyway. The Cellar is intended just for us grown ups
Isn't Hanna Montana on or something, Drax? Better go see...
drax changed his name to datalyss
Sure. But "Beautiful Women" was not started as an image thread at all.
I like to to look at beautiful women. (and men, of course--but that's another thread). I like to look at movies, etc. and see how the styles have changed.
Who do you think represent the most beautiful women of the 20th/21st century?
And you don't think that that one word would not have caused us to started posting photos.
I get that you didn't start it as an image thread, but that's what it turned out to be.
i knew he changed his name, i just thought it was something else. whatever.
Isn't Hanna Montana on or something, Drax? Better go see...
 6 pm CST. Besides, a lot of adults watch Disney Channel.
Oh, who's Drax?
sure. As has been pointed out, you can start a thread with an idea, but other people's ideas change it. My question was, who do you think are the most beautiful women.
I'd also like to point out that I didn't make it an image thread on purpose, because I am very wary of just downloading images of the net and posting them--they may be owned by other people; particularly images of celebrities. I personally find the profligate theft of images on this site rather distressing. Not that I won't do it, just that I don't do it often.
WTF are you doin' here anyway. The Cellar is intended just for us grown ups
Stop being a prick.
It's not a long walk from there to insufferably annoying.
Don't get all pissy because you are in the minority.
You asked, we answered. Drop it, if you are the adult you claim to be.
Consider it dropped (unless someone else wishes to flame emotionally unstable, manicly depressed, physically challenged, fluffy
37 year old asshole). Last thing though, the first image in 'BW' was posted by our own beloved leader. I guess we just kinda followed his lead.
what the fuck are you on about?
I said I'd drop it. Now let's just drop it!
no, you said let's drop it, then made some little comment after it. i don't even understand what the last comment meant, but give us a break drax/datalyss whoever you are, you had an idea for the cellar, others didn't see the need so you come off as a dick to Ibram. you're told to chill and you have to make one last dig. why? what's up your ass? or are you just trying to pick a fight cuz you're bored?
Everybody just breath and relax if your having a bad just sit back in your chair and read this it could be worse.
On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the
thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson &
Johnson.
Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors,
draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed.
Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair.
Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a
table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken.
Now the fun part begins Take out the literature from the box and read
it carefully. You will notice that in small print there is a
statement:
"Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally
tested and then sanitized ".
Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times,"I am so glad I do
not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson &
Johnson."
a proctologist goes to the bank to deposit his paycheck. at the counter, he reaches into his shirtpocket for a pen with which to endorse his check, but retrieves his rectal thermometer instead. He looks at the thermometer, then at the teller...then back at the thermometer, and says, "Aw, would you look at that.....Some asshole has my pen!"
"Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally tested..."
Eww.

"No! I said a Bud Light"
/rimshot
entirely possible, but . . . what?
not you, sweetie...
ah. and here I was hoping for a rim job. phooey!
;)

Oh Cloud, I didnt mean it as an insult  I love those threads, I post in them enough!!!!
I just meant they arent *quality images* as such, because they are just air brushed pics.
Sorry :(
ah, no need to apologize. I'm all about the bullshit. At least some people think so. Nobody picked up on the (semi) serious impetus behind the thread, but'sokay.
Oh, and FYI jinx, I am currently watching a re-run of Eureka.
Still think I only watch kids shows asshole?
Dear Datalyss:
Lighten up dude.
jinx's comment didn't deserve your response calling her an asshole. You owe her an apology. If you can't summon the strength for an apology, then you shouldn't be posting at all. :chill:
Capisce?
My bad then. Didn't know she's a babe. I sincerely apologize to everybody, especially jinx.
'Nother shit-stirrer :eyebrow:
Some message boards get a kick when someone starts flinging insults around, but this one? Not so much. Which is one of the many reasons I appreciate it.
ah, no need to apologize. I'm all about the bullshit. At least some people think so. Nobody picked up on the (semi) serious impetus behind the thread, but'sokay.
I'm all about the bullshit too :) I love the bullshit threads.
A good mix of serious and not appeals to me. All work and no play, ya know?
Now who's acting like a little kid. You 'sound' like frustrated 2 year old telling mom he doesn't wanna go potty.
drax changed his name to datalyss
And now he's back to Drax again. These name changes have been annoying, but I'm pleased with this latest one. I hope you stay Drax.
Me, I'm still wondering how this thread detoured onto quality control of rectal thermometers. Interesting though.
But don't make presumptions ... I'm willing to bet there are some people who would consider that their dream job.
:searches futilely for appropriate smiley:
Compromise ...
:sick2: :stickpoke :madmoon: :moon:
BTW Drax. I thought this was a legitimate and thoughtful question. The PTB here on the Cellar are . . . a little different from other places on the 'Net and thus treat threads in their own unique way here. It takes a little getting used to.
wft?
We're different?
From what? There are other places on the internet? What in the heck are you talking about?
My bad then. Didn't know she's a babe. I sincerely apologize to everybody, especially jinx.
Thank you, sir.
wft?

yes, you're different. It's different here, and you know it. Different sensibilities, different ways of treating threads and topics, from any other forum I've been on. Different doesn't mean bad, just--it's an adjustment.
1 -- was having a little joke.
2 -- I don't know it. I don't go anywhere else. I have nothing to compare it to. I will be *this way*, because I have no other way to be. And nowhere else to be. I agree, not bad. But I would like to know more about the "adjustments" you and others have had to make.
And now he's back to Drax again. These name changes have been annoying, but I'm pleased with this latest one. I hope you stay Drax.
I'm is. Ask UT
different ways of treating threads and topics
Like any thread started by a Dweller is no longer owned by that Dweller. Sorry folks, but I still consider any thread I've started here to be my own.
a thread is only yours if you can take it away and go home.
Like any thread started by a Dweller is no longer owned by that Dweller. Sorry folks, but I still consider any thread I've started here to be my own.
yes, that is one example. Also much more tolerance here for abuse to posters, use of others' images; no avatar, not as much sex or flirting as some other places, a strange . . . er, unique attitude toward serious/non-serious posts, etc., etc., etc.
Not bad, per se, just different, like I said. I think because the Cellar has been around for such a long time, it has evolved its own unique customs.
in 20 years, are we all still going to be sitting around our computers talking to each other?
Not bad, per se, just different
I think the word you are looking for is "superior." The Cellar is superior. That's why you are here. If the Cellar was simply "bad" or "different," you wouldn't be here.
in 20 years, are we all still going to be sitting around our computers talking to each other?
if we are, bruce will have 117,100 posts
Well, as you probably remember, I was against the "no avatar" policy at first, but I quickly got used to, and eventually grew to like it this way. No thinking about which avatar to use.
Like any thread started by a Dweller is no longer owned by that Dweller. Sorry folks, but I still consider any thread I've started here to be my own.
If you are chatting with friends, and the subject wanders, do you chastize them for ruining
your conversation?
That's the key to all the differences here, for those of you who still haven't realized it. Anonymity on the internet makes people into assholes. This place does everything it can to make you not anonymous. I'll readily admit, I don't much care or remember what a dwellar says until I have enough background information to connect it to a real person in my head. Doesn't have to be overly personal information, just interests, or mannerisms, or anything that makes someone unique.
Threads here are not messageboard threads, they are conversations. This is why people get irritated when others go off on meaningless chats--because it cannot possibly involve anyone else. It would be rude if it were in person. It is also why some teasing and meanness is more tolerated than in other places--because when you are close to someone, friend
or enemy, you can say things you wouldn't say to a stranger on the street. Regular messageboards are for strangers on the street. Avatars are for posters who don't know each other well enough so they need a picture to help identify them. This place is a community.
Anonymity on the internet makes people into assholes. This place does everything it can to make you not anonymous.
that's why it's so perfect for me...
I am free to be made into an asshole through my own words and actions.
I used to be funnier, really. this had real potential....and i can still taste it...i just don't think i really nailed it this time. sigh...
Well, as you probably remember, I was against the "no avatar" policy at first, but I quickly got used to, and eventually grew to like it this way. No thinking about which avatar to use.
Before I got into the Cellar the only message boards I used to frequent were game related (Battle Vortex or guild forums). I was kind of used to avatars but didn't tend to use 'em myself. I got out of gaming shortly before I started posting on here and stopped going on the game forums. About four months ago I started going on a couple of 'Politics' forums and a history forum. They all use avatars and I find them deeply distracting. They make the boards messy, and the screen confusing. I much prefer the simple aesthetics of the Cellar.
I also found their overuse of rules and moderation a little off putting. Threads that started out a one thing weren't allowed to just drift. If they drift the moderator jumps in and moves the threaddrift to a different section of the message board. There are hard and fast rules about what kinds of things you can post. So...if someone makes a point and somebody else posts an "I hear you" or "lol" that is considered unacceptable.
To me that spoils the flow of conversation. It's the difference between sitting around a table in a pub with mates and discussing everything under the sun...and sitting in a meeting with colleagues and discussing what is set on the agenda.
Ew.
Makes me wanna say Yay Undertoad!
:thankyou:
Question: do html tags work in the sig line? Like, say, pic links?
I'm just sayin', for those who are interested in avatars, well...
I have a membership on a Jeep Commander forum. It's lousy with avatars and sigs with pictures....
I started a little shit when i expressed my opinion that they were annoying...they pointed out the ability to 'not see' them in the control panel....and all was well again.
avatars and pictures just make pages load slower etc. I think it's better without them.
For those curious...
this forum is just about the complete opposite of the cellar in every possible way.
(Careful, you may lose some IQ points by checking out that link ;) )
To give you a general idea, I've had an account there a little longer than I have here, and I've made maybe 10 posts over there, because there's such a high likelihood of being flamed when you post (whether you're new or not, though being new makes it about 10x worse.)
They don't allow thread drift, "circlejerking" (posting just to say "right on!" or "I agree"),or one-word / single-smiely posts ("lol"/ ":eyebrow: ").
yes

There, I completed it for you. Sorry to hear about your stuttering problem Ibram. :D ;)

No
I wanted to put something weird and unobtrusive in when I was having a *drought*, well actually, it was self inflicted, so more like water restrictions

Mega- Thread drift around here is an understatement.
Razz, a quote from that website in the "games" threads from the moderator about using good grammar:
Like I said, I'm not going to be going nuts with it but please use reasonable grammar and punctuation here
Post nazi much? Yep, way different than the Cellar, thank god! :) Wow!
I've been to a ton a forums like that. SomethingAwful was one of them that I got tied up in. They had a sub-forum there called FYAD (standing for 'fuck you and die') where it was basically a bunch of folks posting non-sequitors and maintaining a strange class structure where if you didn't 'get' all the weird random shit flying around you were ostracized. Man, that intrigued the hell out of me. I spent two years on and off integrating myself into it and becoming an accepted member but I kinda stopping going when it stopped being a game and I wasn't getting anything out of it.
Here at least I can get some intelligent conversation. I might get into a flame war too if one crops up. I think I'm getting a bit rusty :D

Actually the biggest reason for *that* sort of post nazi-ing on that board is because the users are the total opposite of the cellar as well. It attracts a TON of illiterate 11-13 year olds who use l337 sp34k and are generally impossible to understand, so maybe picking on them wasn't very nice....but I *DID* say it was the anti-cellar there. :D
However, you can get a temp ban there for not capitalizing your sentences, not using periods, using too many elipsis (...) or AOLisms (lol, lmao, wtf, omg, etc.).
*peeks out at the rest of the internet...*
Did I mention that I love you guys? :grouphug:
Ahhh, I can see about the leetspeak or whatever it's called, but I certainly wouldn't expect any mods here to start calling people out for not capitalizing, etc. That's for assholes like ME to point out.
Thanks CyberSundae! :)

This exchange had me laughing out loud this morning. :p
All that's left is the bottom of my feet. Any takers?

Meanwhile, over at the New Scientist web page, a story about super-high energy cosmic rays being detected from active galactic nuclei (AGNs) produced the following comment exchange:

'Nuclei' is plural, ergo there are no such thing as AGNs.

"There are no such thing" is grammatically incorrect, so we can disregard your post.
Sorry, but you asked for it :)
If you're going to be a grammar fascist, you have to be
perfect.

If the thread were on a treadmill that was going at the same speed as the wheels of the thread would the thread continue moving and take off?
(I just saw on that forum on Razz's link that someone got a warning because "&" is not a word. For crying out loud. Yet, I can't look away.)
Ha! Glad to have provided you with some entertainment...it's really nice to go over there when the cellar is being slow and watch them all devour each other's carcases. :corn:
It's hilarious! I'm almost tempted to sign up and not be overtly obnoxious, you know just be my usual obnoxious self, and see how long it takes before I get called on the carpet.
It's like the Romper Room of teh Internetz.
That forum's a hoot, Razz, they can't even agree on the ridiculous rules!

Head over if you like...just don't tell em I sent ya! :D
When I was 15 and worked at Deep Pan Pizza there was a pizza called, "Tell 'Em Phil Sent Ya" The amount of times I was asked to explain that title. Sigh.
and what was the explanation?
:D
"It's sort of a special pizza, because it has so many toppings. Like if you were special, you know, like someone had said to mention their name and you get a special deal thing."
Well, I was fifteen!
Too hilarious. I've finally found my new user title.
Bump...
Expedition anyone?
God - I just wasted ten minutes reading this entire thread. Again.
So drax = datalyss?
If you're banned you can just change your name and come back?
be careful what you wish for....
I don't think he's really banned (is he?) he's an attention whore and that's one of his "tricks". he wants to be banned because that means someone is actually bothered enough by him. Or maybe he finally got his wish. Who knows (or cares) he's the original "boy who cried wolf". But he'll probably be back
I just noticed in this thread his 'drax' posts user title said banned. None of my business anyway. I'm always wondering about something. Always.
Oh dear, perhaps we should have noticed
Forget the draxer! I was thinkin a spring expedition to that site razz found could be fun.
I found a site??
Edit: Oh, that site.
