That ol' Double Dog strikes again!

This is a challenge thread. To make or respond to challenges. So,

I dare you . . .

to go to your favorite restaurant and order something you've never eaten before off the menu.

Anyone who wants to take me up on this dare can respond here (i.e., what did you eat, and was it awful?) :)
Aliantha • Oct 16, 2007 8:37 pm
Well obviously it might be a while before you get any meaningful responses to this thread huh? ;)
Cloud • Oct 17, 2007 9:51 am
chickens!

That's okay, you don't have to take my dare. Make your own.
Sheldonrs • Oct 17, 2007 10:11 am
Going to a Chinese restaurant today with co-workers. Having the Kung Pao fish. Never had it before.

And you REALLY don't want me to dare anyone to do anything! ;-)

Is this your favorite restaurant, the one where you know the menu by heart, and always order the same 1 or 2 items? Just a random restaurant won't do.

?
This is not a dare- this would be my pleasure. What's the risk? I don't understand. If it is someone's favorite restaraunt all the food is probably awesome? (to them)

Hey Cloud- I dare you to scratch your behind while people are looking at it...at a coffee counter...at the copier at work. The next time you get that uncomfortable feeling and you know your butt has an audience...scratch scratch...You know (sometimes) when people are looking, even if you are faced the other direction...just give it a little scratch.

Let's do real dares with photo evidence......
Cloud • Oct 17, 2007 11:46 am
it's a pretty mild dare, to be sure, 'cause I'm a pretty mild person. The risk is you'll end up with something sucky and waste your time and money.

I'll think about your dare, Cicero. No pics though! Honor system, here.

I don't really have a favorite restaurant here in AZ.
It's in Los Angeles and it's called The Stinking Rose. They don't have anything on the menu I haven't tried.

I'm willing to attempt any dare which doesn't involve money

I'm currently pushing all my own boundaries in order to get a semblance of life back, so my ideas about what I can and can't do socially are blurred. Feel free to take advantage :)

okay. I dare you, SG, to write morning pages for at least one week. What are morning pages? Morning pages are 3 pages of handwritten stream-of-consciousness writing, based on "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. Conceived as a way to un-block writers, it's really designed as a brain dump for all the negative stuff we build up. It's a self-awareness and improvement tool.

Here's some more info about it: http://www.theartistsway.com/pdfs/basictools.pdf

of course, I'm sure someone may have a more interesting dare--you know, something scatalogical, or sexual, which you might rather have. But take note that I dared you to do something positive, rather than just scratching your butt. :)

To Cicero: Okay, I stood in front of the copy machine and overtly scratched my ass in front of my coworkers. No pics, but would you take an affidavit? ;)

Ouch, right in the breadbasket.
I accept your dare. Starting Friday, but only because I have an early start tomorrow and hadn't factored this into my plans.

BTW that pdf slowed my laptop to an almost complete stop. I read 8 pages before my frustration outweighed my interest - the only notebook I have is A4. Handwriting 3 pages of that is going to take a long time. Should I commit myself to that or is the author working with a smaller pad in mind?

hey, not really supposed to be ouchy. I'm doing these now, too. And you don't have to really take the dare, but I find the concept of the morning pages to be interesting. Sorry about the slow file. Let me see if I can find something else for you . . .

here's something else on it (hope this works better): http://paperartstudio.tripod.com/artistsway/id3.html

I'm sure you can pick up a copy of The Artist's Way at the library, if you are interested. She says they are supposed to be 81/2 x 11 pages. They're supposed to be handwritten, not typed, because there's not supposed to be any editing or self-censoring. But I've tried them typed, just keeping my eyes closed, and it works pretty well for me. My hands tend to go numb, particularly in the morning, if I hand-write too long.
Cicero • Oct 17, 2007 6:56 pm
Hey Cloud....I can't believe you just did that! lol!!!

If you are all about writing take a look at what the writers did about humiliation. It's a part of the art.

It's a great dare for me because it means something. I was just being lazy about the time commitment (compared to something like scratching your bum!) I did it this morning, and it cleared my head for the day - I felt really productive (then again HM was out and I usually get more done then too).

I checked t'internet and the pad I'm using is comparable - Letter size is slightly wider and shorter than A4. It took me 40 mins handwriting this morning - I'm going to do it for at least a week.

I assume you've tried the condoms... ?

I'm incredibly gratified that you're actually trying it, SG! Thanks for taking the dare, and I hope it works out for you.

Cloud is right...morning pages are an incredibly useful tool. I am using them, also. SG, if you are in interested in the Artists Way, I will send you a copy of the book. It can be transforming if taken seriously.
Sundae • Oct 19, 2007 4:55 pm
Oh yes please!
I will check at the library as well though

If it truly my favorite restaurant, I have already eaten everything on the menu, and I have had them make a few things that were not on the menu
