Good night, Cellar

Jeboduuza • Sep 27, 2007 12:41 am
Yes, another "I'm retiring speech." Read it or don't, your choice.

I don't know how you "regulars" do it. From my short lived experience, this place has some closeness to it that I just haven't really seen in other forums. There are a lot more older folk here too, so it seems more wise and focussed discussion here. Plus, this forum is about, life, not a specific topic.

But it is too brutal here. The people here are down right mean. And unlike other forums, you guys develop your put downs and beat people over the head with it over and over and over again. Sometimes, for self amusement. That is horrible. I mean it with all my heart. Some of the shit that is stirred here is downright awful and, right now at least, the forum is giving off a very bad aura of hate. Let me say it again, you dwellars are mean spirited and wouldn't dare say these things to people in real life. Act all coy and intelligent and as cocky as you want over an internet forum but some of you assholes wouldn't be talking so much shit for no reason except for your own personal amusement.

Remember my first cellar meta thread, treehouse club? Well I wanted to believe what everyone had said. But after seeing the recent pummelings of inhabitants such as sky and fnc by a group, again, I can see that this place needs to be refurbished. I mean one person believes something unpopular or says something "semi controversial" and one member of the treehouse club raises an eyebrow and before you know it the whole tree is knocking on the accused. Not just knocking, but assaulting to the extreme. This, as many educated people know, is group think. And the cellar has it's inner circle and outer circle. And the inner circle is very capable of group think and uses it often.

I cannot believe that no one said anything when lumberjim said here-->http://cellar.org/showthread.php?t=15470 AFTER HE HEARD I said that she was lost at WTC. No one said shit. Everyone here is too afraid to have lumberjim drop insult bombs on them (for months) to speak up. This community needs some real work if it cannot give compassion to a victim who was really hurt that someone added MORE to a very hurtful statement. And you know what? That asshole is just going to follow up this post with "well at least your mom still calls me!" And everyone will laugh and glance at each other but won't dare to call out a treehouse club member. Because lumberjim is not a decent person and he will try at every chance to tear you apart. Look how everyone turned a blind eye when he said those hurtful words to me. Look at fnc, everyone on the board is on his ass. Why? Because he dresses with apparel that you don't agree with? Why the hell do you care? Look at the earlier case with sky. You people spend time drawing pictures of an anti Sky club. You all took time to photoshop her picture to upset her. This cellar is cold, cold as ice.

Now before I leave and before you guys huddle up to decide what to say, think for yourself. Do you enjoy seeing other people torn apart because it's fun? Indifference of good people, is much worse than the evils of bad. "Oh lighten up, it's all fun!" What a bunch of bullshit. I'm not even going to address that reasoning.

And by the way, I would never want lumberjim to feel the pain I've felt. Maybe he already has, and if he did then I would never joke about it. Who would actually mean something as mean spirited as what he said? May the cosmos have pity on that person's soul.

I'm 18 years old, working full time at a grocery store trying to get into customer service management. Laugh at me, ridicule me, but then you're just proving my point of the cellar's mean spirited attitude. Aren't I just stumbling upon my own two feet on this path we call life, just like you.

Lumberjim made me cry for an hour that night. You can say all that shit about me as much as you want but as soon as you start messing with people I care about that's when the line is crossed. Especially when you come back for seconds after knowing full well the seriousness of my loss.

Sorry to go all emotional, but I'd trade everyone on this forum to have my sister back. Tell me you wouldn't do the same for your own beloved family member.
rkzenrage • Sep 27, 2007 1:17 am
Nope. I would not murder to have my own back if that is what you are talking about.
LJ is in pain and tries to share it every chance he gets by trying to hurt others, it is his hobby, we have just all learned to ignore it. I am sorry, for my part, that it hurt you.
However, if you are going to paint the entire board with that brush, I think you should leave.
The majority of the members here are wonderful, compassionate, caring people.
You are overreacting, and that is your choice... LJ cannot make you feel anything.

i cracked on his sister in a totally random fashion. just to interest him. i even said it right there in that post.

then he came back with she died in 9-11. which i assume is total BS, and even if it wasnt.....wtf? like i was supposed to know that...and like it would matter anyway. so....i crack back...and then this?

Lumberjim, be concerned but don't worry. In the linked thread, Jeboduuza didn't hesitate to call you a dickhead before any spurious reference to a (hypothetical) sister was made. After your rebuttal, the sympathy card was quickly played in Jeboduuza's next post and now follows this display of general distain designed to manipulate others into retaliation against you. This is neither in character for someone who's signature line is "I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it. -Voltaire" nor is it in character for for someone who has weathered a tragic loss due to violence after this amount of time.

My first impression in the linked thread was that Jeboduuza's claim was a retaliatory hoax. This farewell thread raises the possibility that Jeboduuza is a very sheltered and/or immature person for an alleged 18 year old.

I found Jeboduuza's departure to be appropriate in the instant of reading the initial post of this thread.

@ freshnesschronic: Jeboduuza posted that just 22 MINUTES after he played [post=388935]the sympathy card[/post]. Think - manipulation of the gullible.

Except that practically ever post after that was by someone telling LJ they thought he'd gone too far.

Jeb, sorry you haven't enjoyed the Cellar. Sorry to hear of your loss. Sorry that you're leaving. But...

Group think? No. What you have in the Cellar is a fairly sizeable little community of individuals. Those individuals occassionally break into little cliques and factions. Those cliques and factions are not set in stone, they shift and change with the wind. That's what happens in communities (if they're a real community that is).

You think we're all so scared of LJ? Oh come on. I am so tired of hearing that particular drum-beat. Yes, Lj can be a twat. Yes, he can often be found at the centre of a clique or group who are in friction with another clique, group, or individual. Is he somehow controlling the Cellar? no of course he fucking isn't.

Jeb, the Cellar is a robust place. I'm sorry you decided you can't stay here, but you may have made the right decision.

I'm guilty.

I thought LJ's initial post was mildly funny.

Jeb's response that "She's dead, you jerk." is the standard response (a lie) to a "mother joke." I didn't think it was true. Apparently neither did LJ.

Then LJ's comment about the mom after that made me snort. Most people would have let it drop at that point because of the very slim possibility that the sister really was dead, but LJ is confident in his BS detector. He figured it was a lie and he went for the big laugh. I found it to be quite funny in a shocking sort of way.

Maybe the sister did die in the WTC. If so, then what LJ said was terrible. But I think it's unlikely. This thread has me wondering though.
lumberjim • Sep 27, 2007 10:38 am
WHY is it terrible?

why would it be more terrible than if she had died in her bed of pnemonia? or ass cancer or something? because the media has brainwashed you into associating everything having anything to do with 9-11 as being sacred for some reason. you know it, and it still works on you. man....that's some powerful shit, that propaganda. you could probably convince a nation of people that it makes sense to invade another country.....oh wait..... come to think of it....some of you are probably wanting to invade me right about now? aren'tcha?

same here, except quite shocking. different senses of humor.
glatt;389650 wrote:

Here I have to agree with what lj said. if the sister did die in the WTC, then terrible. But if I put myself in J's shoes, and my sister who I know didn't die in WTC were the subject of the same remarks, I would still find them crude, offensive and unfunny. The actual facts about the sister doesn't change that for me.

Beats me, but it is. Otherwise the "She'd dead, you jerk!" response wouldn't have the power that it does. If it's a WTC death, then that just adds to the power. Probably because it's a national loss in addition to the personal one. It's almost sacred.

For the record, I don't think it's true, so it doesn't matter.
theotherguy • Sep 27, 2007 11:16 am
A buddy made a crack about my grandmother the other day. She died of cancer. Did I make a big deal about it? No. Did it make me think about her and miss her for a awhile? Sure. But my friend didn't know and it really didn't matter. HE WAS MAKING A JOKE! Dead grandmother aside, it was funny. There was no need for him to feel bad about it. My uncle was a paramedic who died in the line of duty. Does that make all paramedic jokes or uncle jokes off limits? No. My wife has died on the operating table. Twice. But both times was brought back (srsly) and, probably, will not live to get really old with me. Does that mean I don't joke with her about her dying so I can hook up with some hot nanny I would hire to take care of the kids? No. SHE STILL HAS A SENSE OF HUMOR!

Jeb - if you sister died, that is sad. Sorry for your loss, but if you really think that lj was making a real crack about your actual sister, you have some serious growing up to do. My guess is that he didn't even know you had a sister.

I am not defending lj here. He is a bid boy and can obviously do that on his own. I just think think you need some perspective.

I never said it was "OK." I was pointing out that it wasn't unprovoked. But yes, the "he started it" defense doesn't work.

To be forthright, I think part of the reason I didn't find LJ's initial comment all that shocking or bad is that when I was in college years ago, my buddies and I used to make "your mother" jokes to each other often. It was acceptable and didn't mean anything other than a joke. So to me, there's nothing bad in his joke. I also only found it mildly amusing for the same reason. I'd heard all the "your mother" jokes already. The second comment he made, after the WTC bit was something I'd never heard before, so that's probably why I found it to be shockingly funny. It was so over the top I had to laugh.

It seems clear that it had a greater impact on others here, and I accept that. I also wish I hadn't brought it up, because LJ is perfectly capable of defending himself, if he even wants to.

The Cellar has had a bit of a bad vibe lately, but I don't think this incident is a good example of it.
Clodfobble • Sep 27, 2007 1:56 pm
Initially, like glatt, I assumed that it was a lie--standard response to a "yo mama" joke. I myself have used this response, complete with believable tears and running out of the room, because it's funny as all shit to watch people backpedal in panic.

With the poem, and now this grand demonstration of a thread, I think it probably is true, but that doesn't really change the way things played out for me. Theotherguy said it all:

theotherguy wrote:
Jeb - if you sister died, that is sad. Sorry for your loss, but if you really think that lj was making a real crack about your actual sister, you have some serious growing up to do. My guess is that he didn't even know you had a sister.

It comes up again and again here that some people are allowed to be mean, and others are not. It's not true, because there is a difference in the intent of each person's meanness. Recently lumberjim went off on a tangent about me hypothetically pissing my pants. He wasn't being mean. He was being funny, and I laughed, and responded with more humor.* But I guaran-fucking-tee you if he'd made the crack to, say, skysidhe, all of a sudden half the people on here would be going on about how mean he is. The truth is, he teases people he likes, and he "gets away with it" because he's been here long enough that most of us know his personality.

But I don't think he really knows me since I am none of those things, but it does serve his purpose. :D

The FNG is standing far off the sidelines so he doesn't get splattered by all the flying shit (or errant footballs) that is/are being cast about.....

There seems to be a feeling of mutiny in the air.....Or internecine warfare....People choosing up sides, hoping to be on the winning one....Or not....(The silent majority is .....well, silent)

The phrase "mean spirited" being cast about......(must be demoncrats involved).....Name calling....Personalities being methodically ripped into shreds....champagne guzzling....(or bad wine).....Life's too short to drink bad wine.....

Is the Cellar going into the cellar?.....Or the tank?....Where's the Love?...What about the children?.....
A general feeling of meanness abounds.....Cliques?.....Tree houses?....
No kiss and makeup......Hate....anger....disappointment.....

Where are the funny, opinionated, well read, posters with witty repartee and thoughtful posts and discussions?....Where have they gone?....Is there really a bad vibe due to the autumnal equinox?

CCR Bad Moon Rising?

Stay tuned....

shit like this happens from time to time. it got pretty heated when dave left. again when hubris boy denounced the idiocy of the newer cellarites. the dust will settle a bit then a real world topic worth discussing will come along and draw everyone in so that we can hack each other up based on our opinions rather than our behaviors. good thing we're coming up on an election year...
HungLikeJesus • Sep 28, 2007 12:12 pm
lookout, I'm sure you're right. I'm allergic to dust, so I just might step outside a bit while it's settling.
lookout123 • Sep 28, 2007 12:14 pm
step outside ifyou must, but leave a window open so you can hear what we're talking about.

Why not help settle the dust, instead of leaving it to others?
BigV • Sep 28, 2007 2:39 pm
...by pissing on everything! Brilliant!

j.k.
lookout123 • Sep 28, 2007 2:41 pm
i had typed that exact same comment word for word but didn't post it because i figured no one else would appreciate it. Thanks BigV.
Cloud • Sep 28, 2007 2:44 pm
be a part of the problem, not the solution!

er, I mean . . .
lookout123 • Sep 28, 2007 2:45 pm
If you aren't part of the solution there is tons of money to be made in consulting.
Griff • Sep 28, 2007 2:51 pm
Nice.

How 'bout if you can't be part of the solution be the biggest baddest part of the problem.
lookout123 • Sep 28, 2007 2:53 pm
which political party is using that for their slogan now?
kerosene • Sep 28, 2007 3:12 pm
I think pretty much all of the major ones.
Griff • Sep 28, 2007 3:13 pm
The Church of the Militant Elvis Party, I believe.

The dust won't settle until we all stop dancing.
kerosene • Sep 28, 2007 3:36 pm
Does that go for all types or just disco?

If you're not part of the solution, you must be part of the precipitate.
lookout123 • Sep 28, 2007 4:45 pm
precipitate
dude, making up words doesn't make you seem smarter.
Cloud • Sep 28, 2007 6:23 pm
isn't precipitate the stuff that's left on the bottom of the beaker in chemistry?

;)

:lol2:

That's ok, V. I got it.

As geeky as I am, I can't believe I never heard that one before.

Particularly timely too, since I was just helping daughter #1 study for chemistry this week. I just went to share it with her and it turns out there's a poster of this joke in their chemistry class.

Ya know, I think Jeb's just too sensitive. Sure, some of you are complete assholes (currently focusing on Bad Joker Flint) :p, but hey, I'm still here...off 'n' on.
bluecuracao • Sep 29, 2007 5:55 pm
Hey, that must mean you fit in. :p

Some people do go over the top with their comments and I don't think it's cool.

I have learned to ignore most of the shitty comments in my time here though. I've discovered there's no point complaining because there are too many people willing to say it's ok.

It's not ok, but it's not going to stop. Get over it or leave. That's the short answer.

Chicks can get away with shit that you can't. It's like black people calling each other, you know, that word.
DanaC • Oct 2, 2007 4:49 pm
True dat.

I routinely refer to female friends as chicks or birds.....which I understand is quite sexist :P
