What, did the writers finally get that email that's been going around for 7 years or so?
lumberjim • Sep 26, 2007 8:10 pm

Season 2 of the West Wing was 2000-2001, roundabout seven years ago.
jinx • Sep 26, 2007 8:50 pm
Ah. Never watched it.
lumberjim • Sep 26, 2007 8:52 pm
oh, ...did jinx just get pwned by happy monkey?

i pretend to 'get' what pwned means. but...i really don't.

i hope i didnt pwn myself with my commentary. but i suspect that i did.

Who pwned who when I mention that jinx's link mentions the West Wing episode, indicating that neither of us read her link before making our respective posts?
jinx • Sep 26, 2007 8:56 pm
Fuck, now I gotta read it.... :sigh:
Undertoad • Sep 26, 2007 9:36 pm
I remember watching the episode when it aired, and I remember thinking that they'd neatly worked in the email which had just been going around.

Undertoad just pwned your whole discussion.

Teh Internet culture. Let me show you it.
Clodfobble • Sep 26, 2007 11:11 pm
As mentioned in the Snopes article, it first started circulating in May 2000 and was incorporated into the West Wing in October 2000.

My question is, did the writer who coordinated that scene admit that it wasn't original? A journalist was fired for claiming it as hers as late as August of 2003.
rkzenrage • Sep 26, 2007 11:24 pm
It is still factually accurate.
Biblical sodomy encompasses many things, not just same sex relations or anal sex.
So, how does someone today upgrade one part of one of 614 abominations to sin on a whim?
To me it is their sexual obsession and closet homoerotisim that they are unable to deal with coming out as anger and the need to punish others for what they want to do.
There is nothing biblical about it.
The removal of the crabcake at the end was hilarious, crab is also an abomination.

When my family and I were watching the DVD of this a few weeks ago, we absolutely had to go back and watch this scene like, five times. It is so perfectly executed, its absolutely exquisite in its complete and utter destruction of that harpy.
Clodfobble • Sep 26, 2007 11:43 pm
Well, see, Ibram? You do have some things in common with your parents! ;)
monster • Sep 26, 2007 11:44 pm
and so unfuckingrealistic.
Ibby • Sep 27, 2007 1:27 am
Well... my dad wasn't watching. Just me, momma, and my sister.

If he'd'a been there he wouldnt've been too keen on the rewatching i suppose.

Actually, it's older than 7 years. Peter McWilliams' fantastic book, "Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do: The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in Our Free Country", he wrote a chapter called...

WHAT JESUS AND THE BIBLE REALLY SAID ABOUT CONSENSUAL CRIMES

The book was published in 1990

I consider it to be the best book I've ever read....and I've read a lot.
