weight poll
Heavier than I have ever been !!!
if i was 225, id be rockin. im 277 at last weigh in.
I've been told I'm underweight at 5'8" 150lbs. I can't imagine putting anymore weight on as I have to work out hard to keep this. I'm that asshole that loses weight if I don't work out. Then I really am underweight at 130 lbs.
270 here , wish I was around 220 or sum such ,
Oh yeah , look out , BITE ME !!!!! ;)

You're not alone. I got really lazy last semester and lazier this summer and have lost weight and I weigh in at 137.8 lbs last nite. At 5'6" and a half can you believe I weighed almost 145 lbs 11 months ago? That was muscle, and I've lost it and lost weight but added fat. Dude you're hella skinny. Get your eat on.
believe it or not, i'm not skinny. athletic might be more appropriate. i've got a 6 pack, but i've got decent definition to my muscles. i run daily, play multiple soccer games each week, swim, and lift weights. i follow the abs diet from men's health just to keep the weight on. (i can drop 10 lbs in a month if i don't watch my diet and quit working out) i highly recommend it. it isn't a diet so much as a recipe book, and it is good stuff. absolutely nothing in there screams "flavorless cardboard".
i wasted too many years being drunk and not doing anything physical. ever since i sobered up i've had a blast just remembering that once upon a time i was a pretty damn good athlete. the best days are long past but i'll keep pushing my limits in the name of fun until my body gives out. gotta make up for lost time, you know.
Well no surprise to anyone who's seen my pic, I'm 50+ overweight. Not sure how much as my HM thinks scales are the tool of the devil and completely irrelevant if you're healthy.
I'm feeling motivated by the fact my skirt is falling down, to actually get going on the exercise front. HM is uber-fit, playing badminton 3-4 times a week and 5-a-side (soccer). Am going to remind him of his suggestion we join the loal health centre togther - I can do aqua-aerobics and yoga for a start.
I'm about 15lbs over. I try to do something every day but I don't. We do a lot of cardio at fencing kareoke, shuffle step, bear crawl, Groucho Marx walk, crab walk, and fencing footwork drills. Whatever I do has to be fun or it won't happen. Jamming people in the ribs with an epee is fun. P)
5'2'' /135lb average over the month [1.5 m/61kg]
I'd prefer to be about 125, where I was prepartum. After 5 years though, I've decided 135 is where I am meant to be, since I eat relatively healthy, and get regular exercise. Less than 125, and my husband starts telling me I'm getting too skinny.
I'm a trap door accident waiting to happen. I break chairs.
I am about 15+ of where I would like to be. 5' 8" at 180 is heavier than I want to be. Why 165 for me? I have no idea. I just remember what I looked like then and it was pretty good. If I would just exercise it would fall off, but I can't seem to get started again. I used to run 4 times a week, use the elliptical, and do some push-ups and sit-ups. Now, I just to curls with a wine glass in my hand. I am chalking it up to stress.
I'm underweight, but I've been this way my whole life. Which means I'm right where I am supposed to be. I'm 6' 2" and around 155 or so. But that doesn't mean I'm in great shape. I sit at a desk all day long and am soft.
I was swimming over the summer, and it was the first time in decades that I was getting regular exercise. I really liked it. I felt so much healthier. Had more energy during the day. It was an early morning swim in an outdoor pool. I was going three times a week for half an hour of swimming laps. Really nice. Fun even.
The pool is closed now, and I'm not sure what to do. I'd like to find a new exercise routine. The swimming was perfect because it fit right into my schedule and I don't like getting all hot and sweaty. I hate running/jogging. Maybe going for an early morning bike ride. It's so dark though. I need something.
glatt, look up local
Master's swimming groups in your area.
The one here meets in the summer for swims like you did this summer, and then the rest of the year meets at a local high school pool in the mornings. Not just for triathletes or competitive swimmers! Really neat group of people!!
I usually vacillate between slightly under and slightly over weight.
Which translates to about two clothes sizes. When I first started posting on the cellar i was underweight (size 8-10 UK, weighed about 8 1/2 stone) then last year I had gone up to slightly overweight (just about fit a size 14, weighed approx 10 1/2 stone). Now I am back to a few pounds above my ideal weight (size 10, weigh 9 1/2 stone).
I was right on target, but I'll be gaining a good 40 pounds in the next seven months. Hopefully I can take it back off again in the seven months or so after that.
I 'think' I could stand to lose 10 lbs. Anyway, I could be in better shape. I wear a size 9 of which is only found in junior sizes. Gloria Vanderbuilt pants in size 10 are the only misses sizes that fit real nice and probably Levi's which I can't afford or refuse to afford. I don't really appreciate having to wear a belt to keep my pants up. How to lose that last 10 lbs! Seems like it's my friend for life now.
My mom say, "Oh your just getting older". I'm thinking," Why does older have to mean fatter and thicker?"
I was underweight at 100-105, but then we quit smoking again and joined a gym back in March. Now I'm 110-115 and up a size in jeans (2L), and 2 sizes in shirts (although that might not be from the working out ;)).
When I was 12 I tried on my mother's wedding dress and it was too small for me ( I was a competitive XC skier at the time, pretty darn fit) - she has put on enough weight over the years to give herself diabetes. I am NOT going there. :headshake
hmm. I just realised 'stones' probably won't mean much to you.
Right now I'm about 133 lbs. When I was underweight I was 119 pounds (actually I went down to about 110 lbs briefly). When I was overweight I was about 150lbs.
Given my height I reckon 133 lbs is as near my ideal weight as makes no difference. But...what i ain't is toned.

I agree.! Getting older dosn't mean women need to let themselves go as if it is some right of passage. Diabetes is a problem these days and it dosn't take much for a small framed women to be overweight too. *nod*
glatt, aren't there gym's with indoor pools in your area? If you liked swimming and it helped you feel fitter and better, it is worth the $25/month (if your budget allows) to go.
For an American, I'm underweight. For a Colorado-an, I'm about right. For a Boulder-ite, I'm overweight and out of shape (which is why I don't live in Boulder).
[off topic] I just want to point out that women's clothing use crazy sizing. For men, pants sizes (in the US) are waist inch x length inch (e.g. 32x34). When we were in Germany last month and my wife's luggage didn't arrive we went to the store to get her some clothes to carry over for a few days. We had a heck of a time trying to figure out the right sizes for her.
Carry on. [/OT]
I think you are also too intelligent to be a Boulder-ite.
glatt, aren't there gym's with indoor pools in your area? If you liked swimming and it helped you feel fitter and better, it is worth the $25/month (if your budget allows) to go.
Yes. There are. I just spent my lunch hour looking them up. I really liked the outdoor pool, and part of what I liked so much was that it's nestled in the woods in a quiet neighborhood, so you would hear the birds chirping and watch the sun rising as you were catching your breath after swimming laps.
But you are right, the indoor pools are not that expensive. I should go check one out and see what they are like for an early bird swim. How crowded, etc. If I like them, I can join for $250 a year, or pay $4 a visit.
I'm underweight/scrawny and have the same problem with Fresh and Lookout that I lose weight when I stop working out and I haven't really be consistent with working out since football ended senior year in high school.
I am still very athletic just that my stamina sucks and I don't have that extra edge I had when I was in my prime.
I'm about 5'11'' and probably 140 lbs.
I am morbidly obese...whoohoo! I'm working on it though...srsly.
Exactly why I didn't recommend the Y or some such LJ. I've done that way back when. Those old people can be mean!!!
If you are just interested in swimming, the master's group fee here (obviously might be different elsewhere) is only $100 a year. That gets you all the swimming in the summer and winter, MWF and Sats.
Granted, you don't have the flexability of a gym, but it is cheaper. Just a thought.
Exactly why I didn't recommend the Y or some such LJ. I've done that way back when. Those old people can be mean!!!
that is why i make sure i strike first. I walk in with my shaved head, couple of tattoos, and a neon pink banana hammock. i gently ease into the water then backstroke over to the oldest man i can find and ask him if he's a top or bottom.
miraculously, i end up with my very own lane.
I go to the Y just up the street from our apartment...Mrs. Syc used to be the membership director there, her sister worked there over the summer and we know a lot of the staff that's currently there. It's frequented by a pretty good mix of decent people, though some folks can be retarded, primarily the teenagers. I'm not sure it's really worth $75 a month, but I try to get my money's worth out of it. I particularly like the indoor pool and track, which is where I spend most of my time.
beware geriatric soup
Well, there was kid vomit/poop soup in the outdoor pool, so what you gonna do? Swim with your mouth closed like that guy in the IotD about the Palestinian sewage pond flood.
My norm, is 5'4 and 121...thats what I sit at all year around.
My bodyfat sits at 18% and BMI is 20.
Currently, I am 110 lbs, but will get back to normal pretty quickly.
I go to the yuppie gym, with the pretty people, who care more about the fact that they may sweat whilst working out, than whether they are actually using the equipment correctly.
I sweat, I swear and I sing really badly to my iPod :)
Go early afternoon to avoid the geriatric soup -they're all taking naps then. I miss diving into the outdoor pool, though -the indoor is 5' deep max. And I wish they wouldn't label one of the lanes as "floaters".
Swimming regularly makes a huge difference to your overall fitness and energy levels.
170 lb, would like to be nearer 140, but I think that's pretty unrealistic as I'm very well muscled (built like a brick shithouse is another way of putting it) and I seem set to stay this weight -I never gain any, but any I lose goes straight back on the minute I blink. Still, I can dream.... At least people are suprised when they find out how much I weigh -I guess I don't look it.
this would probably be my ultimate goal.
i'd say about 5'9", 150lbs for me? somethin' like that. But I'm getting a bit of a gut. and my thighs are too big. if i wasnt so lazy i'd work out but, mneh.
Pretty happy with my weight, these days: 5'6" 123 lbs.
I use to be about 60 lbs heavier, but have gradually lost the weight just though changing my eating habits and level of activity.
I am at 142 and go to the gym on a regular basis. If I didn't go to the gym I would be around 160-170, blimp size. Sugar is my downfall. The more I eat the more I want...vicious cycle
i'm stalled at 277. i keep working out, but have been less than religious about my diet.
About 5' 10" and 255. Damn getting old sucks. But VA gave me new breathing meds and am better. Firewood has been a work out.
i'm stalled at 277. i keep working out, but have been less than religious about my diet.
Yes, but now it's 277 lb of solid muscle.
I've been able to weigh myself this weekend. Since leaving Leicester at end of July I've lost nearly a stone and a half (ETA I've actually lost 19lbs, but a stone and a half is 21lbs and is a bigger milestone for a Brit). I am so pleased - I knew I was losing it, but it's more than I expected.
Also Mum forced me into letting her buy me a new pair of trousers - honestly, I have been refusing since Thursday. I think it was my comedy stories about my trousers falling down in Woolwich. Anyway, I found I have dropped 2 dress sizes, which pleases me even more. One more size and I go get my suitcase down from the loft with all the decent clothes I bought last time I was that size and barely wore!
Yey! Go Sundae! Go Sundae! *dances*
5'7, 135 lbs. on a good week when I eat.
I don't know what it is that I'm doing, but I would like to gain a little weight. I look like a hungry dog.
Wooo Hooo SG!!!!!
Two dress sizes is great!
awesome, SG. The yoga'll be a doddle soon!
I'm 181 cm and 61 kgs (feels superior for using metric ... )
Thats 5' 11" and 135 pounds.
Please send food.
I've been lifting weights and have put on 4kg, 10lbs in the last year. I'm fairly well toned but have virtually no fat tissue at all. Always been that way. I do well in summer but winter is terrible. So cold, so very cold...
From figures given in this thread:
The scarecrow club :
Lookout123 .............5'8, 150lbs BMI 22.8 (only listed because of comments in your post)
Mockingbird .............5'7, 135lbs BMI 21.1 (scraping in)
Glatt ......................6'2, 155lbs BMI 19.9 (not thin, just tall for his weight)
Piercehawkeye .........5'11, 140lbs BMI 19.5 (you will live long)
ZenGum .................5'11, 135lbs BMI 18.8 (washboard abs? ha! washboard RIBS)
I hope these rankings don't give anyone any grief or cause any body image disorders. Hugs to you all. Ouch, watch my shoulderblades, will you? :)
"Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel UGLY."
those bmi's are full of shit.
i'd have to be 234 to be at 30% bmi....obese. if i was 230, your wife would leave you for me.
im morbidly obese at 277? kiss my ass. am not.
my head weighs 40 lbs alone!
My dowas weigh 40lbs each :(
Strictly speaking, if going off that list, I rank as a scarecrow: Though I didn't post my height originally..I'm 5ft 7 (and 3/4) inches and 133lbs.
But, I don't look like a scare crow. I wouldn't say I am thin, but slim. And I still get a little tum overhang from too many beers:P
My dowas weigh 40lbs each
Least you gots dowas! :P
Eh, I think they're overrated sometimes. I'd like my jackets to lay a little flatter, and not have to worry about that annoying space on button-up shirts.
My ex used to say, if we ever had kids, we'd better bottle feed em to save em from starvation.:P
lol
But if you ever to become preg, voila! dowas.
That's what I said! *grins*
how would you weigh someone's head...if you wanted to go about it. short of weighing, beheading and re-weighing? i'd truly like to know how much mine weighs. and i think laying down on my side and resting it on a scale won't be all that accurate. gravitational pull?
I think it'd be somewhat accurate...do it...
isn't any weight the product of mass and gravity?
My ex used to say, if we ever had kids, we'd better bottle feed em to save em from starvation.:P
I wonder if comments like this helped him earn the status of "ex".
I think it'd be somewhat accurate...do it...
stop picturing that. right now. im not doing it
OK, fine.
Monkeyboy claims that the rest of your body will exert some force on the scale. I can see that. But I still think it wouldn't be far off the mark.
how would you weigh someone's head...if you wanted to go about it. short of weighing, beheading and re-weighing?

Agreed, it is quite inefficient. Why weigh, behead, and weigh again, when you could just behead and weigh the head? :behead:
To be charitable, maybe Bluecuracao was suggesting that you do the lie-down-with-your-head-on-the-scales technique. This would give a pretty close reading, if the scales are pretty thin and sit on the floor. Although it raises the question of how much neck should be counted as "head". (cue Linda Lovelace reference :sick2: closest thing to a blowjob smilie I could find ).
PS Yes BMI shouldn't be taken too seriously. It makes no allowance for whether the person is 230 pounds of flabby fat or 230 pounds of steely muscle. But it is a starting guide to comparing people's height/weight ratios.
To be charitable, maybe Bluecuracao was suggesting that you do the lie-down-with-your-head-on-the-scales technique.
You're absolutely right, that's exactly what I was thinking.
The average head is about 8 lbs total or something, isn't it?

*chuckles* nah. It was in humour and never meant cruelly.
awww c'mon LJ, do it, do it, do it!!!!
And Jinx, take pics!
I bet his head doesn't weigh as much as he thinks it does. lol

Agreed. 40 pounds ... 18kg ... surely not. mediocre "big head" comments aside.
Given that the human body has slightly less density than water, this gives us various ways to approximate the weight of various parts based on their volume.
Easiest is to find a container of water that is about the same size as the body part, in this case, LJ's head. I'm thinking of 4 liter (roughly, gallon) containers as being pretty close to a human head. So we are looking at 4 or 5 kilograms, 10 to 12 pounds.
Also consider that typical human brain capacity is about 1300 to 1400 ccs, 1.3 to 1.4 liters. Roughly triple that (since lots of the head isn't brain) and again we are approaching 4 liters, 4 kilograms, 10 pounds.
If we want to go to greater lengths we could do an Archimedes type measurement. LJ gets into a large bath with just his head above the water, marks water level, submerges head, marks water level, calculates volume displaced, multiply by density of body... but then we have to allow for the hollow places in the head: mouth, sinus, ears etc.
I guess the scales thing would be easier. Please do it LJ, now I am itching to know.
lol...yes well, for one thing, I need to see pics of him with his head on the scales.
For another, I still think it'll be fairly light on.
(snip)
... your wife would leave you for me.

my head weighs 40 lbs alone!
It has just occurred to me, in the context of this extremely selective quotation (apologies LJ), that we are all making a presumption about which "head" LJ was referring to.
That's twice I've needed a big dick smilie.
I'd just like to add that I'm not normally so focused on penis size. Its just been coming up. so to speak.
ok, I need to confirm that I was talking about the head on his shoulders. lol I definitely have not been spending time thinking of jimbo's wang on the scales.
For the record, Dana looks like an athlete, not scarecrow skinny, and no sign of an overhang that I was aware of.
ok, I need to confirm that I was talking about the head on his shoulders. lol I definitely have not been spending time thinking of jimbo's wang on the scales.
you lie........
you got a visual while you typed your previous post.....and if you didn't, you have one now....
ahuh...and would you like me to describe it?
erm.....noooo. not so much.
I'd love to share ducksy, but I'll let jimbo keep his dignity instead. :alien:
Whats with you and that friggen smiley?
Whats with you and that friggen smiley?
I like it. :alien:
Its not a smiley, its her picture! Look at her username, Aliantha. One step off Alientha! Clearly she is an extra-terrestrial. Cool.
I for one welcome our new overlords. :welcome:
You're just afraid we're going to eat you Zen.
You're just afraid we're going to eat you Zen.
Exactly. Another advantage of being so thin. What are you gonna do, feast on the well-built LJ, or pick over my stringy bones?
I'll even help round up the "prime eaters" if you like. :borg:
(It was either interpret it this way or start using our new blowjob smilies ... :bj4: :bj3: :bj: :bj2: .... and why would I be afraid of that? Actually, didn't want to get TOO personal.)
well it's always good to get in with the new overlords, regardless of how you do it.
Some people get very personal on this site. Have you not visited the nsfw threads yet?

Indeed, "some people" do. I try to find my own standards, I try not to offend people, unless it is on purpose and that is very rare.
I see a difference between talking about blowjobs in the abstract, and suggesting to a specific person that they are offering me one.
(on the other hand, I did raise the topic of LJ's penis size, but it was meant in a flattering way).
What is it with you and eating folks, Ali?
I'm not turning my back on you when utensils are around.
I think I'm hungry.
Thus returning beautifully to the thread topic: how is your body shape?
Poetry.
plenty of curves. lol maybe not quite as many as jimbo though.

It might be easier to just lay on a table with the head hanging off the side and the neck in a completely relaxed mode and limp. Place an electronic scale under the head and lift it till it is in a completely neutral position in line with the neck. That should give you a fairly close estimate.
Or you could look here:

And then we have the complete in depth discussion by people who have already started thinking about the issue:
http://ask.metafilter.com/36836/Head-WeightI'm in the 50+ lbs overweight club, in spite of eating pretty normally, and walking 2.5 miles a day (to and from work)
I eat pretty normally too.....

Great Link Merc.
I had realized that decapitation won't work because the blood loss would reduce the weight.
I think they have the solution:
"I think the solution probably involves being hung by your heels from a spring-scale with your head in a vat of liquefied heads to achieve neutral head buoyancy, and then subtracting the reading on the spring-scale from the known weight of your entire body." (from Dersins, user at the site Merc links to).
Brilliant! And I reckon we can get a grant to do it, and pass it off as performance art!
Although I am still concerned about the empty spaces in your mouth, nostrils, and ears. So you'd have to keep your mouth open in the vat of liquefied heads and let all that gooey goodness flow up your nose and into your ears...
Hope no one's eating as they read this. :vomitblu:
LJ, please do the scale thing. I
do have a big vat of liquefied heads, but I don't have a spring scale. You're my only hope...
I just realized decapitation could work, provided you froze the subject to death (while lying down so as a reasonable amount of blood remains in the head) then removed the head and weighed it, including the frozen blood.

OK, I've had my suspicions for a couple of days now, but it's confirmed.
You are a sicko. :alien:
sorry....but the scale i use is at the gym. i'm not trying to lie down on that floor, thankyouverymuch. and not just because people would think i'm a looney.

All in fun.
OK, I just added "Weight of a human head" to the list of potential science fair projects for the kids :D

Thanks, LJ, you have just made the mental image at least three times funnier.
I can imagine the conversations afterwards:
"So I'd just got out of the shower, right, and I went over to weigh myself, and there's this FREAK, right, laying on the ground with his head on the scales! I mean even without the tinea and stuff, what the hell is he trying to do? Look up my towel? What???"
Ok, LJ, I'll let you off ... but surely, sometime, you will visit a friend who has a set of scales and a digital camera... pleeeeeaaaaaassseeeeeeee?
Of course, if you do dare to do it at the gym ... legend!
OK, I just added "Weight of a human head" to the list of potential science fair projects for the kids :D
Ok but for pity's sake don't let them read the techniques discussed here ... kids being kids, you know ...:behead:
Dude, you have me rolling in the aisles. I missed the liquified head post before... I am so letting them read it. What's the betting they suggest suspending the 5yo with his head in a vat of ketchup? I might suggest they add some noodles.

Just a thought: would a person float in ketchup? Project number two...
I would have responded earlier- but there was a small draft and I blew away.

Crikey. What happened, some sicko cut off your 40 pound head and drop it into a vat of frozen ketchup and noodles or something?
How tall are you?
damn, I thought I had the lowest BMI in the cellar. You're a serious rival. And ... there can be .... only one...
5 and 2.....Zen.Someone told me that I look like I'm only about 5 though...(yesterday morning)....They had just noticed that I'm "really damb short". Must be the dumpy thick clothes......

My BMI is apparently 20.4 which puts me in the low end of healthy. I'm not sure what that really means though....
those bmi's are full of shit.
i'd have to be 234 to be at 30% bmi....obese. if i was 230, your wife would leave you for me.
im morbidly obese at 277? kiss my ass. am not.
my head weighs 40 lbs alone!
I would have to be 8'2" to be 20 bmi according to that last link. it says i'm 35.6% i should be dead.
My mom deep fried my head in papers and wrapped it with pork, cabbage, and carrots. Cicero Lumpia. (loompia) I bet you have that in Japan even.
Did she leave it in
a smoker?

BMI isn't a percentage. It is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height.
There are adjustments for non-metric units, wikipedia explains it well.
I'm just using it to compare the thinness of various people of different heights. I don't advocate BMI scores as a goal or as a very reliable predictor of health. It all depends on whether your weight is muscle or flab. Reading your posts, it sounds like you're mostly muscle.
SNIP

in PAPERS?
Please tell me that is a typo. Peppers? Capers? The New York Times? Tally-hos? What?

reading
my posts, you'd think i had a cock made out of pure gold, and farted diamond dust.
but, srsly..... i'm not
mostly muscle.....well....depends on what percentage you need for a majority, i guess.... but, damn. i'm not morbidly obese, either.

Well that would explain why the head weighs 40 pounds, then.

I think majority is anything over 50% ... but I don't think that's really the issue here. If you're happy, and your doctor isn't constantly freaking out, then why worry?
Further thoughts on how to weigh your head:
Hanging by the heels over a vat of liquefied heads would be inaccurate. The inverted position would cause an excessive amount of blood to flow to your head and increase its weight. Therefore, it would be better to float in a vat of liquefied bodies, with some kind of head-harness (a strap under the chin should do it, but a meat-hook up each nostril sounds much more interesting  ) lifting your head out of the goop. Connect said harness to a spring scale and, voila! The (calibrated for apparatus weight) reading on the scale = the weight of your head. You don't even need to worry about keeping your mouth open. The only issue left is where to draw the line between head and neck.
And monster, for the kids' science project, you could replace the liquefied bodies with a water based liquid with the correct density. That becomes step one, calculate your density. First, weigh yourself, and then use a regular shaped bath to calculate your displacement. Do the maths. Then create a solution with the appropriate density. Start with water, and add other chemicals (I have no idea what - ask a chemistry major) to decrease the density as appropriate.
Still, the idea of being suspended by the heels over a vat of liquefied heads ... that is ART... and a smiley we need, but probably won't find.
Mine appears to be 19.9 (???)
My husbands shows as 25, but he is nowhere near overweight...muscular. Hmm.
Does this mean I need to work out more?
35.1 and there is no denying I'm obese
There is a higher category of morbidly obese, but Cicero's link doesn't give that - I may just be slipping under the radar there.

nahh,
for what BMI is worth you're both in the healthy range.
But, once again, these numbers are a generalization, and must be taken in context of everything else : % of fat/muscle, blood pressure, resting heart rate, etc etc.
If you do exercise, I guess you'd be aiming at building up, not reducing. Meh, you're doing fine. Watch some TV.
According to that chart, I am fat. I don't really think I look fat. I hate that chart. However, it did inspire me to start exercising this morning.

Damn, why didn't I think of this when it first came up?

I'm not so sure I buy into the BMI thing completely. Right now I'm 24.9 (pushing overweight according to standard) and Case is still about 19.9, yet we are both in great shape. She's prob in even better shape than when the quote above was written, and I'm still about 6'1/189 lbs. I think bodyfat percentage is a better indicator even though it's harder to calculate. When I was body building a few years ago I was 6'1/235 with bodyfat % ranging from 9%-13% and even though I had a six pack when at the 9% number, my BMI was 31(obese). I will say though, that my joints hurt more, my blood pressure was a little higher, and I didn't feel nearly as healthy as I do now.
0n 9/24, I started at 34 BMI. I am now down to 31 BMI as of last Wednesday. That equals to 17.6 pounds lost. I won't know if it has gone down any more until Wednesday.
Yay me.:jig:
I don't trust the BMI numbers at all. Besides, they keep changing what is healthy and what isn't. I am the right weight for my height and my BMI says I am overweight. I don't carry extra "flab" as people say but am not tone like an athlete either. As long as I feel healthy, I give up on those things.

yay you. your asshole ex has no idea what he's gonna miss.......
Way to go! Monster, get on chat girl!!
Sure he does, he's seen me about 20 lbs lighter than I am now :D

Awesome! That is a lot of progress. Way to go!
Thanks Everyone! I actually gained a little bit this week, but I think it is from all the stress I have been having. No big deal. It'll drop next week :)
185 +/- 10
on nothing but truck stop slop
this is DOWN from 235 last fall
I am where my doctor tells me to keep myself
Today is No Punctuation Day
I weighed myself this morning and hav lost a few pounds. Am now 124 lbs.
OK, I just added "Weight of a human head" to the list of potential science fair projects for the kids :D
Hebe is just completing the project of estimating the weight of her own head (Science Fair is Thursday).
According to
This Webpage, you're looking at 8% of the whole body mass.
She tried various methods and the closest estimate was weighing a (dead and plucked) chicken approximately the same size as her head.
Will zengum ever come back to us?
Hey...I have some news. I've lost weight. I know this because this morning, my pants fell down. I am going to need a belt soon, or some new pants! :D
Excellent. Can we see the video? ;)
lol...nope. I didn't tape it.
I just made my %10 goal at Weight Watchers in our 'at work' program. Unfortunately, it might shut down due to low turnout.
I have bought a new scale and I'm ready to go it alone if necessary.

YAY!!!!!!!!!
10% is a huge amount - and the bigger you are, the more you have lost.
That's a great achievement Rich. Sorry to hear you've lost your real life support.
I know it's not quite the same as WW, but you're not alone with us here.
If you want to start another weight loss thread with a weekly weigh in, I'll be there. Seriously - I'll do anything I can to help - I lost my way over the last 3 weeks but I am committed to losing at least another 4 stone = 56lbs
I'm willing to take (clothed) pictures every week if it helps!
You go guy - I
know how hard it is, I'm going through it.
You have my full respect.

One of the news programs just did a special about a lady who hated going to the group thing and went to the On-line WW exclusively. She lost over 100 pounds that way. So there is still hope for group support and in fact you may find a message board that is a significantly larger group.
I did a search and this is the news story. It was on CNN.

That's cruel.

That's what I am doing. As of my weigh in least week, I have lost a total of 39 pounds since September. Personally, I couldn't even think about the idea of someone else weighing me and seeing it if I go up a little or maintain. Plus, it is a lot easier to be honest with myself if no one else is seeing it. good luck!

Out-fuckin-standing! Well done bbro. Oh and well done Rich as well. I think successfully losing weight is one of the most impressive things a person can achieve. Anyone who thinks it's easy is sorely mistaken. The self-discipline needed for weight loss, regardless of what method you use, is a serious commitment.
Thanks Dana! I probably would have lost more if I had been completely on plan the whole time, but meh, I am human. As long as I can keep it off, I will be happy. Now I just have to include exercise. Waiting for approval from insurance for inserts for my flat feet.
