My car is crying . . .

okay, leaking. An odorless, colorless fluid (aka water, or something water-like) from under the engine.

Is it . . . leaking from the radiator? Not sure what else it might be. It's not overheating or anything.
lumberjim • Sep 11, 2007 8:23 pm
how much of this fluid?
Cloud • Sep 11, 2007 8:25 pm
A small puddle, perhaps half a cup. I saw it leaking, so I don't know if it continue to leak or what.

Air conditioning on before you noticed it?
Cloud • Sep 11, 2007 8:48 pm
er, on? Yeah, I run the ac.
Undertoad • Sep 11, 2007 8:51 pm
All air conditioning, including that on cars, produces condensation. In a car this condensation drips down constantly, but you only notice it once in a while.
Cloud • Sep 11, 2007 8:53 pm
Well, that sounds benign.

It's not crying. It's sweating!
Weird Harold • Sep 11, 2007 9:06 pm
The air conditioner also runs whenever you you use your defrost, even if it is blowing hot air. This keeps the compressor lubed during the winter.

lubed

I agree - odorless, colorless - the a/c. Anything else would have some color/smell/viscosity to it.
Cloud • Sep 11, 2007 9:37 pm
so . . . I don't have to get it checked out?
zippyt • Sep 11, 2007 9:45 pm
sound like condensation from the AC to me ,
glatt • Sep 11, 2007 11:32 pm
AC was my first thought too. Seems to be a consensus here.

I'd ignore it if it was my car. This time.

Get yourself some newspaper.
Lay it out on the driveway.
Park the car over it.
Let the car sit overnight.
If it is still leaking, it'll show on the paper.
It probably is condensation.
If you're still unsure, take the paper to a REPUTABLE mechanic who can tell you.
The reason I say "REPUTABLE" is that some would claim it's transmission fluid, claiming that you need a whole new transmission.
Or some such other thing.

When was the last time you saw the cat?
Cloud • Sep 12, 2007 1:23 am
thanks, people! :heartpump I freak out about car stuff.

P.S. And the cats are fine! :)

Obviously, you need to have LJ set you up with a new car.

I used to get freaked out about car stuff... until I got ripped off. Now I learn everything I can and refuse to be treated as ignorant just because I have a (healthy) rack.

Crimson Ghost is right on with what you should do to ease your mind or determine whether there is a legitimate problem.
