I believe that US Americans...
... need to make sure their daughters go to class.

I saw this coupla days ago. Really, really, really stupid. And paving a new way for blonde jokes. But she looky good, though.
Ah, I dropped the ball.
What do you believe US Americans?
What do you believe US Americans?
When I saw this the other day, I was thinking about what I might say in her place. Nothing that stupid, but I'd have a hard time saying anything that might sound inspirational.
I'd say something like: They can't find the US on the map simply because they don't care. They don't see the point of learning it. In their lives, they don't need to know, and they have no curiosity about it.
I know what you mean, Glatt. A question like that on the fly? Saying things like you said, like i might say, is certainly not what they're looking for. It's a strange question, and one hard to find a diplomatic answer for.
I saw a clip of some morning show where they asked her a question, might have been about global warming, where she was prepared with an answer, but I thought it was cool they were helping her out of her embarrassment. She said on the show how hard it was to be on TV after saying something so stupid that became a big news item. So, I give her credit for that.
It was a bad question, but you could see her coaching coming out. You don't have to know anything but hit a few buzz words and you'll win. I'm just really anti-pageant. I don't see any redeeming values in the things.
you could see her coaching coming out.
That's an understatement.:)

lol.
I was trying to be nice (for once--practicing my diplomacy) so I left this off earlier, but I was thinking: youse guys could surely find something to stick in her mouth so you didn't have to have a conversation with her.
When you ask for directions with a map, people are willing to help you.
When you ask for directions with a globe....That's a whole 'nother story.

I would have been ready for this question; I was asked to write a two page paper for Comparative Non-Western Environments on just this very topic. Reason US Americans can't find US on a map? They don't teach kids geography anymore. How can US American kids possibly know something that isn't spoon fed them?
I've actually often considered the reason the average US citizen is behind the rest of the western world in geography, and I actually have a little theory. I think the reason your average westerner is more knowledgeable than we, is from necessity. Many americans have never left their country because they never have to, in fact it's a bit of a hassle.
We can't hop on the chunnel and arrive in a different country, little hop flights from city to city for some euros, these things are foreign to us. Most americans live their whole lives never leaving the country, in fact many don't leave their state. In addition, most western media is modeled after the US's and a great many people world wide speak english, so in the end, we're not forced to confront other societies or know where they're from. Whether good or bad, I think our geographic and cultural isolation has created a situation where one never NEEDS to know where one is on a globe, because just about everyone they meet is from their country or even state.
O.M.G. I'm really amazed that she couldn't find a better answer than 'ummmm...'.
It's really quite disappointing as a woman to know that nothing has really changed as far as beauty pagents are concerned. I suppose on the other hand though, there are some pretty smart cookies out there too.
It really sux that some women have so many gifts, and some of us have so few.

I never understood that either. It is a cop-out. Most of what I know I learned on my own.
School does not teach geography, get your kid a National Geographic subscription... I got my own at 13. People need to take their lives into their own hands.
Rkzenrage, I think you have a great point and then with the fact that most world events revolve around the US just adds to that. And maybe America's lack of interest in world events hurt as well.
The reason American kids don't know their geography is that you guys decided to have a 'quiet' Empire instead of an overt one :P During the hey-day of the British Empire (and even into the 50s) British Schoolchildren were bombarded with maps and globes showing the extent of British influence/power. It was part of the Imperial doctrination that our schoolchildren were routinely treated to.

Most likely she knew her answer was embarrassing. But she also displayed what is required in her position. Pretend it was a good answer. She did not admit in stature what she probably knew was a bad answer. That is what she is supposed to do.
She didn't give an answer.
That's okay, neither did tw:P
She didn't give an answer.
Maybe not to you who is looking down your nose at her. She replied. Therefore she gave an answer. And she did what 'professionals beauty queens' do: don't let them see you sweat.
She replied. Therefore she gave an answer.
not only that, but she did it without the tiniest flicker of emotion. She did you proud, man.
:D
not only that, but she did it without the tiniest flicker of emotion.
By emotion, if you mean meltdown, well, she displayed emotion. Maybe described as defiant. Unlike children, she did not let her emotion makes her decisions. Whereas those who are children might have let emotions create panic, hear things that don't exist, or some other childish response. Instead, she subserviented her emotions to portray the necessary image. That’s what adults do – use emotion as a tool. Not used emotions to make decisions. Her image for those who need to see messages in emotions, if I recall, had her hands on her hips. Defiant.
OMG! tw is in LOVE!
And with a twerp!!!!
excuse me whilst I go laugh myself into a dither...oh, my, my sides hurt from laughing....
TW---felled by a beauty queen!
And to think--i used to believe I had to consider this guy!
hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
OMG! tw is in LOVE!
And with a twerp!!!!
It amazes me how some see things that were never posted. Love? The only thing I see is maybe a good lay. Where is love even implied? Apparently yesman065 is not the only one with reality problems.
"Jane - I'm gay ..."
Apparently yesman065 is not the only one with reality problems
...the one who smelt it dealt it.....
:p
I'm not looking down my nose at her (in particular). I think the whole idea of beauty contests is ridiculous. Even more so when they try and make them out to be more than they are.
Very few of the women in those competitions are 'complete' women even though that's what they're marketed as.

Doesn't matter, tho. She won't notice and he won't care.
it's Bliss!
:heartpump
don't feel bad, tw. a LOT of men fall for the prom queen.

Is increasing disinterest in Miss America also found in other beauty contests at all levels?
It's pretty tough for the swimsuit competition to compete with internet porn.
Depends on the audience. I have never liked pageants. MomWolf, however, gets very excited around pageant time, makes endless lists of the candidates on their initial walk on the runway, and claims an 80% success rate at predicting the five finalists.
No consistent statistics have been kept related to her pageant acumen, and I actually do not care to challenge her on it because she's at least having some fun.

I don't know. I'm not interested enough to find out.
Outstanding.
Wow. That's the first positive thing you've posted to me or about me. Thanks.
I don't know. I'm not interested enough to find out.
Miss America got upset when a college professor was able to predict the winner simply from physical dimensions. The pagent stopped providing some of that data. But the damage was done. Proven was what mattered. His data did not include anything related to brain size or percentages of gray and white matter.
