Creepy Sad Clown Lady

My dad is an antique dealer so he spends a lot of time at auctions and at the end of the auction they have what we like to call "boxes-o-crap" which is like an adult version of the "Suprise!" bag that they have at carnivals full of cheap knockoff toys that break after one use, and of course that one really cool thing that the kid you don't really like ended up getting instead of you. Ahem. Sometimes these "boxes-o-crap" have one itty bitty thing my dad wants or needs for his business, and then we end up with a box of crap to get rid of...I pick through these boxes every so often cause they're just so strange, especially at estate sales. In one of the more recent boxes...I found a painting which I love dearly!

Problem is, I want to know if there are more like her out there...is she one of a set? Are there similar paintings done by the same artist? Can I get more? Problem is...I can't find anything about it...This is where you guys come in...hopefully...anyone recognize it?

At the bottom it says: 2708 Petite Rose - Artist: Erha

My second dorm mate was a big fan of those back in the 80s, and had a few of them up when I moved in.

Surely this is a poster and not a painting

It's like Early American Anime. Very cool!

I had a poster like this as a kid. It wasn't a clown, but the style looked very similar. I don't know where it came from, though.

Google is no help, first link was to this thread! I think I've seen the style too, but I don't know where.

The Big-eyed Waif style of painting is best exemplified by the work of Walter Keene.

I worked for a woman who had an original Keene in her living room. She was very excited when I correctly identified it. What I never told her was that I knew what it was because I despise the style so much. Keene's waifs were a lot more pitiful than your harlequin, though.

I honestly do not understand why people find these things anything other than creepy.

Oh right, sorry UT...it is a poster and not a painting...just ment the original work looked to have been painted so I used "painting" ...crap....

Thanks wolf...I'll check his stuff out while I keep trying to search for answers about my *poster*.

You can find very similar artwork by the mysterious Sara Moon of the 80's--Sara's waifs were more rock 'n roll than your pic there, but very soft, girly, wide-eyed.

A search term you could try is "harlequin", her outfit.

Lynden St. Victor has a similar style, as well as Mark Ryden (click a link on the left.)

Hey Pezza - do you know anything about that stuff?
Razzmatazz13 • Aug 29, 2007 11:29 pm
In my sleepiness last night I forgot to put the rest of the stuff that's written at the bottom...which is (c) 1980 Wizard and Genius - Idealcor AG...those guys have a website
http://www.wizard.ch/index.php
Unfortunately I looked through all 107 pages of posters and (unsurprisingly) they no longer have my poster or any others like it. They have an email...so I'll send a message about my poster later I think.

Edit: In my current sleepiness I forgot to thank all of you guys for giving me tips and neat links to follow for similar artwork. They're great but I'm still going to try and hunt down this artist if I can.

Ebay has everything.

Of course, you already have one of these, so I'm not sure how valuable the link will be to you.

Guess who is now #1 on Google for "Petite Rose" Erha?
