Intelligent Footballers?

Aliantha • Aug 25, 2007 5:53 am
I just heard a comentator say, "[the coach] must question the intelligence of some of his players..."

OK, what planet does this guy come from? Oh, that's right, he's an ex footballer himself.

Yeah yeah I know there are some smart ones out there, but they're pretty few and far between. Any coach that doesn't realize he needs to put things as simply as possible has probably had too many head knocks himself.

Here's something else from the same match. I acutally thought I'd post this for jimbo. The team is 'The Roosters' and one of their supporters has a large banner which says, "We'll beat you with our cocks".

My oldest child just left 2 years at Univ of South Carolina, the Gamecocks. The wife went up to visit her last year and came home with a shirt to wear at the gym. The front says in big red letters,
COCKS. :D

I played futbol with a guy who got an academic free ride to Harvard.... course I heard he boozed his way out.
DanaC • Aug 25, 2007 7:24 am
futbol?
Aliantha • Aug 25, 2007 7:25 am
Ummm...typo? lol
Griff • Aug 25, 2007 7:28 am
South American spelling, reduces confusion over which game we're talking about... or so I thought.
DanaC • Aug 25, 2007 7:30 am
ahhh. Sorry. For a second I thought it was some other way of spelling Fussbal (don't know how to produce the esset on this keyboard). Why I thought someone might get a scholarship for playing table football I really can't answer :P
Aliantha • Aug 25, 2007 7:30 am
Well personally, I thought you were making a joke about the intelligence of most footballers...in keeping with the thread title and all. lol

How do you keep a Gamecock from masturbating?

Paint their junk orange, they will only beat it once every five years.

(my brother plays American football at Clemson)

Ive always thought that other people talk way cooler than I do, and this thread is proof. 'Footballer' is way cooler than soccer player, head knocks is infinitesmally (take that!) better than 'header'

Other than that I have nothing productive to add to this thread
DanaC • Aug 27, 2007 9:19 pm
head knocks? wtf is a head knock?

btw: infinitesimally
minnmirman • Aug 27, 2007 9:45 pm
haha wow I was under the impression that I had created that word

Years ago I bought a bumber sticker at the bookstore there. It proudly says, "You can't beat our cocks!"

Actually I pinned it on my cubical wall - along with a football calendar so that people could get the joke. That was back in the good old days when programmers could get away with almost anything.

Jerry Lucas (a basketball player) is also a famous memory expert. He co-wrote "The Memory Book" with Harry Lorayne. When he was a kid he would mentally re-arrange the letters of words in alphabetical order (i.e. 'alphabetical' would become 'aaabcehillpt').

I play football/soccer...very poorly, but I play it. And I've been told that I'm intelligent. So...there you go. :)
monster • Aug 28, 2007 9:29 pm
Not everybody understands the offside rule, you know. Or are are we talking about the "other football"? In which case I reckon they must have precious few brain cells left looking at the caging they use to protect them, never mind any thought about what would make you want to play that game if you had more than a few to rub together.....

:p
Aliantha • Aug 29, 2007 1:18 am
A headh knock is when they get hit, kicked or smashed in the head. Generally any kind o head bashing that could result in brain damage.
lookout123 • Aug 29, 2007 1:52 am
I play at least two, usually three games a week. It has been pointed out that this proves my lack of intelligence. Of course this is coming from someone who wants me to sit back down and just drink beer.
JuancoRocks • Aug 29, 2007 3:13 am
Intelligent Footballers?

Oxymoron?:D
Aliantha • Aug 29, 2007 3:27 am
You know, I was just looking at this thread title and thought the same thing myself. That must be snapworthy.
xoxoxoBruce • Aug 29, 2007 6:22 pm
Out kicking a ball around a cow pasture for millions of dollars... yep, they sure are dumb.
Aliantha • Aug 30, 2007 1:51 am
yeah...a lot of them are very dumb. If you don't think so i guess that's your opinion.
lookout123 • Aug 30, 2007 12:31 pm
That concept you just missed is called sarcasm.
Aliantha • Aug 30, 2007 8:27 pm
I don't think so lookout. I'm pretty sure I was spot on.
Aliantha • Aug 30, 2007 8:51 pm
What I mean by that is, if I said ths sky is blue, Bruce would argue it's green.
xoxoxoBruce • Aug 30, 2007 9:16 pm
Not at all.
lookout123 • Aug 30, 2007 9:37 pm
Hmmm, then maybe Bruce's eyes are more sensitive to the color yellow, causing your blue sky to appear green to him.
Aliantha • Aug 30, 2007 9:55 pm
You could be right there lookout. I never thought of that.
Aliantha • Sep 1, 2007 5:26 am
The latest statement by a commentator, "He's a fair dinkum imbo!" of Jeremy Smith because he charged another player then tried to punch him.
