Pets are good for your health

Mark Voegel, 30, was found dead in his Dortmund, Germany apartment. His body was draped in spider webs and more than 200 spiders, several snakes, thousands of termites, and a gecko were feasting on his corpse.
Proper authorities were alerted when concerned neighbours noticed a horrendous stench eminating from the apartment.
His black widow, Bettina, is believed to have administered the deadly bite.

Voeger's apartment has been described as both a "zoo" and a "jungle" by authorities. He never let people visit.

A police spokesman said: “It was like a horror movie. His corpse was over the sofa. Giant webs draped him, spiders were all over him. They were coming out of his nose and his mouth. There was everything there one could imagine in the world of reptiles. Larger pieces of flesh torn off by the lizards were scooped up and taken back to the webs of tarantulas and other bird-eating spiders.”

The spiders and termites managed to escape when the heating elements exploded and opened the lids to their tanks.

The lizards were allowed to roam.

Voegel also kept a pet boa constricter and several poisonous frogs.

He was dead for somewhere between seven and fourteen days when his corpse was found. Enough time for the creepy-crawlies to make a new home out of his apartment.

Well, I guess the type of pet may make a difference.

Ick. I feel so, so sorry for the folks who had to clean him up.

3) maybe he would have wanted to go like that. Okay, not precisely like that, but if he loved his animals so much, maybe he didn't mind that his earthly remains went to feed them.

This story makes a nice dessert immediately following dinner.

I've heard a lot of stories about old women dying with their cats being trapped inside with them, then eating their corpse. On the flipside, I've also heard about dog owners dying and when the police break the door down to get in the house they find the dog, also dead of starvation at the owners feet.

I don't think I'll complain next time one of my boys punctures me while doing their patented Kamikaze Flying Kuddle (usually when I'm naked, coming out of the bathroom, adding loose wet hair on my clean skin to the shock and distress of claws buried in breasts)

How long does it take to die from a black widow bite? Can you imagine lying there alive but immobile for days and actually feeling them start their feast?

BRISBANE, Australia: An Australian woman was killed by a pet camel given to her as a 60th birthday present after the animal apparently tried to have sex, police said Sunday.

The fate of the camel was not known.

The woman was given the camel in March as a birthday present from her husband and daughter. "She had a love of exotic pets," Gregory said.

I don't think that black widow bites are fatal to grown men--certainly not a single bite.

It may have been multiple bites, like if the spider had gotten into his clothes or a shoe. Shoe's more likely, since that's where black widows like to hide, if I recall correctly.

Or he may have just had a weak immune system/been allergic to the black widow toxins. Other then those to scenarios, I don't believe it would have been possible for the widow to have killed him.

Did he die because of the bug/spider bites or he died previously and the animals just invaded his corpse?

How dangerous are black widow spider bites?
If a black widow spider bites a person, do not panic! No one in the United States has died from a black widow spider bite in over 10 years. Very often the black widow will not inject any venom into the bite and no serious symptoms develop. Wash the wound well with soap and water to help prevent infection.

If muscle cramps develop, take the patient to the nearest hospital. Some victims, especially young children, may be admitted overnight for observation and treatment. There is treatment for a black widow spider bite that can take care of the symptoms. Various medications are used to treat the muscle cramps, spasms and pain of a bite. Black widow spider antivenin is seldom necessary.

Blech...I was hoping for photos of cute puppies or something here...not the mental image of spiders crawling out of a bloated corpse nose....

This is why I decided not to study forensics.
