August 14, 2007: Indian villagers get anti-terror training

Yeah! You go girl! An official caption says

Ladies of the Village Defense Committee squeeze off a few AK-47 bursts during training by the Indian army in Sariya, India. VDCs are local self-defense groups that were set up in Jammu and Kashmir in the mid-1990's following a number of massacres. The idea is to help villagers in remote areas defend themselves against terrorist attacks and intimidation.

An Indian co-worker of mine recognized the phenomenon immediately: the Village Defense Committee is a familiar thing in many parts of India. Here, it's a case of colorful and joyful female empowerment.



Another Indian co-worker mentioned that, in the old class system in India, she was of the second-highest class which is roughly the warrior class. Her ancient family history was in the military. It seemed funny because the lady in question is 5 feet tall and of a totally gentle disposition. But terrorists beware: there are hidden warriors in India, and they're armed, dangerous, and some are kinda cute as well.

Second picture...#1 Mark III Enfields...originally in .303 British...later converted to .410 single shot shotguns..... For police riot control......no magazine protruding. A nine pound shotgun in .410 is a lot to carry.

I've got an Enfield rebored to accept .308, which is a more readily available calibre. It was made 1964 at the Ishapore armoury.

I am a HUGE Enfield fan. I have 4 different ones including my fav which has been sporterized for hunting. It is my fav deer hunting rifle. I shoot it with open sites and can shoot 3 inch groups at 100 meters (if I have my glasses on!) :D I love it.

We can only hope.

And it is not that I am for wiping out women and children, it is the only way I can think of to stop a religion that preaches, all non-believers must die.

(And yes I know that is an extremist view and "core" Islamic faith doesn't teach that, but my god, a selection of Islams have been interpreting it that way since the Middle Ages. It is time to shut the source of the hate-mongering down.)
