It seemed like a good idea at the time.

When you see something truly stupid about to be done put it here so we can be amazed at your forsight when we have a manure encrusted fan.

I'll start.

US to arm Israel and Arab states in $60bn deal

..."There is no question that ... Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries are not doing all they can to help us in Iraq," Mr Khalilzad told CNN last week....

Let's reward a failing state, that isn't much of an ally, with cool high tech gear that will be in the hands of radicals when they fall.

I'll give it a try.

South Korean Envoy to Meet Taliban Kidnappers

Does meeting with kidnappers ever work?

Giving billions of dollars of weapons to the Middle East ... what could go wrong? . . . . . . . Sadaam? . . . . . . . Osama? . . . . . . . My favorite part is that Israel complained about all these Arabs getting new weaponry, so we're giving some to them as well, as if that fixes the problem!

For the right price.

The giant ball of oil seemed like a good idea at the time.

We have been giving weapons to all sides for 30 plus years. None of this is new. We armed both sides of ME regional conflicts as well. Carter was selling arms to both the Israeli's and the Jordanian, who in turn sold them to Syria. We gave arms to Iran and Iraq during their war. Now we have some new friends and we are selling them arms. No one should be shocked as if this is some grand revelation.

This is an interesting thread idea, but I see no reason it should be limited to politics.

Its not a grand revelation, its just kinda stupid. See post #4.

Representing one's self in court, especially in a family law case, like divorce.

"A man who represents himself in court has an idiot for a client."

Yeah... I could fit that bill.

Paying two sets of lawyers to divide our assets between themselves.

Everything, well except for the lawyers.

You're on the mark here. Keep it wide open.

Remember what happened to something like six Iranian diplomats that met the Taliban? Their bodies were returned without heads.

It would be much easier to just return the heads, I would think. Avoids confusion and you save on shipping.

Eisenhower did all in his power to stop the spread of communism. He promised aid to any nation facing the threat of communism. As an example of this policy, Eisenhower sent American soldiers to South Vietnam to serve as military advisers to this nation's military. The next two presidents, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson, increased the number of American troops in South Vietnam, contributing to the Vietnam War.

Damn I thought al-Qaeda was bad but the Taliban wanted to be 'Superbad' all along! They just don't f-ing care!
piercehawkeye45 • Aug 9, 2007 10:40 pm
One reason why we really need more than one category for terrorist groups. There is no way we can put other "terrorist" groups and compare them to organizations like Al-Qaeda or the Taliban.

US turns U-2 spy planes on itself, raising specter of broader surveillance

In a striking but unnoticed extension of domestic surveillance, the little-known National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency deployed a U-2 spy plane on the region affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to track hazards to public health...

"The NGA's role in Hurricane Katrina has received little attention outside of a few military and space industry publications," he adds. "But the agency's close working relationship with the NSA -- whose powers to spy domestically were just expanded with new legislation from Congress -- raises the distinct possibility that the U.S. government could be doing far more than secretly listening in on phone calls as it targets and tracks individuals inside the United States. With the additional capabilities of the NGA and the use of other cutting-edge technologies, the government could also conceivably be following the movements of those individuals minute by minute, watching a person depart from a mosque in, say, Lodi, Calif., or drive a car from Chicago to Detroit."

I would agree with that. How can we possibly compare a group like the IRA, for instance, with Al Q.
