It's Neatorama Collaboration Monday!

Image

And the subject line says it all. What more do you need to know? It's a monkey on a goat on a platform on a wire!

The item is from China Daily, where the full story gives no more information (and one less interesting shot).

Don't miss the little guy's tongue, in case you didn't see it when you glanced at another animal IotD.

Be sure to check out our friends at Neatorama for more neato items all the time!

Hey, even the monkey knows - tough tasks are easier with your tongue sticking out.
Shawnee123 • Jul 23, 2007 8:57 am
Ohhhhhhhhhhkay. That's entertainment.
Flint • Jul 23, 2007 10:07 am
He's like the Michael Jordan of monkeys.
glatt • Jul 23, 2007 10:21 am
The Cellar IotD goat balancing images are getting more impressive.

What next?
Shawnee123 • Jul 23, 2007 10:21 am

The little tongue sticking out is priceless. Wild pic.
axlrosen • Jul 23, 2007 11:29 am
I can't tell if the goat is concentrating intently, or incredibly pissed off.

It's not the former since the goat could almost do this in its sleep. It's pissed off at the monkey for giving it a raspberry.

Zoom in on the base of the pedestal. It seems Chinese tables can levitate beside the wire, not on it.
Shawnee123 • Jul 23, 2007 12:52 pm
Really strange that I heard this song this morning:

One little problem that confronts you,
got a monkey on your back.
Just one more fix, Lord, might do the trick.
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks. (hell, yeah)

Good eye Spud! Fake pic in my book. I'd still eat 'em though! Imagine, a BBQ'ed goat balanced on a dinner plate...Mmm, that's good eatin'!
MalzB • Jul 23, 2007 4:23 pm
I love monkeys! :D
Undertoad • Jul 23, 2007 4:56 pm
I'm going with not a fake and that the platform is permanently attached to the wire somehow.

Main reason not a fake: no reason to fake.
Shawnee123 • Jul 23, 2007 4:59 pm
If you look at the picture in the link, the goat seems to be floating around the wire in some way.

Their reason to fake? For attention. That's why there are hundreds of wacky photos of them sticking hooks in their eyelids and stuff like that. They're attention ho's.

Flint • Jul 23, 2007 5:14 pm
More overzealous 'shop-calling... :2cents:
Shawnee123 • Jul 23, 2007 5:18 pm
I'm not trying to be difficult. Did you look at the pic where the goat is stepping directly on the wire? It doesn't look right somehow. I was hoping you, and your kind, o grand experts of all that is photo and shopped, could explain why the goat seems to be hovering on the wire. IN the picture IN the link. Was hoping one of you photogs or big-time cartoonists could tell me. ;)

I gotcher overzealous shop calling right here, bucko.

And your nose is showing.
Flint • Jul 23, 2007 5:29 pm
If all four feet were touching the wire, he wouldn't be walking. Understand, this isn't a big deal to a goat. He's just waltzing along.
Spexxvet • Jul 23, 2007 5:59 pm
There's a bump on a log on hole on monkey on a goat on a platform on a wire at the bottom of the sea....

Come on - sing it with me...
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 23, 2007 6:49 pm
I think what Shawnee is seeing, is the half of the cloven hoof that's not on the wire, is hanging down on the other side.

Holy crap that is funny! The dog and the monkey. Looks real.
DucksNuts • Jul 23, 2007 10:21 pm
I love the look on Flint's dog's face...its like "oh boy, oh boy, oh boy...I'm gonna get em"
Nivek • Jul 23, 2007 10:25 pm
Both the goat and the monkey are more talented than I'll ever be.
Flint • Jul 23, 2007 11:10 pm
Holy crap, I just realized that "Wrangler" (post #13) was IotD for 10/29/2002. My Google Image search hit on Neatorama's caption "Cowboy Monkey" but it linked back here. And I have to say, I think Wrangler is photoshopped. I noticed, after posting the pic, that he is surrounded by image artifact.

I assumed "Wrangler" was real, because I thought he was Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey, seen below. As you can see from his website, Wrangler is real enough to be sponsored by Wrangler jeans and Justin boots, among others. I think I've seen Whiplash in Ye Olde Videoe Clippe Threade.

I'm having trouble seeing where the weight is being borne on the front. But, I don't know much about goats...he might be strong enough that a split second of no weight on the front is do-able. Just looked funny to me. Eh, what do I know?
xoxoxoBruce • Jul 24, 2007 7:41 pm
The weight is on the front most hoof and the other front hoof is just lifting off the wire, I think.
Anada • Jul 25, 2007 12:31 pm
I must agree that it doesn't look quite right... altough goats can easily balance themselves in the most incredible of places, this wire thing looks unreal to me too..
Shawnee123 • Jul 25, 2007 1:01 pm
Hi Anada!

Watch out, Cellarites are known for being very sensitive about pictures of other things. ;)

Welcome!

Well ain't that just the end-all, be-all quote to shut us up.

Main reason to fake:

Hey, look what we can do with a monkey and a goat and a wire.

But no one does anything useless for no reason, esp not on the net.

Let's pull out another amazing seemingly random quote:

I'm not trying to be difficult. Did you look at the pic where the goat is stepping directly on the wire? It doesn't look right somehow. I was hoping you, and your kind, o grand experts of all that is photo and shopped, could explain why the goat seems to be hovering on the wire. IN the picture IN the link. Nah, just tell me I'm wrong and don't try to explain it, Flint. Maybe you could cartoon it. I can't believe how senthitive you are over this pic.

DucksNuts • Jul 25, 2007 9:03 pm
I dont think its a wire as such, but a bit of pipe or some such thing and goats are like cats....they can balance on nothing.

The hoof hanging down is actually pretty normal for goatie type stuff. Gunston (my angora) often climbs the fence out the front and when he is standing on it, one *pad* will be on the top rail and the other wont. It looks like normal goat gait with the positioning of the hoofs.

Wheres Goatman Griff in all this?
wolf • Jul 26, 2007 1:32 am
He's off trying to figure out how to make them do this, and also how to charge admission.
Shawnee123 • Jul 26, 2007 11:16 am
Great cartoon! :p

Thanks Ducks, I was wondering about that. I didn't know goats had such balance. That was part of my question/confusion.

Thanks for the welcome!.. I don't mean to hurt anybody's feeling ;), and just to support the balancing capabitilites of goats: http://www.magicposters.com/images/pics/Balancing_goat.jpg, a Balancing Goat engraving from 1800's.

Naw, you're fine, Anada. I was just using your post as a vehicle to continue a little picking on each other thingy I had going on with a couple other 'ites. It's all good clean fun. :) Even a slurp spider was looking a shop debate posted a few years ago.

That picture is really cool. Thanks!
Hillrick • Jul 30, 2007 8:55 pm
At first glance I said this looked like something you would see in China, then I looked again and said "I think I saw this in Nanning!" Sure enough that is where they said it was, right down at the zoo. They have a soccer playing elephant that is more interesting though...
DanaC • Jul 30, 2007 9:15 pm
Well, hello Hillrick! Welcome to the Cellar. A soccer playing elephant you say?
Hillrick • Jul 31, 2007 5:21 pm
Well...he only kicked a ball towards a goal, he wasn't heading theball or any Shoalin soccer moves...

I think it's all done with mirrors. Or remote control. Or magic. Or something!! I'm troubled by the rope/wire not changing (sagging) when the goat steps on and/or off, though. And the audience seems entirely unimpressed, judging from their lackluster response...
toranokaze • Mar 3, 2008 12:33 am
it is all done with photoshop
