Merritt Island Florida

Hi everyone. I'm here in Fl for a few months til the big trip to the Phils.

There are moments that it seems like a terrible place to live then 10 minutes later the best.

I'm attempting to get a good photo or series of photos of an aligator without getting arrested or injured.

It's not as easy as I once thought.

Just make sure it's not that dude who dresses like an alligator to study them. ;)

Great pics!

If that alligator impersonator happens to be around I'll get a pic of him too. :)

People are wusses... gators don't mess with ya'.
slang • Jun 21, 2007 5:24 pm
The gators might not but I've been dived on by some rather big birds less than happy with having their picture taken.
slang • Jun 21, 2007 5:26 pm
No Zip the girl on the sailboat in NOT bending over showing her butt.
slang • Jun 21, 2007 5:28 pm
It's beautiful here, yes...but the birds are fascinating.
slang • Jun 21, 2007 5:32 pm
Some just fly away casually.

It's the people that see me stalking the birds that are funny. :)

I'm not here to hurt the birds just take some photos.

These are from the Indian river bridge in Titusville.
slang • Jun 21, 2007 5:36 pm
Same location different birds.

There are more non-bird photos from Fl coming soon. Maybe from someone's cruiser this weekend.

Or maybe from someone's bicycle.

Yes. The temp here is about the same as Manila ( less the bad air quality and so on ).

This new camera is a Kodak with a 12X zoom lens.

Digital Photography Review

Mr Toad:

The image stabilization that you suggested is the latest in cool gadgetry is truly useful with this camera. That feature alone makes using the zoom lens at max possible.

The prices are coming down as well.

What does SLR-like mean?
glatt • Jun 22, 2007 1:16 pm
I think it generally means that you have a high level of control over the camera like you would on a SLR, and that it has a very good lens like a SLR. But it's not a detachable lens with a flip up mirror like a SLR. It also looks a bit like a SLR. Actually, I'm not sure digital SLRs have a flip up mirror.

SLR-like seems to mean....about half the price. ;)

I believe you are right Glatt.

This new(ish) Kodak does allow the user to change all the settings but the auto setting is what is used 90+% of the time.

I lived in Brevard County, Florida for about 3.5 years. All in all, I liked it; however, it was very expensive and the jobs didn't pay.

My official opinion of this area ( as a travelling design guy) is that the people working in design are not nearly as serious about meeting deadlines as those people living in much less interesting locations.

Working weekends? No way. There are too many very cool things to do and see here.

It doesnt pay nearly as much because there are not too many people taking deadlines seriously.

On the upside, it's beautiful here and there are some very interesting animals here. :D

Here are some pics of the canal and surrounding area. There are warning signs to keep boat traffic slow for the safety of the manatees but I've yet to see one.

Beaches seem so much more fun after the sun goes down. After that, less people is better.

After those two issues maybe if the beach was paved over. That might make me want to hang out there.
TheMercenary • Jul 7, 2007 2:32 pm
This is the one we stayed in the last two years. We skipped it this year and really miss it. June is the best month to go and when we always stayed. Very quiet, small town with few places to go a few places to eat, a pizza place for the teens to hang out at, and some great little bars. Anyone looking for a place that is 180 deg from the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach scene would want to check out St. George Island. I'll try to post some personal pics next week.
