It's another Daily Mail item from xoB. These irresistable guys are artists, according to the full story...

Staff at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon, have taken a novel approach to fundraising as they turn their pigs into painters.

Their miniature pigs have been creating works of modern art which sell for up to £16 each and have so far raised more than £150 for the Farm Crisis Network charity.

Well as long as it's volunteer, and for charity, I guess there's nothing wrong with it.

Not bad work.

That's the cutest freaking thing I've seen in a long time! I will forgo the food jokes.
Cloud • Jun 15, 2007 12:54 pm
Pretty Darn Cute!

(the pigs, not the paintings)

Pig on the left, "Hey, don't handle the merchandise!"
Pig on the right is just enjoying it.
HungLikeJesus • Jun 15, 2007 1:26 pm
Instead of the painting, I'd rather have a photo of the pig that painted it.

I wonder what it would cost to have them paint my house.

Jules: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.

Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charmin' motherbleepin' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?

little piglets are FAR cuter than honkin' hogs.

and they are filthy animals who will eat anything, and pork does not digest well in the human system. I try to avoid pig products for that reason.

(sobs over the smell of frying bacon)

Awe that is too f-ing cute.

Those pigs're getting ripped off if that's all they're making on their paintings. There's a turtle in Connecticut that sells paintings on eBay for MUCH more than that! http://www.turtlekiss.com/

Ok, I'll quit with the Pulp Fiction references now. Sorry, but I love a good chance to quote me some PF. :3eye:

Disagree!

They're not filthy - they use mud to cool off, protect them from the sun and insects. Pigs can't sweat you know.

Also they don't eat "anything" given the choice, although they will eat what is provided in captivity. Which is why I believe free range pig meat tastes so much better than factory farmed - sausages, bacon, pork all have a stronger, more robust taste when pigs are allowed to forage naturally.

I'm a pig fan.
smurfalicious • Jun 15, 2007 2:47 pm
mmmmmmmmmmmm........ bacon.
Sarasvati48 • Jun 15, 2007 3:26 pm
Baby pigs are adorable...
BigV • Jun 15, 2007 3:32 pm
Nope--these are art pigs.
Cloud • Jun 15, 2007 3:39 pm
Just so you know, there's NO WAY I'm going to open the "fart pigs" thread. Just. no. way.
Shawnee123 • Jun 15, 2007 3:42 pm
You have to, it's hilarious.

BigV...those pigs are like those cows, arent' they? I saw some in Vegas a couple years ago, and got a small cow with Starry Night painted on it.

Piggy Painters: Van Snout and his pal Bottabelli

I wonder which is better.

What is £? Different than a normal pound?
artemis05 • Jun 15, 2007 4:16 pm
in belize i saw pigs (well, hogs really) that were almost as big as horses... i like the little ones better

pigs always make me think of how my cousin drew a picture of two pigs having sex when she was like... 10, one of the pigs was pooping at the same time... damn, i love my family.

that'll do pig, that'll do

Ya, I agree with SG here. They are only filthy/mean when they are kept in filthy/overcrowded conditions by humans. Otherwise they are clean, intelligent and social.
I'm reading a book right now that has an interesting chapter on (mostly religious) aversion to pigs. The author thinks a lot of it comes from pigs being so similar to humans.

OMG Christopher Hitchens! If he likes pigs, that actually makes me like them less. :p

The little painters sure are cute, though.
xoxoxoBruce • Jun 15, 2007 4:51 pm
I think a whole lot of it has to do with Trichinosis.
Cloud • Jun 15, 2007 4:53 pm
and the fact that they will eat anything, including people and each other, if given a chance

yeah, I know--they're supposed to make good pets.

But they're so UGLY.

Just like people... I mean long pig.

Personally I think chickens are ugly, dirty, and nasty... until they are rotisseried.

Hitchens is a cool guy...really! Being near DC, if you frequent DC bars enough, you're bound to run into him eventually, and you'll see. He just likes to sell books. :)

Mmmm, they should get those li'l pigs to paint with butter.
Flint • Jun 15, 2007 5:18 pm
I got yer "long pig" right here, baby!
jinx • Jun 15, 2007 5:21 pm
Oh yeah? Lets see it.
Cloud • Jun 15, 2007 5:23 pm

Flint • Jun 15, 2007 5:24 pm
Don't bite off more than you can chew.

...er...let me rephrase that:

Don't write a check your ass can't cash.
Cloud • Jun 15, 2007 5:26 pm
you're just a tease then, boy!
jinx • Jun 15, 2007 5:33 pm
C'mon Flint, I don't believe it exists, but it would be really easy to prove it...

Agreeing totally in return.
I find chickens repulsive alive (although I try to make sure the ones that go into ma belly have lived a reasonable life)

I think pigs are adorable, from squealing piglings to big fat porkers. The most useful animals in the world, surely? You can eat just about every bit of them, wear their skin, ride them, race them, make them dive... Oh the list goes on and on...

I even made an effort to visit the pigs on my Mum's 60th birthday! Cellar link
SPUCK • Jun 15, 2007 11:00 pm
Why you guys dissin chickens? My ten are pretty hilarious and pump out about 8 great eggs a day. They nailed every slug and snail on the property. They will follow you around. They love it when you dig, they fight to ride the shovel.
HungLikeJesus • Jun 15, 2007 11:06 pm
"ride the shovel," that's the title I've been looking for. Thanks SPUCK.
xoxoxoBruce • Jun 15, 2007 11:34 pm
I want to riiiiiiide, ride the shovel
I want to riiiiiiide, ride the shovel
It will be black and white in the dead of night
Handle flashing in the clear moonlight
I want to riiiiiiide, ride the shovel
