In Brisbane Today

Ok. Inspired by the recent commute and countryside pics, I thought I'd add some of my own. All these were taken today (14/6/7).

Image
Bush junk, South of Brisbane (Technically on the Gold Coast) near my office. Grey Kangaroos, these guys watched me eat my morning tea.

Image
Brisbane CBD from Mt Gravatt lookout, looking North, into the winter sun, so it's hard to get a decent shot. Mt Coot-tha (last pic) is to the left of shot.

Image
The City again, this time from Leopard st, again looking North. It was nowhere near as hazy as this looks. You can normally get really good photos from this spot.

Image
City Hall, from Ann St. Construction works everywhere.

Image
The Fourex Brewery, (home of the finest beer in the universe*) from Milton Rd. The elegant arrow gives the rough location of the Mt Cooth-tha lookout, from where the final pic was taken, looking East to the City and beyond to Stradbroke Island on the horizon.

Image
In this last pic, the brewery would be at the middle left, but it's obscured by greenery, and Mt Gravatt is just out of frame to the right.

*Don't argue, just accept it. It's true.

Hagar • Jun 14, 2007 1:35 am
I nearly didn't put the skippy pics in, a bit too parochial really. But, they were there, I was there...it just happened!
DucksNuts • Jun 14, 2007 1:39 am
They are cool pics, Hagar! :D

How does Skippy know Sonny tasted like horse piss? :p :D

...and don't get me started on VB, 'specially since we're talking about horse piss!

Didnt you see the Uncut version?
Hagar • Jun 14, 2007 2:04 am
I always thought there was something funny going on in the old Waratah National Park...

[later] I went looking and found more info than I'll ever need to know about Skippy: (at least the "official" version, anyway :p )

Wow. I didn't realise they started making it in 1968. I thought it was much later. It would have been about 10 years old when I started watching it.

Great pics Hagar. Are you a travelling salesman or something? Looks like you went all over the southside today. ;)
Aliantha • Jun 14, 2007 6:56 am
Oh yeah...XXXX is the best (even if it is owned by a bunch of sheep fuckers these days)

Cool pics Hagar! What body of water are we looking at?
Aliantha • Jun 14, 2007 7:19 am
That's the Brisbane River Griff. It runs right through the middle of our city.

Yup, sales rep. Brisbane Southeast mostly, but I get to go all over Brisbane and the Gold Coast. It's a good job. :)

Beautiful! Love the kangaroos. One can never have enough animal pics, right? Brisbane's a pretty city from what I see.
Clodfobble • Jun 14, 2007 9:45 am
Hagar, your shot from Leopard St. looks a whole lot like the Austin skyline. And I loved the kangaroo picture!

Is the barbed wire fence to keep the roos in or out?
Cloud • Jun 14, 2007 1:34 pm
very cool to see pics from the other side of the world!

(runs off to look up Brisbane on the map)

It's a (cowless) cow paddock. That fence doesn't stop roos at all. Its only three strands (and the bottom one is plain wire), so they typically crawl under, but they can also go over if startled. 'Cause the trees are still there, the roos love it - lots of shade and lots of grass. It's not unusual to see 20 or so roos grazing, even during the day. There's a big commercial golf course about a kilometre down the road, and it's the same down there.

More of the same mob:

The "f off, I'm resting" look. (digital zoom=grainy!)

From the adjacent street. The other roos were under the trees to the right of frame.

wow. That just seems so exotic to me!

I suppose tumbleweeds and roadrunners would seem exotic to you.
Aliantha • Jun 14, 2007 5:23 pm
We're so jaded in australia. Nothing seems exotic. ;)

Hi Hagar nice to see Brisbane - one of our clients is an Australian shipowner who runs contracts with vegoils from East Coast South America into New Zealand and East coast Oz - we usually end up at Brisbane, but, until now, I had no idea what it looks like. Given my experiences in Beijing and Qingdao two weeks ago the first thing I noticed is how little air pollution you appear to have there. The Chinese could learn some lessons from Brisbane dwellers methinks!
