Camping on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC
Badger and I went camping two weeks ago at Mount Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC. I put up the web page with lots of pics. Here are a few.
See
here for the rest, and for  copyright info.
Beautiful, thank you.
Oh btw, copyright schmopy right, I'm stealing that motorcycle sign. I already have it, but it's a crappy picture, your's...uh, ours... is primo.
That is a pretty wacky sign. Great pics Pie!

You're welcome. So (if you know)
what the hell is it?? :eyebrow:
BTW, there are other "pages" (Flowers, Waterfalls, etc.) in the table of contents up on top. I don't know if people see that or not. (The page is of my own design, so sometimes I can't tell what other people see/don't see.)
Lovely area, great pictures.
Can you really not work out what the sign means?
Well.... sigh... I suppose I can tell you.
It's "No Riding Trick Riding Over The Rainbow - This Is A National Park, Not The Entrance To Valhalla"
See why they prefer a graphic representation now?
As far as I can tell, there's no circle around it and a slash through it. That would be "NO riding"... It just seems to indicate "Please ride in an insane manner, and other motorists should be aware that you are insane."

I stand corrected - I always confuse the two.
I think the sign was mounted wrong. It's supposed to be rotated ccw by 90 degrees.
And I love the rest of your pictures too. The Maine ones take me home.
That's brilliant!
And the great thing is that somewhere in NC is a sign poster laughing up his sleeve at his little joke, not knowing that even people across the Atlantic are now onto his game.
Verry COOL !!!!
Great pics , it looks like a Great place to hang out for a while .
A long hike, then back to the campsite for good beer, good fire, a couple of steaks, bright stars... Ahhh!
The only drawback to that campground was the lack of showers, but we rigged our own.

No, it's a warning that there are sharp bends so don't be looking at the scenery when you should be paying attention to the road, or you'll end up in deep poopy.
The reason I already had a crappy shot was a friend of mine was riding through there and had the triple tree (front end) of his bike lock up so he couldn't turn. He went off on the shoulder but unhurt. His wife grabbed a shot of the bike and the sign, thinking he was lucky it happened by the sign and not where the sign was warning about.

And don't be trying to work out what the sign actually means rather than watching the road ahead...
Gorgeous photos, Pie. I love the shower.
I thought that sign thing was a hill. I think they could have done a better job of conveying "curve." The snaky curve signs do a decent job, just stick a bicycle guy on top:

That's a motorcycle, they know the bicycle people are just incorrigible crazies.

Hey! We are not.:3eye:
Oh, btw, nice pics. We camped up there near Cherokee one year. Beautiful.
Hey, any of you horticulturalists know what these flowers are?

Trillium. Probably Undulatum.

Painted Trillium
Trillium undulatum
Thanks, Bruce!
My pleasure, m'luv. I knew it was a trillium but I had to look up which one, there's a lot of them.
I live in Coastal South Carolina but use to vacation in North Carolina. I have actually camped on Mount Pisgah. Two wonderful days not to mention dinner at the Mt. Pisgah Inn. What a pretty place.
Gee, we go up to coastal Georgia and South Carolina for our vacations...
I wonder what people in Miami do?
Gee, we go up to coastal Georgia
Come by my house we can go boating.
Since this is a camping thread, I figured I'd throw this one in here.
I hate my parents. [/envy]
Just got this picture as an e-mail attachment from them. My dad's a professor, and school's out, so they went camping just before the summer rate$ kick in. This was their campsite.
Okay, it's official. I hate your parents, too. Where is that beautiful spot?
Writhing in palpable envy,
lizzym
Will you forgive them if they loan you the Westfalia?
Will you forgive them if they loan you the Westfalia?
Absolutely!
I've borrowed it twice. I can't believe they don't make these any more. It's the ultimate sport utility vehicle in the strict sense of those words.
This is somewhere in Maine.
Oooh, could be lots of places, but I'm thinking Casco Bay. Huge deepwater bay, lots of islands, lots of lobster, Freeport.
They can keep the lobster. As long as they bring me with them (next time).
