My friend found this picture on the wall of a restaurant in Thailand. The caption reads "The King of Thailand (far left) with
Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman. George Bush is on the right."

Kinda cool. G. H. W. Bush was no G. W. Bush, when you look at his resume.

No I don't know who the trombonist is, but I wondered about that also when I 1st saw the pic.

It's Bangkok in 1956 but I can't find a name for the trombonist. I don't think its Bill Harris.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but how do you know the location and date?
The guy in your pic looks like it could be an older version of the tromboner (thanks, Bruce!) in my pic, when was it taken?
Wikipedia says Goodman teamed up with Armstrong in 1953, and a PBS-JAZZ (the KenBurns film) site says he (Goodman) was touring "under the auspices of the US Department of State, the Far East (1956-7)" so, Griff, you could be right!
The question is how did 41 get in the pic?
It looks like he might be on a drum kit.

Was 41 working for the State Dept then? Could have been the chaperon, if he was. Maybe a groupie too.

The miracle of Google! Apparently the pic was taken at the Atlanta Hotel in Bangkok.

Could be Harris the set of the eyes seems right.

The guys used to use a lot of hair oil back in the day. He and Sr. went out back for a doobie but his Zippo was set too high...
