"dicking with me"

What does the phrase "dicking with me" mean to you?

To me, it means the same as "fucking around with me" or "messing around with me".
Flint • May 29, 2007 1:35 pm
"dicking around with" something can also be similar to "fiddling with" it, but "dicking around with" is less productive than "fiddling with"

Dicking [around] with you.. can mean in a malicious way, like messing with someone, playing a mean trick, etc. Or just hanging out, not doing much of anything. Context clues!
Synonymous with "screwing around".
To dick around.. what Flint said. Unproductive, not doing much of anything worthwhile.

Dicking with me and dicking around with me, are completely different scenarios.
theotherguy • May 29, 2007 5:43 pm
So is "dicking me"

i never hear anyone say "dicking with me" im guessing it means the same as "fucking with me" and the other "dick" phrases:

dicking around - messing around, wasting time, kidding
dicked me - screw over

I always thought it was like "being a dick to me," with a connotation of not taking me or our interactions seriously. If (hypothetical situation here) my boss told me he really liked my work one day, and then casually hinted the next day that if I worked more overtime I'd be in line for a raise, and the next week, after I'd been pulling twelve-hour shifts for a few days, announced that they were making major cutbacks and no one would be getting a raise this year, that would be dicking with me -- basically fucking me over, but more out of selfishness and thoughtlessness than outright malice.

I say fucking with me.
Same thing.
No reason to care.

I think fucking with someone can be friendly, though. For instance, in the movie There's Something About Mary,* there was a running joke where Mary would say something shocking and unexpected to one of her friends, get a huge reaction, and then say "I'm just fucking with you!" As in:

"You like that band? Dude, they suck ass!"
"Your MOM sucks ass!"
"My mom's in a coma, you jerk!"
"Oh my god, really? I'm so sorry!"
"Ha! No, I'm just fucking with you."

... not that I'm a language dork or anything. Not at all. :o

*I'm not exactly a huge Farrelly Brothers fan, but I remembered that gag because when the movie was on TV they had to edit it so she said "just messing with you," and it was amazing how much less funny it was.

Yeah, "I'm just dicking with you" is the same around here.
Griff • May 30, 2007 11:35 am
I've really only heard it in the context of someone realizing they'd gone to far. It's part of the back-pedal protocol.

Are we supposed to bump these SDRTP threads no matter what?
HungLikeJesus • Aug 1, 2008 11:56 am
I usually only bump them if I think someone else will get something out of it.
Sundae • Aug 1, 2008 12:13 pm
If someone was dicking with me I might get somethign out of it...
classicman • Aug 1, 2008 12:54 pm
talk to Bruce or Els - I'm sure they'll help you out with that.
Sundae • Aug 1, 2008 1:01 pm
I'm not sure I want the outcome though...!
Undertoad • Aug 1, 2008 1:06 pm
Well have them aim it at a towel.
jazzmusicluvr • Aug 1, 2008 2:16 pm
I would use the phrase like "are you kidding me."
