Is America Dying?

Their crime is out of control, they are being invaded and do nothing but argue. They are divided ideologically and are over extended with their military.
Are they a doomed nation?

And they acknowledge problems openly to the world. How many dead coalminers in China this year? We don't really know. Numbers may be as high as tens of thousands. Before one can solve a problem, first, one must acknowledge that problem. In doomed nations, denial is the first step to disintegration and doom. How many dead coalminers?

Well, China is not a doomed nation. Apparently some in the party want to publize little reported and massively high death rates in coal mines. Same for massive death rates due to air and water pollution. Which is higher? Death from crimes in America's streets? Or dead Chinese miners due to criminal action by coal mine management?

IOW China also is not a doomed nation if smarter Chinese will start exposing their problems so that problems can be solved. Then who is working for whom?

One sign of a doomed nation: workers work for top management. One sign of a successful nation: top management instead works for the workers.

Why does America currently have some serious problems? America's current top government leaders have a communist mentality. Cheney believes we all work for him and that he needs more power. Therefore America is in denial of some major and festering problems.
richlevy • May 28, 2007 8:39 am
OK, quick poll, who's going to try to take down TW first, China or the U.S.?

The Chinese are getting smarter, they have found a stealthy way to start using the proceeds of a massive trade imbalance to invest in the U.S.. They have 1.2 trillion in foreign reserves, most of it probably U.S. dollars. At any point in time, they could acquire a controlling stake in Blackstone, but they really don't want to.

This is an absolutely fucking brilliant move. Not that we need to have a similar tactic, but I wonder if there is anyone left in our administration smart enough to have come up with something like this.

China's Blackstone deal may be harbinger

NEW YORK (Reuters) -- China has made a splash by acquiring part of influential private equity group Blackstone, portending a possible wave of stakes in companies as diverse as General Electric, Google or Goldman Sachs.
China's state investment company announced Sunday it would take a $3 billion stake in Blackstone Group LP, ahead of the firm going public in what promises to be the year's largest U.S. initial offering of stock.
The deal is a visible sign of the growing investment muscle that China can wield. China said in March it was creating an investment vehicle to diversify part of its $1.2 trillion in foreign reserves.

The new state agency could invest up to $200 billion from its reserves, state media reports have said, giving China the wherewithal to take on sizable stakes. Its Blackstone interest will be just under 10 percent and is part of a trend, Blackstone co-founder Stephen Schwarzman said, of China's investment plans.

China will learn how to structure and value private equity deals, as well as gaining a network of well connected people, said James Oberweis, president of Oberweis Asset Management Inc., who oversees an $800 million China fund.
"The Blackstone deal is as much about education on how to invest as it is about the actual investment itself," Oberweis said. "From the perspective of Blackstone, what better way to increase your penetration into the fastest-growing, major economy in the world than to have that government invested in you?"

The Blackstone deal is one of the most visible signs of China's growing clout. In 2005, Chinese offshore oil developer CNOOC Ltd. was forced to drop an $18.5 billion takeover bid for Unocal Corp., due largely to stiff U.S. political opposition.

People watch too much TV, crime goes down every year. Our violent crime has gone down over 20% in the last fifteen years, our life expectancy goes up every year, we just get better and better... 24 hour news is to blame. People want to see doom and gloom, so they deliver.
We are in great shape and getting better, except for the idiots running the nation right now, but we'll get rid of them soon & get out of Iraq, something we should never have done to begin with.

Every first world nation has its crime but not on the level seen in the united states. I have looked, we have had this discussion before. Try comparing crime rates in any US city to hong kong, tokyo, singapore and see what I mean.
Also why is america so divided ideologically? Why does america allow itself to be invaded? Why in america can a child molester get off because the judge doesn't like the prison system?

Me starting this thread was a legitimate question. Is america dying?

It has its crime but it is not falling apart because of it. You also can't learn shit from statistics and I have explained the situation for you. The average person in the United States is no more violent than anywhere else in the first world. It is just a small population that is violent.

Why does america allow itself to be invaded?

This is one of the most ignorant things I've heard. It is extremely hard and expensive to stop so stop judging others on what you have no understanding of.

Also why is america so divided ideologically?

Because we have opinions.

Why in america can a child molester get off because the judge doesn't like the prison system?

This is a one in a million thing that will inevidately happen in a coutnry as big and free as ours. If it was happening all the time then, yes it would be a problem, but it isn't.

The average american may not be more violent than anybody else but level of violence is higher than other first world nations. There is something wrong there. I know you americans are patriotic but stop denying reality.

There is nothing ignorant about that at all. You let millions of uneducated and unskilled workers flood your border despite the law. That is an invasion. You do nothing serious to stop it but argue about it instead. You even allow the invaders to protest in your streets waving their flag!
Your government is ineffective in this area. Perhaps due to corruption.

First, stop referring to Mexicans as invaders, the reasons they come to America is much deeper than "it is illegal". Second, they are protesting to try to change America. You are not trying to change America, just point out its problems. There is a big difference.

Removed like they should? So you are implying that your method is the right method and ours is wrong? Rehabilitation is the way to go in my opinion, but that is wrong apparently. That all doesn't matter anyways because we are not going the direction you are talking about. How are you getting this information about our trends?

I'm sorry for my tone but can you suggest how I can express criticisms of the united states without offending hypersensitive americans?

By suggesting how we can realistically change. If you can not come up with a suggestion on how we can change then don't say anything because it will be pointless. Listen to a Margaret Cho comedy routine sometime; and

Take the average height/weight of an American male and compare it to the average height/weight of a Chinese male and "do the math." Especially if you limit the Chinese males to those in the southern half of China where ducky is from. Northern Chinese guys are substantially larger than their southern couterparts - they have different ancestral origins.

Heated debate, reminiscent of me and duck in the other America sucks thread months ago.And this is basically the same too, a 19 year old Yankee vs. a 16 year old omniscent immigrant.
And the word invaded, that's the funniest thing someone could ever call the Latinos who come to the States, if they were invading they would be rampaging our cities, burning houses, obliterating state capitals. They are coming here to work and settle!

Ducky is just a 16 year old girl who proclaims herself as Re the sun god because after living in America she knows it inside out and wants to deface things abnormal from Hong Kong the Utopia, which is strange because many of my immigrant friends prefer America to their homeland, something about freedom and equality? Eh, nevermind. Let's just nod our heads and say "yeah, mmhmm" next time she talks about something she "knows".

And no I did not have a relationship, with Ms. Lewinsky, I mean ducky.

Also, America is not dying. It will, but it is not now. No civilization lasts forever (Egypt, Greece, Rome, Imperial Japan, the British Empire) so we are going to follow suit. But we definitely are not dying NOW. We just let one idiot take us 2 step backwards because he wants to gain acceptance from his daddy. How is that dying? That has to happen like 6 times in a row AND have our territory shrunk by half. The US is not dying and it's blasphemy to think so.

I find it amusing that someone from the outside looking in has seemed to solved all of our problems. And then, well, since we don't all fall prostrate at her feet in appreciation, proceeds to think we're all stupid.

If she really thinks that her solutions are the right ones, perhaps she should come back, become a citizen, run for office, and implement her own ideas.

Purely novel concept that...putting your money where your mouth is. 16 or not, I doubt it would ever happen.

And personally, before anyone sits back and says that 'we don't do anything about what's going wrong in this country', she should really get to know a little bit more about the people she's preaching to. Quite a few of us are politically active and are doing what we can.

People who enter any nation without permission are invaders. And when you let invaders protest in your streets is stupid and lazy on the part of your government.
Your mistake: what you call invaders are the same people who contribute so much to the American economy. That also applies to other parts of the world such as Northern Italy. What you call invaders are really a rich source of responsible workers.

What happens when illegal immigrants are rounded up and deported? That region goes recessionary. The illegals being a very important and productive part of that economy. But then these are facts as even documented in Nebraska and upstate NY.

Again, the most productive people in any nation are its third generation immigrants. Illegal or legal does not matter. They are only illegal because American immigration laws are being promoted by the same fools who also insist Saddam had WMDs. They are even using the same logic.

Those immigrants - and those many student we have now drive from America using the same 'we fear them all' reasoning - are a major source of American wealth and productivity.

Those you call invaders are also some of the best workers in America. Apparently you have been listening to 'loud and vocal' extremists rather than listen to quiet logic from moderates. Those are the misguided one who claim illegal use the social services. They do not due to risks of being caught. Heavy users of social services tend to be the lazier citizens who instead it is their right - responsibility be damned.

Violent crime across the nation is up. For the first time since 2001

It was going down for a while, as shown on your graph, then spiked up in 2006.

Your sources, and as you've pointed out, say that the last fully tabulated year was in 2005, but finding are starting to show that the US has recently started to become more violent.

You can't really say either side is right because we had a low downfall in violent crime and then recently shot up so it is hard to tell if it is a change in trend or just a fluke.

History demonstrates that if lying becomes situation normal among political leaders, then crime increases. But public now perceives George Jr as lying from corporate welfare to the drug industry, to global warming, to "Mission Accomplished". Three and four years ago, the public did not believe lying was situation normal by our government.

As this adminstration lies repeatedly, then crime should increase.

Deja vue. Well at least Nixon did not overtly advocate torture and imprisionment without judicial review. No decent American would ever advocate such crimes ... until today.

Ok, ok, you are a wacko, let's put that aside. So you think there is a straightline graph which shows that crime ebs and tides based on who is President?

So using this graph from the FBI: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_01/01crime2.pdf where total reported crimes flattened out in 1999 and began to rise in 2000 do you think that was because everyone knew at that time that Bush was going to be the new president in those years, or was it something else?

And in this graph: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_02/pdf/02crime2.pdf do you think that crime flattened out or actually decreased as a measure of population in 2001 because the majority of criminals just had not followed the press and no one had told them that Bush had been elected and now it was time to commit more crime? I wonder...

And in this graph: http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius_03/pdf/03sec2.pdf do you think that crime continued to actually go down from 2002 to 2003 because of some other curious unknown fact only known to tw? I wonder... still going down and Bush was President as I recall in those years.

Yep, that ought to do it. TW Crime Theory busted.

Um... seriously, get off the crack. You are being silly. The people don't look to politicians for moral guidance.
xoxoxoBruce • Jun 4, 2007 7:53 am
I'm not sure it's as silly as it sounds. When the President surrounds himself with morally corrupt people like Cheney, Rove, etc., the people they interact with emulate them. And the minions the emulators control take their cue in a trickle down manner. They see the people above them working with lobbyists and power mongers so that must be the accepted norm, the way to get ahead. All thinking becomes short term, what's in it for me, how do I make that next rung on the ladder, or more importantly keep from getting knocked off this one.

No, the general population doesn't look to politicians for moral guidance but they do get cues from how the rich and famous got that way. When normal people get unhappy with their plight, and see success come to people that fuck over other people, they scale it to their world.

This cause and effect doesn't have to be widespread to have an effect on national statistics, only some in addition to normal will do it.

Do you think I could get a Doctoral thesis out of that?

No you can't get a Doctoral thesis out of it because it is basically BS. Normal people are not criminals. Normal people who are "unhappy with their plight" are not running around trying to figure out how to "fuck over other people", they are trying to figure out how to be happier, and most normal people are not commiting crimes to do it. Additionally the FBI crime stats do not support tw's fantasy that there is a relationship between who is President and the national crime rate.

Who said anything about looking for guidance? The attitude is set by leadership. Because Nixon was an outright liar, everyone - virtually everyone - did drugs of some form. Remember, marijuana was considered as evil as heroine. And since American leaders lied repeatedly about Vietnam, then marijuana was everywhere. Widespread truth was "don't trust anyone over 30". This because the president make it acceptable to be a liar.

Are drugs today as routine as they were then? No. As America slowly began to trust its leaders - a trust that takes long to establish - then even crime diminished. Being honest and 'trusting anyone over 30' became acceptable again.

85% of all problems are directly traceable to top management. That reality has never changed. In NYC, Giuliani (actually his Police Commissioner) massively reduced murder. How did he do that? He started by removing the squeegee guy and litter bugs. How does the enforcement of misdemeanors reduce murders? Same concept. Do you now accuse Giuliani of being on crack? Or do you grasp the meaning behind “85% or all problems are directly traceable to top management”?

Only question remains whether a crime trend seen often applies to this sharp upswing in current American crime - especially in mid-size American cities.

Invaders, eh? Well duck_duck, if every immigrant is an invader and should be kicked out, you were an immigrant here and we're glad you ceased "invading" our country. Yay for us!

I know the PERFECT way to get all of the invaders/immigrants out: convince them all that the US is broken beyond repair and that they will almost certainly be a victim of some of the rampant violence overtaking the country, just walking out the door of their home! They'll all be gone by the end of the year!

The truth of the matter is that EVERY American, save for native Americans, aka Indians, got here because someone immigrated here in the past (or even recently, for first generation immigrants). Both sides of my family "invaded" here in the early 1600s, settled in Virginia, started plantations, and became Americans by working and contributing to the nation. Should I leave? If so, where am I supposed to go? The US *is* the among the wealthiest countries in the world, and it is what it is because of the hard work of immigrant descendants. It has the culture it does because it has woven together the many cultures of the people who immigrated here over time, to the point that we even have our own unique accent to the English language.

duck_duck, really, it's time to grow up. Take some US history and civics classes in the US and find out how it really works. I can wave any flag I want in the street and can say pretty much anything I want while doing so because I have the freedom to have an opinion and to express it. The Founding Fathers of the United States were no idiots: they spent months and months writing and rewriting our Constitution and Bill of Rights based on solid history and a desire not to repeat the mistakes of the governing bodies of the lands from whence they came. We have the freedoms we do to ensure that we are not squashed under the thumbs of tyranny, as many of our ancestors were before coming here. It is worth noting, also, that nothing changes and improvement never occurs if those who would have the ideas to change it are discouraged or even outlawed from doing so. Those freedoms also allow us to know the real truth of what happens in our country, right down to crime stats (Freedom of Information Act), and gives our newspapers the right to print it (First Amendment), unlike China, which restricts internet access and limits the information its citizens get in order to keep people like you happy and believing that you are safe.

Someone else already said it, but if you want to make a change (and it's clear that you don't; you just want to play the armchair critic), get back over here and run for office, vote, and/or be an active voice in the ear of a legislator who *can* make a difference. Until then, and someone else already said this too, shut your piehole.

Oh wait! That happens so often that you see it as the norm.
Stupid duck for not knowing that before.

I am sorry that an American boy fucked you up the ass and then didn't call you the next day, but, honey, please try to get over it. I give you a dollar, ok? that make you happy, ok?

stupid cunt.

oh, and ali? jesus, you're a bitch. i want you to know, honey, that i don't take your boring bullshit posts seriously but I know when I've hit your sweet spot --it feels so good to fuck with you! :) it REALLY does!!!!!!!!

Duck, you have to understand that what you are hearing in the news is a misrepresentation of what is happening here. The US is a lot bigger than where you live so it is hard for all foreigners to understand how North America is different than most other countries.

she sleeps peacefully now, children......

her head will hurt in the morning. she will feel remorse....but defiance will prevent her from expressing it. and thus, the cycle will continue.

i promise you all, that if i ever meet bri in person, i will immediately put her across my lap and spank the fear of god into her.

I would pay hard earned money to see that!

Duck, I'm sorry you have been though so much in such a short time.'
I'm sorry you felt the need to take it out on us.
I'm sorry most of us did not see that was what was going on and did not just love you... myself included.
I do love you and hope you get centered soon.
