Today I became a daddy!

Radar • May 23, 2007 12:45 am
At 1:00 AM, my wife's water broke. At 4:52PM PST our daughter Nina Michelle Ireland was born.

At 38 years old, I've become a father.

...as they started to clean it off...I went over to my wife, kissed her gently on the lips, and said, "Darling, I love you very much... you just gave birth to a lizard."

~ Congrats ~

Radar • May 23, 2007 1:01 am
She was born with a full head of hair and her eyes wide open. That's more than I can say for a lot of people on this board. ;)

jester • May 23, 2007 10:01 am
Congratulations - may your days be filled with dirty diapers and your nights with baby bottles (unless she breast feeds):D
Radar • May 23, 2007 11:18 am
I spent the night in the hospital room. They even gave me my own bed. We took turns with the baby. She would feed the baby every 2 hours and I would let her barf on my shoulder.....oh I mean burp her. :)

Her head is more of a normal shape now and she's been cleaned up a lot. I'm being completely unbiased here when I say she's the most beautiful baby to ever be born in the history of the world. ;)

Seriously though. If you think about it, millions and millions of years of evolution have led up to this moment....to the moment of my child's birth. Man that was impressive until evolution led up to the birth of another child a second later somewhere else on earth.

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

I'll buy some fully automatic, unregistered, machine guns, shotguns, and sniper rifles now. Thanks for the advice. ;)

She get's cuter by the minute. We just had to clean her up. Her head is more of a normal shape now too.

I actually felt a prickle in my eyes re what you wrote about evolution coming to a point at the birth of your daughter.

My heartfelt congratulations.
May she twist you round her little finger from this day forward, and may you always be her hero (excepting a couple of teenage years when you are apparently a know-it-all old bastard)

And many good wishes to your beautiful SO (sorry, can't remember if you're married)
Trilby • May 23, 2007 5:50 pm
Post #25, first pic--man, oh MAN does that child look like her mommy right there!

Nice work, all 3 of you!
xoxoxoBruce • May 23, 2007 5:53 pm
You know she's going to be a rebellious teen and probably register Republican.
Seriously though, besh wishes to the whole family.

I know this is a given here, but just so you hear/read it... If you ever have ANY questions, please feel free to ask.
I went to all the classes, read several books, and was FULLY involved in EVERY aspect of my wife's pregnancy, my son's birth, her postpartum period, and as as involved now as I can be given my condition.
I'm sure you have everything under control, but sometimes it is good to get a "yeah, that happens" to cool the jets.
I know many others here have far more experience than I, as well and am sure that I am not speaking out of turn when I say that I'm sure they feel the same way.

You are a beautiful family.
Clodfobble • May 23, 2007 7:03 pm
Congratulations, Radar!

Now it all changes. All of it.

Urbane Guerrilla • May 24, 2007 12:47 am
Congratulations! How's Mrs. I doing?
Radar • May 24, 2007 1:26 am
My wife is ok. She couldn't take the pain and the pushing so she begged them to give her a C section....which they eventually did. She's at the hospital for 1 or 2 more days. She's been doing a great job of recovering.

I decided to sleep at home tonight rather than in the room with mommy & baby. I setup the crib and bedding, I cleaned the house, and got it ready for her arrival. Plus I'm sending photos and bragging about my beautiful baby all I can.

I'm going to be one of those dads with the 5 feet long string of photos that comes flying out of my wallet.
DanaC • May 24, 2007 2:49 pm
Heartfelt congratulations to you and your lady Radar. Keep posting pics :P
skysidhe • May 24, 2007 9:05 pm
There's nothing more precious than a baby! She's so beautiful and alert Radar!
Cloud • May 24, 2007 9:13 pm
I'm sorry the birth was hard on your wife. Did she consider an epidural?

Now you just wait until that baby gets a few months on her. She'll be babbling and giggling and cooing at you. That's the fun part!
Urbane Guerrilla • May 25, 2007 3:03 am
Careful that wallet doesn't make you sit funny! Bad for the back! Consider placing a slideshow of pics on your work computer.

My wife's name is Thien Thu which means "The Book of Heaven" in Vietnamese. But most Vietnamese people call her Hoa (Flower). She chose the American name "Tina" for her job. So today Tina and Nina come home from the hospital.

I've been sleeping at the hospital and getting to know my daughter. She's already got some funny things about her I've noticed. If I notice she's left me something in her diaper, and I wipe her little tushie, every time I wipe it, she thinks that's her cue to made poo poo for me again. She does it every time. It's gross, but cute.
