Thread starting challenge

Cloud • May 14, 2007 4:06 pm
Okay, Busters and Busterettes:

I CHALLENGE you to start a new thread--with the following conditions:

1) It must include a link to another web page or site.
2) You must state why this link is interesting to you, why you think it might be interesting to us, or a pertinent opinion.
3) You must provide the readership with a question regarding the link to elicit discussion.

It can be any forum, serious or funny. There's no reward or penalty for the challenge ('cause I can't really think of any), so if you don't want to--no skin. Just . . .

I DARE YA!
Kitsune • May 14, 2007 4:13 pm
You ask for too much! How the hell am I supposed to meet these demands? Not even this post meets any of the requirements! :p
Cloud • May 14, 2007 4:19 pm
Oh, I'm exempt, 'cause it was my idea (hee!). Besides, how do you know I haven't complied? 'Cause, you know--it would be a new thread.

Not all of us can be perfect, FoxyLady.* Just do the best you can.;)

*are you a girl kitsune? I thought they were all female, but I just realized I might be wrong (gasp!)

Nope -- common mistake. One I hope is only a problem in this medium.

I hope. :3_eyes:
Cloud • May 14, 2007 4:26 pm
my humble apologies, Sir Fox. I think all the kitsunes I've stumbled across have been female.

Sounds like good news to me!

I'm going to avoid starting any threads for now. I've had bad luck, lately.
Cloud • May 14, 2007 4:42 pm
well, depends on how you measure thread success. if you measure success by spirited discussions, stirring up controversy, and lots of heat, which I think lots of people do here, well then---

I consider my threads successful if they get a few answers, which don't include calling me stupid or asshole, or the equivalent.

Did you by chance see the smilie at end of post? Guess not. I've not called you any names. Yet! But :litebulb: I'll give it some thought, later
Cloud • May 14, 2007 6:20 pm
oh, no--that wasn't directed you, or at anyone in particular
Urbane Guerrilla • May 14, 2007 9:49 pm
Though it may start a fashion for calling Cellarites "equivalents."
busterb • May 14, 2007 11:27 pm
Okay, Busters and Busterettes:
Well if not at me I guess it was a scatter shot. Hit by collateral fire? Or perhaps friendly fire?
Cloud • May 14, 2007 11:35 pm
ooo, no, just a coincidental, generic-type "buster," Buster.

Cloud • May 14, 2007 11:41 pm
I'm so sorry you're not feeling well--would you like a cough drop, LJ? Here, I've got one in my purse (digs. digs some more). Okay, well . . . it's a little linty, but when you're sick, you're sick!

you know, the overwhelming number of pointless threads is one of the reasons i don't spend that much time here anymore. It just takes too much energy to wade through all the fluff to find something entertaining.

not that you care.

Is there a point to any thread? Other than ones asking for help, that is.

Not everyone is going to be interested in the same things, of course.

so, post something YOU care about -- maybe we'll care, too. This is a challenge, after all.
Sundae • May 15, 2007 4:03 pm
I think most members of this forum take part in this challenge every day they log on here. The days when they don't start a thread are the days on which they are happy to read and contribute, making them winners in my eyes.

Of course some people just start random "I want to tell you a detail of my life, so I'll start a thread hoping you'll reply" threads, but in general, whether there is a link or not, most Dwellars are trying to share something meaningful and start a discussion.

Speaking of details of lives, I really enjoyed all the videos you posted of your typical day in the life in Leicester. Any videos coming from the new neighborhood in London soon? When do you move?

Maybe it's just selective memory, but the Cellar seemed to have a good vibe in the Fall when everyone was posting videos.
Sundae • May 15, 2007 4:20 pm
I move in June, so there will be videos and photos from then on. Neatly contained in a single thread lest anyone think I'm being a hypocrite.

[drift] I took the cats down for a trial run 2 weekends ago - I hadn't realised how close I was to Greenwich Naval College and the Observatory. We walked there in less than 10 minutes and up to the date line. Looking out from the hill over the whole of London made me feel glad I was coming back to it. I can't post any photos or videos again until I move, as I don't have a PC I can download to until then. Get ready to know Greenwich ad nauseum once I move :)[/drift]

I notice not too many people are UP to the challenge. Virtual Viagra, anyone?

Shawnee123 • May 15, 2007 4:40 pm
I'm waiting for my approval rating to go up. It may be quite some time. :biglaugha
lumberjim • May 15, 2007 4:41 pm
I did.
LabRat • May 15, 2007 5:08 pm
I feel like the Cellar has lately tipped over the edge of a beautiful quilt of quality threads into a bit of a rats nest of random knots.

No new threads out of me.
Shawnee123 • May 15, 2007 5:11 pm
I started a thread about something I was interested in learning more about, gas/ethanol, and got some good responses. Nothing wrong with having fun and learning at the same time.
