How to be a true *insert religion*?

I was wondering his earlier and wanted to know what you guys thought about it.

What does it take to be considered a true Christian for example? Do you have to directly follow The Bible or can you just believe that Jesus is the son of God and is your savior? Christian can be replaced with any religion and then some of its following teachings.

I think the whole "you aren't a true _____" is generally opening a big can of worms. Personally, if someone calls themself a Christian, I won't argue.

My fiance is a Christian, though, and he says that for someone to be a Christian they must believe that Jesus is God.

You're not a True Christian™ unless you drink Ovaltine every day.

If someone calls themselves a true Christian, I immediately suspect they are not a good one.

When someone says they're a True Christian™ (LOL), they're basically saying there are others who aren't True Christians...which is judgemental...which isn't very Christian, from what I hear.

All we really have to go on are the words uttered by Christ himself. And even those are shaky because they have been translated and edited so many times.

My answer: you can't so just be true to yourself and whenever the idea forms in your head that somehow you have figured it out and need to make sure everyone else understands what they must do to enter heaven, take an iron skillet and slam it into your forehead as though the Lord himself put a cockroach between your eyes in a modern day Abraham test.

Best run-on sentence ever!

The classic: True Believer

I'm "officially" a Christian. However, organized religion is pure bullshit IMHO.

Faith is more important than religion (and a lot simpler).

I only know what a spiritual person is not. This one rule I have followed when exploring religions is that if a person says they have the answers and they have some special connection to god or the stars and you have to listen to them instead of your own good god given judgement is a phoney. A persons walk with god or self enlightenment is up to personal interpretation since I believe It's only our own hearts that condem us.

You must attend church services twice weekly.

You must brag about being a Christian at every opportunity.

You must be "holier than thou".

You must praise Jesus (not God) for everything good that happens. Conversely, you must blame all sinners for tragedies.

You must be judgmental and narrow-minded. And hate fags.

You must try to convert everyone you meet. Even strangers in Costco minding their own business and trying to buy a polish sausage and soda for $1.50 after the softball game.

You must believe in places where there are no more tears that have streets paved with gold and where people have wings... and in places where there is eternal fire and people are red and carry around pitchforks. But you believe the Tooth Fairy and Loch Ness monster are figments of one's imagination.
I'll stop now before I really piss someone off.

How to be a true ______?

Ask your God/dess/form. I can't tell you, even if I am a reasonably good Heathen.

Take the example of Abou ben Adham (may his tribe increase!), who woke one night from a deep dream of peace...
