to love Neil Diamond? OR Amy Winehouse?

Who are you embarrassed to admire?
Sheldonrs • May 7, 2007 6:15 pm
I like Barry Manilow but I'm not embarrassed about it. :D
Ibby • May 7, 2007 7:03 pm
Shitty 90's pop - Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Fastball, Harvey Danger...
bluecuracao • May 7, 2007 7:07 pm
I'm not ashamed that I like Billy Idol...usually.
Undertoad • May 7, 2007 7:15 pm
I like much Euro pop, in the finest Abba tradition.

And yet, I'm not gay.

Don't talk with your mouth full! hehehe

There aren't any artists that I am ashamed of liking, but I'm sure some people might think I'm a dag for doing so.
Pie • May 7, 2007 9:04 pm
Just saw Weird Al in concert (House of Blues, AC).
'Nuff.

Oh boy - the closet door swings wide today.

Here goes.... I like Karen Carpenter.

Every crush has a theme song and "Close to You" was the one for my second big childhood crush (5th grade). Karen Jackson, I think.

And while I'm narcing on myself, might as well finish meself off. Toss in some John Denver and yeah, I like Barry Manilow's Mandy. THat was a great crush theme song but I could NOT find anybody to get a crush on then so that one pretty much went to waste but I still liked it.

Let's see, I think that's about it. Oh, yeah - one more to cleanse my soul: The Cowsils (the one about The Flower Girl).
jinx • May 7, 2007 9:37 pm
I'm not embarrased to like Neil Diamond.
REO Speedwagon and Journey on the other hand...
Shawnee123 • May 8, 2007 8:54 am
I'm agreeing with Neil Diamond (what's better than Crunchy Granola Suite?) Abba, and Karen Carpenter. Karen had the voice of an angel.

I'd like to add Juice Newton. Break It To Me Gently and Angel of the Morning. Love 'em.
glatt • May 8, 2007 9:57 am
German 80s pop, like Nena.

Is It So Wrong..?
Absolutely not. No one should be ashamed of enjoying any music, from Bubble Gum to Gregorian Chants. Or not liking some music for that matter. I think half the music sold is because of peer pressure.... well before file sharing anyway.

Nope, no guilty pleasures in music.
Sperlock • May 9, 2007 10:28 pm
It's not wrong at all. Heck, I listen to Jpop - it's my happy music.
richlevy • May 9, 2007 10:47 pm
Bobby Darin.

Well the shark has.....

Should I mention that I occasionally sing this in the shower?
Elspode • May 10, 2007 12:20 am
I am embarassed to admit that there are about five rap "songs" that I have found to have redeeming qualities, either rhythmically or lyrically.

All rap songs have redeeming qualities. I think back to All in the Family. Sammy Davis Jr. guest stared, and Archie Bunker made the comment, "All colored people got rhythm". Rap music has dispelled that myth.

I don't get what's wrong with liking Amy Winehouse...? I think she's cool. Which means I'm worried now.

Anyway, I'm sitting down to enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest this weekend and I'm not ashamed of that at all.
DanaC • May 10, 2007 9:32 am
Amy Winehouse is very cool.

I really like the sixties singer Melanie.
jester • May 10, 2007 10:50 am

For a brief time I was at her record label, but her husband/manager is utterly insane and dishonest and controlling and we told them to take a hike.

They called us from Amsterdam on their latest Euro tour and told us that they would not pay for hundreds of CDs that were ruined by rain in shipping. We then found them selling same CDs to fans. They never paid for them. Goodbye.

He also insists on no photography by fans at all... possibly because Melanie is like 300 pounds now.
Trilby • May 10, 2007 11:47 am
"I got a brand new pair of roller skates, you got a brand new key" Melanie? Candles in the Rain Melanie?

OK. Amy Winehouse does f*cking rock (I covet her beehive and her eyemake-up; but what woman doesn't?)

Was just checking to see if you were payin' attention.
Trilby • May 10, 2007 11:49 am
If you doubt my Winehouse Love, check my above line--straight outta "Rehab"
Sundae • May 10, 2007 12:08 pm
Phew, I can go back to liking her without having to drop my voice furtively when I mention her name :)

I have also paid homage to La Winehouse on the Cat Got Your Tongue thread...
Rexmons • May 10, 2007 3:25 pm

"I got a brand new pair of roller skates, you got a brand new key" Melanie? Candles in the Rain Melanie?

That's the one. Though the songs I most like of hers are 'Left over wine' and 'look what they've done to my song'.

King • May 16, 2007 2:47 pm
There's nothing wrong with Amy Winehouse's music, but apparently you're not 'supposed' to find her attractive. Oh well.
