Has Shawnee had a temper tantrum?

Yes

Maybe you should start a poll.

And she's banned.

It's too bad, because I liked her. She was clearly asking for it though.

I wonder if she will regret it tomorrow.
Undertoad • Apr 26, 2007 3:01 pm
Well she has a temporary two day ban, so if she has second thoughts.
BigV • Apr 26, 2007 3:03 pm

I can't leave youse alone for ten minutes, and you're tearing up the place...

barefoot serpent • Apr 26, 2007 3:05 pm
sheesh!, did someone hijack Shawnees login?

maybe she just needs to go out to the range for awhile to shoot off some steam -- and a few smokeless rounds.
BigV • Apr 26, 2007 3:12 pm
fwiw, I remember several preceding posts from Shawnee123 that gave me the sense that work was going very badly. I think this is collateral damage. Damage yes, but not the root source of the problem. Two days may not be enough. [/freud]

Yo Big, you got some brown stuff on your nose. ;)

Maybe we should dispatch a group of people out to Ohio to get to the bottom of this...I'll go. Maybe she just needs a hug...or a shot of tequila.

Answer: No, wolf is not.

Question: Was Shawnee under the influence after having a really crappy time personally and/or professionally? Does she regualarly go off like this or has this taken most people a bit by surprise?

As someone who occasionally posts while intoxicated, I have posted things I really and truly didn't mean. (as well as loads of complete and utter drivel and responses in the wrong topics and even on the wrong boards....)

Let's not make it impossible for her to make amends and come back when her temporary ban is up, please? On a daily basis there are many, many posters who are more obnoxious than Shawnee and take it right up to the line of acceptability in an almost professional manner. Shawnee crossed well over the line in one (prolonged) incident, which suggests to me that there may be mitigating circumstances. Of course I'm not one who was called names, but I'm pretty sure I'd feel the same if I had been.

We all fuck up now and then, she's just getting a little "time out" if you will.

I am totally perplexed by Shawnee's behavior in the gun thread, but I also don't know about her personal life.

I think a temp ban is a perfect solution. Your grounded! No Cellar till you calm down and think about what you did!![/Labrat's mom]

She can appeal to the mods/owner for her posting rights back. Maybe appeal to us in one single post and we can have a vote...whatever.

Carry on.

No appeal needed. She can come back in two days, if she wants to. I hope the Shawnee we all know does come back in a couple days.

I'm hard as nails, me.

That and it's just words. I decided long ago that (to me) the intent is what matters and here I don't think the strength of the intent matches that suggested by the words. I'm shutting up now. I hope it was just a really crappy time for Shawnee, that she realises that the majority of us will forgive and forget all about it pretty quickly and would like to see her back, and that she owes an apology or two but that saying sorry will not make her a lesser person.
elSicomoro • Apr 26, 2007 5:01 pm
"You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

Shit happens...like I said, we all have our inglorious moments. But if she comes back and is back to her usual self, it'll probably be all good. Wolf and Zip aren't grudge-holders, either.

BuBy is not a word and could be taken to mean any number of things, mostly in an unpleasant name-calling context -especially if you are already feeling sensitive. I had to go back and read the context to realize you were not being insulting.

/I am going to shut up about it, honest.....

BuBy is from Saterday Nite Live , I beleve it was David Spade who I first heard say it , just a snarky way of saying Good By ,
she was being an ass and said she was going ,
I said good by ,
and she went ape shit and got her self banned ,
that is all .
It has been said more than once that you need a thick skin around here , I don't know what was going on in the real world for her , that is her PROBLEM, I don't meen to seem like an insinsative jerk , but well i guess i am , I tend to poke at folks that who are takeing them selfs too seriously so they will get over them selfs , just being me .

I really like Shawnee, she was a funny funny chick.

I don't think it was the subject matter, per se. It was the recurring nasty, insulting, degrading that seems to come from the pro-gunners on this board. If you disagree with them, you don't have a difference of opinion, you're stupid or foolish, or mentally ill. I think Shawnee just got fed up with it.

I don't think that is a one way street, nor are those reactions limited to gun debate, either. Go back through the forum and highlight any of the landmark threads -- this can be a nasty place.

I love it. :)

I often avoid a lot of threads in which I would otherwise post passionately. That's why my post count is so low. I can't afford to get worked up and post what I really think. I just don't have that many hours in a day.

I like Shawnee. I know she has a temper - she's admitted it herself - and she sometimes goes off like a bomb. But I like her honesty, her sense of humour, her heart and her ability to laugh at herself.

She does seem to be dealing with a lot in her personal life, and although people say you shouldn't bring that onto the board, we all post as real people, not as professional representatives. Given that she has recently posted about the extreme pressure in her job and also issues with her medication I for one am willing to assume that played a part in her outburst. After all, she doesn't regularly post on gun control.

I think Shawnee asked to be banned because she knew she'd lost it big time and wanted to burn her bridges so she wouldn't be tempted to come back - coming back would involve facing up to what she'd said and also seeing what other people said in return. However I think the one thing Shawnee has is courage and personal integrity, and even if she doesn't come back to post I think at least she'll read this thread so that she makes her decisions with her eyes open. I for one will welcome her back.

That said, I do not condone the insults. To bring herself down to the level of making comments about Wolf's appearance is something that disappointed me and Wolf deserves an apology. The rest was general if unpleasant name-calling, although it wasn't on a level I was comfortable with.

At least she chose the right three people - in that it will be water off a duck's back to the three specifically insulted. None of you (them) are likely to worry for a minute about Shawnee's opinion of you, whereas she probably stressed herself sick once she'd calmed down. That's me projecting of course, but I doubt she just shrugged it off.

It's sad this happened - perhaps another victim of the April effect? The month I mean (as previously mentioned) not the banned poster.
