Missing posts

elSicomoro • Apr 8, 2007 9:48 am
Hey...did a couple of threads get deleted or something? Or did something happen with the board? I just happened to look at the number of posts I have, and it seems to be about 20-40 posts lower than I remember.
Undertoad • Apr 8, 2007 10:12 am
Not that I know of!
Clodfobble • Apr 9, 2007 3:03 pm
Huh. I would swear Bruce had broken 20,000, but now he's back down to 19,448. I think maybe syc's right.

*stabs one of dana's posts in the eye with a pencil*

you will get me naked pictures of Betty White if I demand them. I'm no amature here, flatfoot.

Now... Here's what I want to start out:

1. You must cut down the tallest tree in the forest with...... a herring.
2. A shrubbery!
3. I'll tell you after i get the first two.
DanaC • Apr 10, 2007 10:03 am
2. A Shrubbery! *snickers*
elSicomoro • Apr 10, 2007 11:06 am
What about taking down two medium-sized trees with a guppy?

elSicomoro • Apr 10, 2007 12:59 pm
So many to choose from...after all, each post I make is automatically one of the greatest in Cellar history.

Oh, absolutely! And I refuse to raise my standard no matter what any of you say!

I can't find the DoDads thread. That could pump Bruce's postcount down quite a bit.
Elspode • Apr 11, 2007 11:02 pm
The FBI was on the way to investigate the threadnapping, but they all shot each other when they heard an old Studebaker backfiring down the street from LJ's.

I can't find it either. It's gone.
Undertoad • Apr 12, 2007 9:15 am
According to the Moderator Log, xoB spent two hours on April 8th, deleting the DoDads thread as well as all of his entries in the WTF thread, and all show yourself threads. He has not been here since the 9th. :( Hope nothing's wrong.
glatt • Apr 12, 2007 9:26 am
Wow. He wasn't acting like himself lately and got called on it by a couple people. Hope he's OK.
glatt • Apr 12, 2007 10:22 am
I'm not sure how to say this.

I like Bruce. I really hope he's OK, but the more I think about this, the more annoyed I am by it.

I posted one or two dodads in that thread he started, and now my posts are gone. Many people considered that to be "his" thread (myself included) but he invited others to post dodads on several occasions. It wasn't his place to delete the whole thread. Most people here had posts in it.

In the show yourself thread, the whole discussion about his driver's license picture now makes no sense since there's no trace of his participation.

I'm a little concerned that he might come back and start deleting more posts. I consider his actions to be an abuse of his moderator powers, and I think we (or UT) should consider taking those powers from him. Are there backups of the Cellar in case more stuff is deleted? Can it be restored?

I hope he comes back. He's a pillar here. But he was wrong to delete posts.
LabRat • Apr 12, 2007 12:14 pm
Hmmm. I have been crazy busy at work, and only hitting the high notes around here, so i haven't been abe to keep up with everyone's posts, especially regarding their lives.

That being said, now thinking about it, I haven't seen as much of Bruce around here either, but in general I guess I figure Cellarites come and go more or less frequently depending on what's going on in their lives.

I too hope everything is OK, but I must say that deleting whole threads that included other's input without prior discussion or warning is quite out of character from what I know of him.

Hopefully whatever is keeping him away and acting weird will work itself out sooner rather than later and we'll get our Brucie back.:sniff:
LabRat • Apr 12, 2007 12:23 pm
Huh.

I was just looking up some people's info about their last activitty under "Members List" and some, including Brianna and Bruce, say N/A.

Wussup with that? Just curious.
glatt • Apr 12, 2007 12:30 pm
If I recall correctly, I think when we all joined up, there was an option for a stealth mode for increased privacy. But you have to opt into it, and the instructions suggest there is little point.
BigV • Apr 12, 2007 12:32 pm
If you enable this checkbox, found in your User Control Panel, one result is that the last visited time is displayed as N/A. Check mine, as I have recently enabled this attribute.

edit -- once again, I post the same answer, later, and with 2x more words than the faster person who described it more succinctly and more quickly. I should be taking notes for that next life...

So Bruce used his expanded mod privilege to do something a regular user cannot do (delete an old thread)? And he erased part of the Cellar history in the process? Bruce could have deleted all the pics he posted in any thread - any user can do that. But he destroyed an entire thread and didn't ask (UT) first or make it known afterwards?

As a user of this fine establishment, I would like management to make a note of my extreme objection to that in my permanent record.

I further move that he be removed as a mod immediately and that a special election be held to fill the vacancy.
DanaC • Apr 12, 2007 2:11 pm
he seemed very out of sorts the last few weeks. I wonder if he's got really hacked off and left the Cellar? I hope not.

I second the motion.
DanaC • Apr 12, 2007 2:13 pm
I agree.
Undertoad • Apr 12, 2007 2:14 pm
Hmmm . . . based on what he erased, I'm going to guess that he has an extremely personal reason to do this, which if he contacted me I might take care of in similar fashion. (I have deleted specific stuff for people when it put them at odds with family, employer, and/or risk of cyber-stalking.)
Happy Monkey • Apr 12, 2007 2:30 pm
Any chance of restoring non-Bruce posts in DoDads?
Undertoad • Apr 12, 2007 3:35 pm
Possible. (But possibly quite tedious.)

elSicomoro • Apr 12, 2007 3:54 pm
UT is insane, but his secret is safe with us.

Bruce can certainly be cantankerous and pig-headed, but his recent behavior is rather alarming. When I e-mailed him last week to see if he would be coming out to my wedding in October, his response was rather flippant. I'm personally concerned more than mad. I guess we'll see how this unfolds, if it does.
DanaC • Apr 12, 2007 6:13 pm
Hope he's ok.
DucksNuts • Apr 12, 2007 7:57 pm
I reckon cut Bruce some slack too, UT seems to have hit the nail on the head....the contents he deleted are very personal.

Although it seems OTT to delete a whole thread, it could of been a bit of a knee jerk reaction to whatever is going on, but I'm thinking there would be a reason.

I've missed a bit lately...so if Bruce was acting out of character...I missed it.

Hoping things are OK.
wolf • Apr 13, 2007 12:07 am
WTF?
lumberjim • Apr 13, 2007 12:26 am
yeah. doesn't make much sense.

the thing that strikes me is that ...once you pull an exit like this...then what? how do you come back after you cool off? It seems rather permanent. I mean......you'd want to save face somehow......but, how? claim that it wasn't an exit at all, but a vacation?

the other thing is that...if he is all pissed off at the cellar as a whole.....pissed enough to bugger off like this.....why wouldn't he ever mention it......or try to combat it?

I can see refraining from posting for a time.....taking a leave....whatever. I can see (although i always disagree with) making a big production out of leaving because of some affront you've suffered.....

but to do something as irrevocable as deleting that large a chunk of communally created thread, and ducking out with no mention of what precipitated it....?

WTF is right, wolf.
Clodfobble • Apr 13, 2007 8:31 am
Seems pretty clear to me that it had something to do with his spat with rkzenrage over the pictures/videos in one of the many religion threads. Wish I could find which one it was but I can't. Realistically he was complaining about them because they were annoying (i.e. the thread bombs aren't funny and there are only so many anti-church YouTube videos you can watch before it gets boring) but he couched it at one point in terms of wasting bandwidth. I'm totally conjecturing here, but someone may have pointed out that his Dodads thread had more pictures than anywhere else on the site so bandwidth accusations were slightly bogus. I think he probably didn't leave because he was angry, I think he just deleted all his pictures because he was angry, and is now just taking some time to cool off. I really hope that whatever's going on--on the Cellar or in real life--he feels better and comes back soon.
Undertoad • Apr 13, 2007 8:46 am
He's sent me a cryptic email which sort of explains it. It's more along the lines of the intensely personal employer/family-related sort of thing, and less along the lines of he got mad at us and took his football etc. I recommend not speculating, and I think he will return.

Yeah. Sounds like a sticky situ.

Maybe we've been a tad hasty in calling for his removal as moderator. If he wants to continue, I vote we maintain the status quo.
glatt • Apr 13, 2007 11:56 am
I like Bruce. I hope he's OK, and I hope he comes back soon. I welcome his return. He's Bruce, for crying out loud.

But he did abuse his moderator powers, and until I hear a compelling reason from him for his actions, I'm not happy about it. I didn't vote for him so he could delete one of the largest threads in the Cellar. I'm sure he had his reasons, but there had to be a better way.

I feel the same. But out of consideration for the value of his presence here its only fair and reasonable to give him an opportunity to explain things. It is remotely possible, for instance, that it wasn't him.

No ones, but me, knows what happened. UT is the only other person and he only has a rough idea. Unfortunately for you,(fortunately for me) I'll never be able to tell you what happened. Maybe UT will fill you in when I die.

rkzenrage? Oh pul-eeese.

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. I didn't realize that deleting my posts would kill the dodads thread, entirely. Evidently deleting the first post will do that.

If you're pissed off and don't want me to be a moderator, I'm cool with that.

Sycamore asked if I would come to his wedding in St Louis to which I replied, "No way". I guess he'd rather I jerked him around for 6 months then tell him I wouldn't make it. Go figure.

Hope you are OK! You're a good egg.

See, that's what happens when you can't log on regularly (me I mean).
You read with an open mouth for 5 pages that Bruce has gone and taken his posts (and other people's) with him, and then by the end he's back, the post deletion was a mistake and all is well.

I don't know whether to be pleased that it's not the disaster I thought it was, or peeved that I'll never get that 5 minutes back.

Glad you're back Bruce - I hope that whatever the problem was you have come through it as unscathed as possible and that it hasn't hurt anyone you care about. I think you're one of the Dwellars that makes this place worth logging onto, and it would be a poorer place without you.
