Absolutely gorgeous - worthy of framing
I also love the utilitarian title - you kept the beauty for the actual photos :)
Clodfobble • Mar 29, 2007 8:59 am
I'd like to see a picture of a person swimming in that many baby humans...
elSicomoro • Mar 29, 2007 9:00 am
I smell a photoshop coming. Too bad Ike Is My Cat doesn't post anymore...his photoshops were legendary.
TheMercenary • Mar 29, 2007 9:23 am
Our place is swamped in tree frogs. This is evidence of thier passing in the morning.
Image
jinx • Mar 30, 2007 10:26 am
That's really cool Merc. Do you have any pics of the frogs themselves?
Sundae • Mar 30, 2007 10:28 am
Wow - I only got a red cross last time, glad I've seen the picture.

Frog Army Knife?
TheMercenary • Mar 30, 2007 1:12 pm
I will try to post some pics after work on Sunday. All of them are green and brown about the size of a half-dollar coin, slimey. At night the sound is so loud you almost can't hear yourself talk.
Flint • Mar 30, 2007 1:16 pm
I grew up next to a creek. I love that sound, of noisy things that live in wet places.
jinx • Mar 30, 2007 1:21 pm
I took video also, when I took these pics, just for the sound. Jim is still trying to get it off the camera though - might not happen. :(
Flint • Mar 30, 2007 1:23 pm
When I was growing up, the creek would be filled with little frog eggs. Now, I never see them. What happened to my frogs?
glatt • Mar 30, 2007 1:37 pm
Maybe acid rain.

When I was a kid, we had a creek in our back yard too. No frogs for some reason, but toads. We used to catch the eggs and watch the polliwogs hatch. On time, one of my dad's students was over visiting. He was a wealthy Iranian with ties to the Shah, who was in power then. Anyway, he wore expensive clothes. Nice guy. Very friendly. I had caught a bunch of polliwogs in the cooler we kept on our back steps for the milk delivery, and was carrying it over to him to show him. Somehow I tripped or something, and I dumped most of this cooler full of scummy water and toad eggs and polliwogs all over his pants and expensive shoes. That was the only time I ever saw him mad, but he soon recovered. And was nice again. He heads an oil exploration company now.

Frogs all over the world are dieing off in huge numbers. Of course both the greenies and the global warmers were all over it, and very disappointed to find it was a virus.

jinx • May 7, 2007 1:37 pm
Thanks glatt, I definitely plan to... as long as the tads keep cooperating.
jinx • May 8, 2007 5:31 pm
If you look in the muck here where I'm looking you can see white globs. Anyone know what these are?

Image

I was checking out the clear globs, that I at first thought were the old tadpole eggs, but on closer inspection realized that some still have something growing inside: Spotted Salamanders.

Image

zoomed in
Image

Some have hatched but I couldn't find them

Another shot of me trying not to get me ass wet...

They are fantastic, Jinx.

Kinda spoiled the illusion for me though, here I thought you had trekked out to a isolated little pond....and then I see civilisation in the background.
jinx • May 9, 2007 11:03 am
Aw, sorry ducks, lol.... it's just a puddle, not remote pond.
Normally we do trek around for miles when we're there (French Creek), but we hadn't planned on being there at all yesterday.
Griff • May 9, 2007 11:05 am
You do realize you're on the hook for the full life-cycle of these guys now?
jinx • May 9, 2007 11:14 am
That's the plan... it's a home school project for the boy. He got it in his head yesterday that they might have sprouted legs and scarfered, so we had to stop by and make sure there weren't any significant changes since Saturday.
Griff • May 9, 2007 11:20 am
How awesome a Mom are you?:)

How delightful!!

Home School? No more Upatinas? How's it going?

/could never do it, would kill offspring and eat them
jinx • Jun 14, 2007 10:03 pm
The tadpoles are harder to find now and much more skittish. Still no friggin legs though...

Image

But some people might remember the tiny toads I posted in the close ups thread last spring... Here are a few of this years crop. They are so cute.

And here's a tadpole hunter...

DucksNuts • Jun 14, 2007 10:09 pm
They are really cute, jinx.

Can you take some pics of the area where this magical pond is please?
jinx • Jun 14, 2007 10:41 pm
I already did :D.

We find the toads about a mile down the trail past this lake - the smaller of the 2 at the park here.

The tadpoles are over by the other lake. I"ll take pics of the area next time we're there.

I like the world reflected in your ring.

And jungle boy.
xoxoxoBruce • Jun 14, 2007 10:54 pm
Since the tadpoles are getting tougher to photograph, maybe you should capture a couple and keep them in a fishbowl for backup. You can always let them go when they get their legs.
DucksNuts • Jun 14, 2007 10:55 pm
Great minds :D

When the kids figure that out on their own I'll probably help them, but I have a thing about animals in cages... I don't know, it just really bothers me.
jester • Jun 15, 2007 12:12 pm
we have a small fish pond and every year we get a few frogs and craw dads. only have a picture of the frog though.

That's disgusting, they're acting like, like people.
Why it's the Bada Bing, in daylight.
LabRat • Mar 19, 2009 10:52 am
Awesome pictures, jinx! The polarizing filter makes a world of difference. The ones caught mid croak are my favorite. Nice work with the trigger finger! :) The sound on the video adds so much more, too.

thanks jinx!

How many frogs can you find in that picture, limey?

That's like Where's Waldo? of the frog world.

P.S. What happened to the pictures in posts #61 and 63? I guess they didn't pass the censors.
jinx • Mar 19, 2009 9:00 pm
Thanks you guys, I was really happy with the pics... we were there at the perfect time to get the good action.

I don't know what happened to the pics HLJ, they're still in my album, haven't been moved or deleted...

Here's 2 of them.

Them frogs sound like ducks!
Womderful pics and video as ever Jinx. Keep us updated - I never fail to be fascinated by your photography.

BTW, Mr Frog at least takes him time, unlike cats for example.
But he sure leaves a lot of spoodge behind!

GREAT pics! so crystal clear baby!

MOAR!

Helps that a Dr Who episode was based on ELO songs of course...
And had Peter Kay in it.
And M Tennant.

My goodness, a feast for the eyes.
