Just saw.....

300! WOW!
Awesome movie. Great cinematography, amazing action, cool special effects and brutal gore. Yeah, the storyline sucks, but whatever, it's only a movie to show how far the action genre has come. Go watch it now!
SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAA
piercehawkeye45 • Mar 18, 2007 2:45 pm
Hopefully I will see it today but I have a feeling my plans will fall through.
Trilby • Mar 18, 2007 4:10 pm
my kid saw it today. I'll let you know how many "awesomes" he gives it.
wolf • Mar 18, 2007 4:14 pm
I want to see this as well. I am all geared up for it as the History Channel ran two specials on the 300 Spartans last night.

Μολὼν Λαβέ!

I am really lookin forward to this one!
freshnesschronic • Mar 18, 2007 7:45 pm
It's actually pretty historically accurate. Like the phalanx tactic and the expansion and incorporation of the Persian army, like how they used the conquered nations technology and innovation to enhance their culture and military.

But the Spartans were heavily armored, which the movie puts them in only little brown diapers. Only the gods would fight in the buff, ya know.
elSicomoro • Mar 18, 2007 11:22 pm
I figured every red-blooded conservative would have seen that movie 3 times already, given how much it has apparently pissed off the Iranians. ;)
freshnesschronic • Mar 19, 2007 12:05 am
Yeah, Persians actually weren't black mostly. I mean they had black slaves of course, like slaves were of all races but the Persians themselves weren't "black". Weird.
Beestie • Mar 19, 2007 1:01 am
Two thumbs up. Saw it last night.
piercehawkeye45 • Mar 19, 2007 1:28 am
I saw it and I will have to say that the Spartans are badasses.

I didn't see any propaganda but if you look for it I'm sure you will find it.

The main plots were most likely historically accurate but the events weren't. For example...

Spoilers: Highlight to read
The king of sparta wasn't actually the last person to die. The Immortals didn't look like that. They didn't push the messengers into the well. Others events like that...
nappyboy2003 • Mar 19, 2007 3:24 am
Yea 300 was a great movie it is as good as other people say it was, but wasn't as bloody as some people say it was and I thought the Leonidas character showed great intensity during the film.

" This is not madness This is SPARTA!!!":bong:

Naw...that was the Trojans.

Well they were half naked anyways...
freshnesschronic • Mar 19, 2007 2:01 pm
No peoples fought in the nude, that is just ridiculous. I mean, c'mon, you would be so freakin' vulnerable, you have no protection to anything! 300 was just to show the off the glorious Spartans but they fought in full bronze and iron for sure.

Yeah, okay, but some peoples did compete nude during the Olympics.

I think those were the Britons. Or the Celts. Or the Picts. One of the folks that had the woad, anyway.

I wouldn't want that cut off by accident.

Olympics and battle are different. One doesn't involve objects that can sever a penis.

Always about the penis, isn't it?

Ouch, I doubt that is common occurance though. It would have to be a damn good shot too. You almost can't get mad with a shot like that.

Yes. Very important topic.

Personally, I would like my penis not cut off in war. I don't think you would be too happy if your boyfriend's or husband's got cut off either.
Perry Winkle • Mar 19, 2007 5:19 pm
Some groups in Celtic warbands fought nude. Men and women, both.

We (cultural connection not recent activity) did reportedly sport blue paint though.

One of the wonderful things about pagan festivals is that there is ALWAYS some pasty-pale white accountant or computer programmer who paints his face and body up with woad and goes crashing about the woodlands in various stages of undress for several days.

When it's time to return to the regular world a terrible realization dawns.

Woad is a very effective sunscreen.

Wouldn't that be very painful? Imagine having your, well, you know what, chopped off in the middle of a battle. Ouch.

Fortunately, the Celts evolved to protect against that...

Hmmmmmmm....so this evolutionary mutation is seen in the peoples who inhabit ancient Gaul? (France, Belgium, northeast Spain).

I assumed Griff was saying the Celts evolved cocks as hard as iron :)

Or they shrunk to give a smaller target. ;)

He was saying the Celts were so manly that swords would bounce off their mighty cocks.

This is my assumption remember :)

Spiderman 3.
Wow. Whoever wrote that script had no idea how to progress the plot.
And this is some of the worst acting in a supposedly blockbuster movie. Tobey McGuire mostly. Can you believe this guy is making money to act? Sheesh. But the fighting scenese are great, probably the best fighting in the 3 movies.

Anyway this movie confused me. Was it a romance, drama, fighting/action? Who knows.

Go see it though. Although it's overhyped.

The more villains a movie has, the worse it is. How many are in this one? Three?

But this movie had numerous villains:
Maybe zombies are like a collective villain (50 zombies = 1 villain)? (How the heck do I make the second sentence appear after the posted picture?)

Pirates 3!!!
Woa, it was like high school, so much drama, so much talk. Good end finale though, but there was so much criss crossing, back stabbing and random pirate rules dictating the movie that I'm going to have to google the FAQ later on tonight. But it was a good movie, I guess.
freshnesschronic • May 27, 2007 2:59 am
And on my PC tonite... The Last King of Scotland. Holy crap what an amazing movie. Forest Whitaker is sensational. To be the Scotsman Garrigan's position would have to be one of the scariest things ever.
